About The Owner

The Owners, Sam Beale and Mark Edwards have been best friends for over 30 years. We met in college and both have careers in the Construction Management and Real Estate Development fields. We both have families who also share a passion for the outdoors, especially hiking, biking, horse back riding, and antique hunting in the North Georgia mountains. This cabin is the perfect weekend retreat to meet all of our outdoor lifestyle needs, and an excellent place to get away for relaxation.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2006

Why The Owner chose Cherry Log

We have always dreamed of owning a cabin in the north Georgia mountains and learned of this 4-acre property with a cozy cabin that fit our needs perfectly. We chose to renovate/update and rent the cabin in order to share our private cabin atop Prince Mountain with others who have a passion for the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and to help with the annual expenses involved with owning our dream property.

What makes this cabin unique

We mostly enjoy the incredible view. In the morning, we look down on the low-lying clouds that fill the multiple visible valleys while the sun rises, then throughout the day we overlook as far as the weather will allow, and finally overlook the glow of down-town Blue Ridge in the distant valley at night. We also enjoy roasting marshmellows in the stone fireplace, or outside in the stone fire ring on the mountainside.

Nice place with issues getting up the mountain.

  • 2 of 5

Everything was nice except for the last part of the drive up to the cabin. It's not passable for regular cars or SUVs. We tried both. Noticed in the guest book that the people who had just rented before us couldn't get up the hill at all! Hiking your stuff up and down that steep hill is tough and shouldn't happen. The rental property listing should read that a 4 wheel drive is required.

The cabin and views are lovely if you can get up there. We enjoyed the romantic fires we built together at night and morning coffee on the porch overlooking the scenic mountains. So quiet and peaceful up there. So glad my husband and I are young and mobile. If not, the trips up and down those last 2 steep hills on foot would have ruined our vacation.

Owner's Response: Our neighbor placed too much new gravel in the section of road in front of his cabin and to the top of the mountain where our cabin is. The gravel was graded down and re-spread and we understand that there was only a problem for the few days around the Thanksgiving Holiday. The gravel road is steep near the top of the mountain, but all-wheel drive and/or four wheel drive is not required if slow/steady speed is maintained.

The perfect weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

First let me say that the owners were incredibly responsive to any question that I had and I appreciate that very much. If it's available the next time we want to get away, we'll be there.

The cabin is adorable. It's warm, cozy & tidy. The beds were comfortable, towels well stocked and hot water plentiful. Directions were easy to follow and the road is in excellent shape. The last 75 yards or so were bit steep but my front wheel drive vehicle managed wet & dry roads. It takes about 25 minutes to get to either Blue Ridge or Ellijay, so the location was exactly where we needed to be. If you have kids or teenagers, please note the wifi was excellent!

The view was amazing every time we looked, regardless of the time of day. We watched the sun come up our first morning from the rocking chairs on the deck, wrapped in a blanket drinking coffee.

Other reviews have mentioned the neighbors dogs, but we only heard it barking a few times. It was never terribly early in the morning or too late at night. Certainly nothing I'd call problematic.

Great location, clean, well equipped & fabulous view but the road up...well read on.

  • 3 of 5

Planned a short trip to the moutains with my family from Destin Florida. I will start with all that was good about the cabin/trip.

We arrived to a very clean and inviting cabin. Teena (the housekeeper) had left the porch light on and the soothing music playing. The cabin came equipped with everything you could possibly need besides groceries which we brought. Plenty of towels, soap, dishwasher detergent and cleaning supplies too. I thought that was great. The appearance, location and views were stunning and what we expected and then some. We enjoyed the hot tub as well.

Now for the not so good. We were not told that the road (steep hill) to the cabin had been newly graveled. Evidently the wrong gravel & too much was used. We arrived at dark and our cars got stuck. We couldn't get them up the hill. Thankfully the neighbor helped us unpack our entire car and drove my husband up the hill (2 trips). We had already walked up carrying hands full of bags/groceries. Me and 2 12 year olds. In the dark. Later that night our son & fiance arrived and got stuck also. Another trip down and up the mountain with their gear. Man what a night. Finally got settled in for the night. The next day we had to take one car into town and leave it there since the road is narrow and it couldn't be left there. A few more trips down and up the mountain. Then today at check out the amazing neighbor wasnt around to help us so we carried everything (including a giant Yeti cooler) down the hill to our vehicle, drove son/fiancee back to town to their vehicle, back to the cabin for the rest of our stuff so a few more hikes up/down that damn hill. Teena was so nice. We let her in early to start her clean for the next guests. Hope she enjoys the key lime pie and fresh key limes we left her.

Truly we made the best of it and were fortunate there was no rain or snow to contend with but the weekend did not turn out to be the relaxing getaway we had hoped for due to the road disaster. All I can say is if you have a 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle you may fair better. I now am.returning to Destin to rest up from all that hiking/carrying. If it weren't for the road and us not being told this would be a 5 star review. Hell if good exercise except my husband is a disabled vet and it was very hard on him.

Owner's Response: Thanks Jonelle, As we discussed, another cabin Owner just downhill from us put two loads of gravel down just before your arrival and it was not yet packed down or spread properly. Our apologies for the unwanted cardio training, especially for your husband, our Veteran.

Has potential, good view.

Arrived in the evening after a long travel (7.5 hours) to find the cabin hadn't been cleaned. Text owner (pictures included) it didn't seem possible this cabin had been cleaned. Apparently there was a mistake with the cleaning company and I was correct the cabin hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The cleaning company arrived that night at 7:30 pm and offered for us to leave the cabin for it to be cleaned, however I had already bleached the shower and started to wash the linens. Since it was getting late, they offered to clean the cabin the next day. They arrived the next day but due to the condition of the cabin, they exceeded the time they stated they would be there. Since it was now approaching 7:30 pm AGAIN, we opted to NOT use the upstairs loft so we could have the company leave so we could try and enjoy our vacation. Keep in mind, we paid a 95 dollar cleaning fee in our agreement and arrived to a dirty cabin. So this was night 2 of having someone else in our place we rented. Throughout the week I continued to find things in the cabin that had been neglected for quite some time. Most the dishes in the cabinets had food stuck on them. Despite the shower being cleaned twice, it continued to have mold. The refrigerator didn't seem to cool properly. Just overall, not the experience we were going for. The nice aspects of the cabin were the view, the hot tub that was working properly and the fire place. This cabin has rough roads to it that appeared to be washed away from storms so 4wheel drive was nice to have. I would be cautious taking a car to this cabin at this point. Also, the dogs from the top of the mountain came down frequently, which most were harmless and welcomed, however one time a dog was very rambunctious making us have to go inside. We've been coming to N.Georgia for many years and while this cabin is decent, we have stayed at others for less money that met our expectations better.

Owner's Response: We welcome and appreciate our guests' reviews and comments. Yes, our cleaning service did let us down this time, but has been proven over the years to provide a good cleaning service and has always been on time. We did have long-term (6 weeks) guests check-out the same day of this check-in, so only had a 4-hour window to clean the cabin. The cleaning service Owner did have a personal health issue, and was late getting the substitute cleaner to the cabin. It was our understanding that the cleaning was performed shortly after check-in instead of the next day, so timing may have been worked out without our input. Upon receiving the call from this guest, we apologized and immediately refunded the cleaning fee, with sincere regrets that we were unable to have the cabin ready for our guests arrival. The specific cleaning items above have been brought to the attention of our cleaning and maintenance services and will be addressed immediately. Thanks again for the comments which help us continue to improve our service.

Great view

  • 4 of 5

Cabin was great, very quiet and cozy. Roads are a little bit of a challenge to get up. Caution if you take a pet with you there is a gentleman at the top of the road that lets his 5-7 dogs just wander. We couldn't let our pup out when they were out. Luckily a lot of the towns are dog friendly so he went everywhere with us.

Nice cabin, steps to loft very step, limited view, well off the betting path

  • 2 of 5

When we arrived the road was a little slick in places getting to the cabin. We were not anticipating the rain and were afraid to go back down the mountain to go site seeing. We were originally going to stay 3 nights but decided to leave a day early due to a break in the rain. The front door was glass and did not have curtains which made us feel uncomfortable. We hung a blanket over it at night. The fireplace was pretty but had strong odor which affected my allergies. Hot tub cover very heavy and awkward to take off

Owner's Response: We appreciate ALL feedback, mostly positive with a few occasional 'constructive criticism' reviews. Eagles Nest IS on top of Prince Mountain, which means uphill driving. The gravel road is well maintained, although steep in the last 100 to 150 feet and can be slippery or loose gravel with heavy rains as we have experienced for the last few weeks. A 'full-time resident' neighbor maintains the gravel road as needed after weather events. The front door has glass panes and is visible in our "Main/Cover Photo", and being secluded on top of the mountain makes sense to have open to the view outdoors - a feature that we believe the majority of our guests came for and appreciate. The fireplace (also present in our photos) is a natural wood-burning fireplace, so it does smell like a fireplace....again, a feature that we believe the majority of our guests enjoy. The hot tub cover is standard construction, lightweight insulation, but it is a large hot tub so the cover may be heavier than a smaller hot tub cover. "View" comment must be related to their experience with rain both days - see other guests comments regarding our view. Our "View" photo speaks for itself and was taken from our deck. I welcome the challenge of ANY other Blue Ridge cabin to have a better view than Eagles Nest :-)
