I love, love , love the Keys! It is a blessing to be able to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life at home and come down to the Keys and totally relax! The sunshine, palm trees and turquoise water are so beautiful and calming.
The Owner purchased this house in 2001
My late husband, Gary and I fell in love with Key West. We felt quite comfortable in this area having grown up on the water on Cape Cod. We bought the home as a 'someday' retirement home but sadly my husband passed away in 2002. I was left to run our Electrical Business and put two daughters through college therefore, I have not been able to get down to the Keys as often as I would like to. To help pay for expenses, I have opened up my home to others on occasion for them to enjoy life in the Keys.
Relaxing, fishing, boating, swimming and the beautiful tropical feeling of the property is what I enjoy when I am at my home. I love being able to hop in our boat to go for a ride to Mallory Square or fishing on the reefs. I love living in a quiet neighborhood but only a few minutes drive to the excitement of downtown Key West. I guess you could say that it is the best of both worlds!
Thank you for once again letting us rent your beautiful home in Key Haven. We had a wonderful time,(even though Sandy brought us a bunch of wind). The boat rode the wind beautifully in your canal. We only went out into the bay side due to the 20kt+ winds everyday- so no fishing to report. Did see some beautiful fish in the canal as well as a bunch of lobster in the rocks by the house on the inlet. Peering up into the mangroves was really neat - there were tons of Mangrove Snapper and Barracuda up in there. Really neat stuff.
Thanks again and have a wonderful Holiday Season,
My family and I throughly enjoyed our stay at the beautiful Alize home! This was by far one of the nicest VRBO rentals that we have had the pleasure of staying at.
We loved everything about the home! The fully stocked kitchen was so organized and clean, which made preparing meals a pleasure! The entire house was neat and clean and felt like home! The beds super comfortable, and the washer & dryer made it very convenient to keep up with laundry and towels each day.
My kids enjoyed swimming, and fishing off of the dock, as well as a day of golf nearby. We rented 2 kayaks one day and took turns paddling out to the open water. We even managed to catch a couple of lobsters in the canal!
We also enjoyed a few day trips to Key West and Hemingway House, as well as a day of snorkling in Looe Key. The home is conveniently located just north of Key West, and while we really enjoyed being downtown, were happy to return to the peace and quiet of the house at the end of the day. The home is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, which added to relaxing, peaceful evenings on the back porch enjoying the breeze, and star gazing!
We will definitely plan to rent this property again in the future and highly recommend it!
This is a truly exceptional vacation home. We stayed for a week over New Year, there were 5 of us altogether. The home is exceptionally well maintained and well equipped. It was spotlessly clean on arrival. There are lots of places to sit and lounge, inside and outside, in the shade or in the sunshine, with outdoor furniture and sun loungers to use. The neighbourhood is very quiet, and the view from the rear verandah overlooks the canal (as main photo). We were extremely pleased with this choice and I wouldn't hesitate to go again. If we travel to Key West again in the future, this will be our first choice. Booking dialogue with the owner was prompt, friendly and reliable (even though it was complicated because I am in the UK and paying in £). The property is about 4-5 miles from downtown Key West, so a car is necessary.
We stayed 8 nights at Alize's beautiful house and grounds. We chose this location because it was a 20 minute drive from Duval Street and it had a boat dock. Let me start by saying that everything relating to the house was great and Sandy was super helpful and flexible with regards to scheduling. While plenty of other reviewers have gone into detail about the house itself, I will spend a little time discussing the boating situation. The dock, fishing area, shed with some nets, and bait freezer provided with the house are exactly what anyone with a boat would want. Perfect, in fact. However, people thinking of bringing a boat to the house should take into account a few things first.
1) Let's start with finding a rental. We rented a 25' cat but we had a very tough time finding a company that would let us keep the boat at the house. We tried about 20 places (even with referrals) in Key West and just could not find any; they either were day rentals or required docking at a certified marina every night. Docking ran around $100/night. We decided to look to other keys and finally found one in Summerland Key, which was 20 miles away. It would probably be better if you had your own boat, as there is a slip right next to the bridge east of Boca Chica Channel. But if you have to rent, be prepared to spend time searching and for travel to get the boat there.
2) Getting in and out is VERY tricky due to the shallow areas. This is probably one of the reasons why boat rentals wanted boats returned to marinas. Expect to spend time getting used to maps and keeping a close eye on the tides, as there aren’t any buoys guiding you to the house and some areas are too shallow at mean low tide. The best approach from the house was to do a large sweeping turn out of the canal to the middle of the bridge. Do NOT cut the corner out of the canal. Once under the bridge, hug the bridge and head east until you are longitudinally aligned with the buoys leading to Murray’s Marina, which are due south. Head south and then follow the buoys out to sea. Most of the other boats flew under the bridge on plane, but we were much more cautious as we saw many different submerged hazards, such as bikes and even a scooter, that would have taken out our props. After a couple of times, we were finally able to relax and it took us about 30 minutes to get from the house to the ocean.
We stayed at the home for 9 nights to celebrate Christmas in the Keys! Beautiful home on an immaculately landscaped lot. The neighborhood is quiet, and access to KW is easy.
My wife, son and I loved being here and would definitely stay here again. Thank you Sandy!
This is our fourth stay and we are very pleased!! Both Sandy and vrbo are GREAT to work with and as a former home owner at Big Pine you can't find a better home or location than this. Thanks again for a wonderful two weeks.
I spent a month in this great house and wish I had stayed longer. The location is quiet and peaceful, but only minutes away from the entertainment that is Duval Street. Anything I needed was within a short drive. The house is well maintained and nicely landscaped. Being on the canal was an added bonus. I had four weeks of perfect weather and my two brothers, escaping from New England snow, could not have been more content.
Key Haven neighborhood is the wonderful location for a truly fantastic vacation in Key West. We are removed from the hustle bustle of downtown but just a short 5-10 minute drive to Duval Street- THE place to shop, drink and people watch! Hurricane Hole is just 2 miles down the road where you can eat, drink, rent a boat or charter, kyak, paddleboard or jet skis. Smather's Beach is a beautiful and very clean beach with water sport rentals and lounge chairs. We very much enjoy boating, fishing and just love traveling around on the blue waters of Key West. We never know what we will see- dolphins, turtles, sea rays - it's always an adventure! Every year we have tried to add or improve something around the house to make it more accommodating for our guests. We now have an outside freezer to store your ice and bait. A fish cutting station with a fresh water hose. Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square is a must see! We enjoy going down about 1 1/2 hr before sunset to get a table on Sunset Pier for cocktails, apps and music. Some of our favorite restaurants are: Hogfish Bar & Grill is close by, Breakfast at Blue Heaven (I heard their dinners were great too), El Sibonney (Cuban Food), B.O's Fish Wagon for best fish sandwich on the island- then we walk the Waterfront boardwalk- beautiful!, Conch Republic, La Trattoria, Amrosia for sushi, Better than Sex desserts, Rooftop Cafe, Croissants de France, Fogarty's to people watch- to name a few. The Square Grouper which is about a 20 minute ride up the Keys. There are so many fantastic places to eat in Key West!
Take a ferry to the beautiful Dry Tortugas for a day of snorkeling. My daughter got me to try para sailing with her. Once we got up there I was amazed at how calm and beautiful the view was!
