Great vacation rental in best Saugatuck location! One of just a few private homes on the Oval Beach Road, this classic hundred-year-old cottage with guest house is nestled into the side of a wooded sand dune. In a great location surrounded by woods and walking trails, Oval Beach Cottage is steps from the Kalamazoo River, Saugatuck's chain ferry, and a 1/2 mile down the road from the beautiful Oval Beach.
Spread out over three floors, there are four bedrooms and 2.5 baths in the main house. A fabulous wrap-around screen porch offers tree-top views of the river and town of Saugatuck, and there is a hot tub to relax in at the end of the day. A large living/dining area with a cozy wood burning stove makes this a great house for entertaining, and country antiques add to Oval Beach Cottage’s warmth and rustic charm.
Just up a wooded path is the guest house (Acorn), a cozy one-room log cabin that is perfect for two. Acorn has barn-beam cathedral ceilings, a fireplace, small kitchen and bath, and a deck high up in the tree-tops.
This is truly a delightful spot

We love this very special area of the country.
The woods, the dunes, the beach, the farms, the antique stores, farmer's markets, light houses, fog horns, great restaurants, art galleries and the historical charm.
Mark purchased this cottage in 1998
Our family has owned cottages in Saugatuck for over 75 years! Wanted a classic summer cottage in a great location. We think ours is very special.
It is hard to beat the location of this property.
You can walk just a few steps to the Chain Ferry that crosses
the Kalamozoo River and puts you in the heart of downtown Saugatuck (beats the parking woes!). Wooded walking trails, views of the sailboats coming down the river and super close to the beach!
As the last house on Oval Beach Road, the beach is less than a 1/2 mile.
Have been coming to your cottage every summer with my family and enjoy it more and more each year. I loved the bunk room & bathroom renovations. We had a stellar, family card game tournament on the beautiful porch nestled in the trees. My kids especially love the hot tub and close proximity to the ferry. This home is so inviting and cozy - can't wait until next year!
Family loved this cottage! Great location.
You don't come to a lake cottage in Saugatuck for fancy modern bathrooms and sleek minamilst furniture. This cottage assures you a 'sense of place'. The wrap around porch surrounded by a canopy of 80+/- year old trees, a comforting fireplace, a rustic kitchen and an ideal location (stones throw from the towns 'action' but just an arms length away). This is not the W hotel in downtown Manhattan, it is the quintessential 'cottage'. I've read a few reviews of this place and can tell you that in my two week stay here I had zero, I mean ZERO issues w 'mold'. To be fair, I am not one of those '...is there any dairy in it...was it farmed a 100ft away...what was the cows name...I'm allergic to air and water, so...' If you are THAT person, maybe I'm missing something?? Love this cottage. If you're coming to Saugatuck, be a part of Saugatuck. Perfection? Shoot, what the heck is that anyway?? Come and enjoy, we certainly did!
We had a group of 8 adults - we had a great time lost of fun - we had pletny of room - one couple even slept in the tree house. We were able to walk to Oval Beach - climb the 300 stairs to Old Baldy. We went for a Paddle boat ride, saw a comedien in town, walked the town, and our favorite played games on the wrap around porch - thanks for a wonderful weekend.
Dear Phillips family,
We just went to book our week at Oval Beach Cottage, and were quite surprised to see the latest review referring to mold/mildew. We have stayed in this cottage annually for five years, and never had a problem with this. In fact, every year the cottage has been improved, and you clearly try hard to make it comfortable for all. The staff has always been accommodating, and were quick to fix any glitch we may have encountered. We have stayed in many houses over the years, but Oval Beach Cottage captures the vintage summerhouse charm we are looking for. Not easy to find in rental homes (I also learned that the owner is a writer for Coastal Living magazine…which is obvious in the tasteful decor). Confused by the last review, but we will be back for our regular week in June! Counting the days…
This cottage has a great location, but that's about it. Very rustic. OLD. No AC so beware, everything feels damp. There are 30 narrow steps to shlep all your belongings up. Very dark and musty. We cut our stay short due to the conditions. We have rented variously places for over 20 years, this was by far the worst and most disappointing.
