Overview

Hawaii House Rental Photos and Description

Ohana with 1 Bath (Sleeps 2 - 4) and private lanai in the middle of a rainforest

Why stay in a stuffy old hotel at $100, $150 or even more per night when you can have this beautiful Ohana on 3-acres in the highly desirable neighborhood of Leilani Estates subdivision with paved roads? (It may seem weird that I mention that it has paved roads but believe it or not there are numerous subdivisions that do not have paved roads in Hawaii.)

There is a 528 square foot carport to park your rental car out of the beautiful and wonderful sunshine!! The house sits on a 2 acre lot with empty acre lots to either side. That's right, you are on 2 acres and surrounded by a rain forest! At night you can here the song of the coqui frogs. The home is situated at the back of the property and can not be seen from the road.

I will provide you with precise directions to the nearest activities such as beaches, snorkeling, lava viewing, Volcano National Park, and nearest shopping centers. The home is 5.9 miles from the nearest beach and less than 10 miles from the world famous Wai’opae Tide Pools. Come see the world's MOST ACTIVE VOLCANO!! There is a caretaker on-site for your convenience.

It is just a few minutes drive to the quaint town of Pahoa where you can find just about anything you need and only about a 10-minute drive to the coastline for ocean activities. The nearest beach is only 5.9 miles from the house and it is less than 10 miles to the world famous Wai’opae Tide Pools. Other nearby attractions include the Hot Ponds, Green Lake, The Kalapana Lava Flow and Lava Tree State Park. It is about a 30 minute drive to Hilo.

This property is located on the Island of Hawaii, also known as da 'Big Island'. There are ample tourist activities on the island that include Hiking, Volcano National Park (where you can hike the ever changing Volcano), Scuba Diving, Snorkeling, Tours, Sailing, and many , many more just to name a few.

Come and witness the world's most active volcano!! I am more than happy to answer any questions that you have regarding this property or any island activities. I will give you my opinions on different activities or activity providers if you ask.

The property has its own private pineapple patch and numerous other fruits including banana, lychee, avocado, papaya, lime, orange and tangelo trees.

Guestbook comments from the owner

If you want to experience to real, unspoiled Hawai'i, this is the place for you. It is remarkably reasonably priced, given it is a brilliantly appointed & equipped place, deep in rural Puna. Sitting out at night on the lanai with the velvet Hawaiian January night surrounding you, you could be miles from anywhere. No street lights to obscure the stars, no traffic noise & yet, it is close by local shops & places to dine out, if you do not feel like cooking. There are farmers markets to buy fresh fruit, bars to get a local beer or Mai Thai & the local supermarkets are nearby. The owners live on site & know the area well & are happy to point you in the right direction for whatever you fancy doing during your break.

In all, a great escape and just so relaxing. The omly point I would make, be sure to rent a car so you are able to get around easily & experience the Big Island fully.

Lovely ohana

  • 5 of 5

Nice ohana in the middle of the jungle. Birds by day and frogs by night. It's a comfy space; clean, well appointed and private. Heath and family are super friendly and knowledgeable about the area but also don't pry and give you plenty of space to do your own thing. Pleased they had a bike as one of my favorite past times was riding around the neighborhood. I was super bummed I had to leave but hopefully I'll be back soon. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in Pahoa.

Friendly and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

My 19 year old son and I spent much of our time commuting to Hilo, but it was nice to settle in after long days to unwind with a hot shower and very comfortable bed. The Ohana was very clean and well kept. My son's only regret was that Heath's ample orchard was not ready for harvesting. We had an enjoyable stay and Heath was an excellent host.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

I recently spent two weeks at this rental while I visited my daughter. The Ohana is super-clean, well-furnished, comes equipped with all you'll need (brand new grill!), and--best of all--has kind and responsive owners. Heath was great at providing all requested information and never intruded on my privacy.

The Ohana's location is ideal for exploring the Puna district and beyond. You're a very easy drive to tidepools, ponds warmed by Pele herself, jagged lava fields, and the colorful quirkiness that is Pahoa. I also made day trips to the green sand beach in South Kona, Kilauea (Hawaii Volcanoes National Park), Hilo, the Hamakua coast, and beyond. Don't miss the Wednesday night market out at Uncle Robert's in Kalapana, or the Sunday farmers market outside of Pahoa.

I loved my time at the Ohana. I now can't imagine staying anyplace else. Thanks, Heath!

A great little base for The Big island

  • 5 of 5

I spent a lovely month exploring the Big Island while working at this Ohana outside Pahoa.

The apartment is small but comfortable and has all the amenities you'll need. The kitchen is supplied with all the cutlery, crockery and utensils including a coffee machine. The fridge/freezer is large so you can stock up at Walmart or Safeway (about 40 minutes drive away).

Heath will send you a useful and comprehensive info document which includes a suggested pre-arrival shopping list, tourist info with directions etc.

Power is stable and works 24/7. Wifi is fast and reliable. The cable TV has a wide range of channels, just like on the mainland.

Heath and Denise were great hosts. Always available with help, advice or just conversation. While everything worked well during my stay I felt assured that Heath would be available if anything was required.

Each day I opened up the double doors onto a garden view, often with birds feeding on the lawn. Watch out for the occasional mongoose sneaking around.

Pahoa town with various restaurants etc is about 10 minutes away. Volcanoes NP is less than an hour away.

I have no hesitation in recommending as a place to stay for a couple or solo travellers.

Great hosts and a clean and comfortable cottage!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in September and we really enjoyed the cottage. It was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. Heath was a great host! He provided lots of helpful information about what to see and do on the island. The location was great. We would highly recommend this rental property!
