This picture is of me and my dog, Amy, as we were resting on the large rock outcropping that overlooks the American River canyon on our way down the Pickering Bar trail.
Diane Stevenson purchased this house in 2005
We bought this as our family compound, but as lives change, so did ours. Using this home as a vacation rental has helped me to finance my son's college education. I have also been able to donate weekly reservations to the numerous good causes, including the Down's Buddy Walk and numerous fund raisers for the families of Cancer patients. I move in myself when we have company from out of town and pretend that I am 'on vacation' too! It's great!
I love hiking down into the 'diggings', exploring the old gold mining areas, swimming in the mountain lakes, sitting in the spa under the stars and just enjoying the quiet solitude of this gorgeous and peaceful setting.
Well-appointed--kitchen equipped with everything. Tons of towels, blankets, beds, pillows, books, games, puzzles. Stunning natural surroundings. Lovely host.
We had a wonderful time in a clean, fully stocked house with a friendly and generous owner! Thank you again!!
We had a lovely relaxing weekend with the dog. The property is set up with everything you need, incredibly comfortable and peaceful retreat in the woods near the river and plenty of hiking. It was exactly what we needed!
My friends and I had an amazing time over new years. What a great cabin, with adjacent hiking and a wonderful spa. I would definitely stay here again.
I have been to both the Log and Mountain house rentals on a few occasions and both are extremely well kept, homey and comfortable. Even better than the accommodations is the owner who is accessible and will do whatever is needed to make your visit special. When we were there she was rounding up a turkey roaster for a renter's Thanksgiving dinner. If it isn't already in the house (and everything you could possibly need is) she'll find it. She also has great local connections and knows the scenic off the grid places for great sightseeing, hikes, meals etc. Great places for a single or family retreat, and the hot tub under the stars is downright magical. Thanks Di for a wonderful time, always.
Perfect weekend get away house with all the amenities for indoor and outdoor entertainment. Set in the woods with hiking trails nearby leading to the beautiful American River Canyon, easy drive to Dutch Flat. The host Diane was most gracious and helpful. We would definitely rent this home again.
Numerous local hiking trails to old gold mining areas, Canyon Creek, the Pickering Bar trail, the American River canyon, much local history and ponds for exploring or swimming, less than 10 min. to Rollins Lake. Great location for a small wedding, retreats, a family reunion or just a quiet get-away for two.
