House, 2 BR, 1 BA, Along the creek, Ideally sleeps 4.
This charming setting and cottage has become known as the first home built along the creek.
There are numerous traces and remnants of historic Capitola hidden, but still remaining in this old beach town. This unit is one of them and is available to be rented anytime of year. Take advantage of these great seasonal rates!
Recently renovated, this cozy historic 2 bedroom 1 bath riverfront cottage is located in the heart of the Capitola Village. You can enjoy this peaceful habitat setting, relaxing in the most spacious yard, or on the deck overlooking the coastal wildlife along the banks of Soquel Creek. Certainly, walking a two-minute trail stroll to Capitola’s most popular beach, wharf, shopping, bars & restaurants is an option as well. This furnished beach cottage is in an ideal location and provides the perfect retreat for a family or friends.
This sweet craftsman is in the shape of a duplex now that does share 1 wall and the front patio. However, it has not lost it's original and historic charm. To whom will you be sharing the wall with? Well, a very nice tenant who has complete understanding that we rent our side unit during the summer. The tenant keeps to themselves and you may see a glimpse of him/her coming and going. Situated in the Riverview Terrace neighborhood, you will feel like you have a very private setting. We have been renting for numerous years now and have yet to have any issues with this arrangement.
This is a great place for a couple or small family that want to enjoy this great little village without hassle! Relax on the deck with a drink overlooking the creek. Cuddle up with your honey or with your loved ones while taking in the smells and sounds of this coastal riperian corridor.

About Dan Finkel
I very much enjoy living in Capitola for it has much to offer. There are sandy beaches to walk on, surfing and fishing in the ocean, and hiking and biking in nearby forests. Being a general contractor means working outside a lot. This area has some fog in the summer months, that really makes for a comfortable climate. I like to build and work on homes. More recently, I have built a number of decks and fences using redwood and bamboo harvested sustainably from the Santa Cruz area. One thing I hear about Capitola that holds truth, 'Once you come here, you will always come back.'
Dan Finkel purchased this Cottage in 1976
Why Dan Finkel chose Capitola
Capitola is a great place to live along the coast . In only a little over an hour by car and you can be in San Francisco or Monterrey/Carmel. Being within walking distance of the beach has ethereal advantages. There is nothing else like the sounds of the waves lapping or crashing along the shoreline. There always seems to be an influx of aquatic life that beckons into this bay's region during the summer months. Whale watching and fishing has been epic in recent years and is just a walk to the wharf and a boat ride away. I like to think that the beach is close enough to enjoy the excitement, yet far enough away when it is time for quietude.
What makes this Cottage unique
This craftsman home is the first house to be built along Soquel Creek. The view across the creek makes you feel like you are in the forest, yet the ocean is also visable beneath the train trestle and Stockton bridges. Far enough away from the traffic, there is a subtle peacefulness. Some large trees provide shade. There is a spacious driveway for parking and large creek side yard with a redwood deck and benches for relaxing. Being along the creek allows viewing of a wide variety of waterfowl. The beach is within a two-minute walk along a foot path that provides a straight shot to the beach.

Great location spoiled by noise, no water activities available
I hate to be contrarian to reviews here, but our family just stayed in this location and as the saying goes, "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times." We had high, high hopes given the reviews and photos shown here, and also knowing the ideal location of this unit. We didn't mind the small living space or idea of sharing a wall with a tenant -- Dan was great, as was mentioned elsewhere here, and it was a pleasure meeting him. There's something irreplaceable about waking up in this location only seconds from downtown and the beach and everything wonderful about Capitola. But when waking up means being subjected at 7:45am to trucks, pounding music, hammering, sawing, and a gas generator each morning, it kinda spoils things. The house next door is going through a complete remodel, which should have been disclosed to us during booking. Instead, we were given instructions (as all tenants are) that if we were too loud, we would forfeit our deposit and rental. We were also under the impression from the VRBO photos that the paddle board, kayak and bikes would be available, but none of these were to be found. Only later did we learn of the winter flooding which requires a lower water level, and that apparently these items are only available once the river flow is blocked, presumably sometime in the summer. All in all, it could have been an enjoyable stay in a cramped older building in a beautiful location, but only if the rental was more accurately represented in terms of noise and activities.
Perfect relaxing place
Our family has stayed here several times and it is our favorite getaway. Walk to the beach and shops. Head to the Boardwalk. There is so much to do. You can also just relax by the creek.
Hop, skip and a paddle from the beach.
We loved the cottage, the location, the kayak, the paddle board, evening BBQ, morning coffee on the creek. A quiet, quaint place in a great location with all the amenities. Owners are very accommodating.
Essence of old Capitola and a great location.
Loved being on the river and so close to the village. The house was clean and well equipped but could use better mattresses, pillows and towels. If someone wants to experience what Capitola was like in the old days this cottage is the epitome of a rustic seashore city. We had a great time in the large front yard and the deck. The cottage is also a great place to people watch as it's on a path along the river that mostly only locals use. We had a very nice time there, and our visit brought back memories of the Capitola I knew nearly fifty years ago. I would recommend to anyone interested in Capitola to stay on the river and experience how unique Capitola is.
Great little spot in Capitola!
We had a great time in walking distance from Capitola beach. The house is clean and stocked well with the necessary items. The deck next to the creek gets plenty of sunshine with access to the water. The kayaks and bicycles were nice to have available too. Would stay here again!
Awesome river cottage!
My husband and I enjoyed your river cottage very much. It was clean, and well stocked with basic essentials. It was quiet on the river the weekend we were there. It is close to Capitola Village, the beach and a nice place to relax. Thank you again for a lovely place to stay. We will be back!
Wine tasting, bars, baseball & soccer fields, playground, across the river from Shadowbrook Restaurant. Numerous golf courses nearby. Centrally located for Golf at Pasatiempo and Carmel Golf courses.
