I am contemplating changing to a 'No Pet' policy next year. Please feel free to let me know thoughts on this. I hate to have to do it, but dog hair, barking at the neighbors, and waste left in the yard is forcing this. I will still "consider" pets but please think about your dog's personality and shedding before requesting. Thanks so much!
This spacious cottage has fantastic views across a wide part of the river to Cobb Island in Maryland; the sunrise is breathtaking. The sandy beach is perfect for spending summer days sunbathing, lounging, swimming and jetskiing. The floor plan is open with windows and doors to the water. The master bedroom is directly off the living room separated by large double pocket doors and looks directly out to the amazing view. The woodburning fireplace is a perfect place to spend down-time away from the cities of Richmond and Washington, D.C. when you get the slightest whim or need to get-away. The kitchen is new and contains everything you need for cooking while at the same time watching fishermen, swans, osprey and watercraft. There are restaurants closeby with local fish and crabs on the menu and the house is equipped with a cable tv and wireless internet.
About The Bleu Bayou: This property was updated to serve as a vacation home that meets the desirability for a perfectly relaxing getaway from Washington, D.C. and Richmond, within 65 miles from each with the beach at the back door.
The screened porch is large, 15 x 20, with a ceiling fan, and is just off the kitchen so preparing food to eat outside is ultra convenient. The french doors from the kitchen are always open when the weather is good.
The Bleu Bayou is a wonderfully quiet property during the work-week and with lots of activity on the weekends. There is a private beachfront to enjoy and a private community pier and boatramp which may be available to guests. The Bleu Bayou is just outside the Town of Colonial Beach for its restaurants, casino, coffee shop and golf cart meandering - and just the right distance away from the house to be convenient.
About Westmoreland County: Colonial Beach is on the northern part of Westmoreland County, Virginia and a favorite vacation and weekend spot for Washingtonians.
Lower Westmoreland County is rural, abundant with wineries, a berry farm and historical elements from colonial times. Stratford Hall (the Lee family home) is nearby and there are many wildlife fish and game refuge areas. It is close enough to Washington, D.C. for day trips or overnight stays to visit museums and monuments or take in the nightlife and entertainment. It is also close to Old Town Alexandria, Virginia to take in artistic communities and shopping, churches and restaurants. George Washington's home, Mount Vernon, is in Alexandria and open to visitors.
Additional activities Include Kings Dominion Theme park just 1/2 hr away, and our area also boasts two major-league baseball teams, the Washington Nationals and the Baltimore Orioles for your enjoyment. You might also visit the Baltimore Inner Harbor with great restaurants, shopping and the fantastic National Aquarium.
I have been a vacation rental owner in the Colonial Beach area since 2005 and opened my Bleu Bayou property in 2009; I recently opened a new property in Phoenix Arizona and love sharing my homes with other travelers.
Bonnie purchased this cottage in 2001
This is the perfect beachfront home; a most relaxing place to be within a few hours of the stressful Washington, D.C. Everyone in the DMV has to sit in traffic so long every day, this property is so close, it makes it the perfect getaway without involving more driving!!! For those outside the DMV, the area is the absolute best of waterfront vacationing.
Views; private sandy beach; crabs to eat and the best screened porch ever!
We spent a restful week at the cottage. The cottage reminds me of a family retreat with furniture added overtime.
The river was perfect for my grandchildren. shallow enough for them to walk in at low tide.
Each time we prepared to shop, we found that supplies were already at the house - spices, oil and foil pans.
Th wonderful late summer week.
We had an absolutely wonderful time here! We chose Bleu Bayou for our annual girls week in 2015. The view was beautiful. We loved the screened in back porch where we could relax and read and enjoy the view. Also the large table in front of the large window was wonderful for relaxing and playing games while still enjoying the amazing view. Great restaurants in the area. Bonnie was very nice and quick to respond to any questions. We loved our stay. The only complaint is that it was too short! Would definitely stay here again!
We rented as the season was ending, but there was still so much to do in the area, especially within a reasonable drive. DC and Fredericksburg weren't too far away, and the town of Colonial Beach was fun. There are also good restaurants at Colonial Beach and 2 grocery stores nearby. There was a lot of hiking within a short drive which I highly recommend.
The unit itself was cute and definitely big enough for my family of 3 to have more than enough room. All appliances were recent and in good working order. Some of the furniture and the gas grill had some issues which the owner is taking care of. From the master suite bed we could see the horizon as the sun came up over the Potomac, which is an amazing way to wake up.
Overall, great place to stay. Felt like home right away.
Bonnie is a wonderful person to deal with, the best. The house is spacious and was spotless, the location perfect. The back porch is a slice of heaven. The house is laid out in a way that if someone wants some privacy they can get it. You're just a 15 minute drive to the actual town of Colonial Beach. And, you have your own private beach area! Terrific place.
My Wife and I and our two dogs spent the week after labor day at the Bleu Bayou!! It was exactly as described in VRBO. Bonnie was wonderful to work with she helped with everything. This vacation was what I call my disconnect time off so I was a little worried about this location due to the other homes being so close but Bonnie assured me that it is very quiet during the week so we went for it!! We arrived on Labor Day there were a lot of people down there at that time but the neighbor to the right of the house was very nice and he ended up helping me with my boat the next morning. On Tuesday the place was deserted other then the home three doors down and they were very nice also. Our dogs loved the place they went right for the beach and the river which is where we spent most of our time. The water is very shallow out 200ft from shore and it was very clear. No jelly fish when we were there too! The screened in porch was our hang out spot if we were not on the beach that was very nice. The dogs loved that Bonnie has a day bed on the porch and we covered it with some blankets we brought from home and that was the dogs throne for the week they would lay up there after being in the water all day and watch the river go by. Don't worry Bonnie we cleaned them off first and dried them! The house was very nice even though we did not spend much time in it everything you need to cook and clean was there. We think the next time we come we will stay for a weekend also it looks like it would be a fun place! It's a great place to bring a boat if you have one there is a nice tiki bar at the marina that is a two minute boat ride from the house and they have great food too! If you like looking at the night sky like I do bring your telescope or some binoculars the sky's are beautiful. I'm a big grilling nut so the only thing that was not perfect about the property was the grill! So if you love to grill bring a small grill from home the one there works OK but it can only cook things fast like burgers or hotdogs.
Our family of 6 stayed here for the second half of our spring break after spending the first half in Washington DC. We wanted to rest and relax after the hustle and bustle of DC. The only problem was that the weather didn't cooperate so we didn't get much beach time. But the cottage was perfect for our family. We did walk along the beach (my younger two went in in 50 degree weather!) and look for shells, relaxed in the living room reading books and watching TV. We went into Fredericksburg one day to check out civil war sites. And we ate supper one night at Denson's Grocery. Bonnie was fabulous to work with - prompt with emails and booking and security deposit return. I would love to return!
Other Activities: Historical Civil War tours, winery tours, Westmoreland Berry Farm, Kings Dominion
