This property is a private bungalow in the best location in Venice Beach. It is walking distance from the two best shopping and entertainment streets on the west side of Los Angeles- Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, and Main Street in Santa Monica. Both streets offer a multitude of restaurants, shopping, antiques, pubs and other entertainment, all close by. Also close by is the beach, with the famous Venice Boardwalk to the south, and the Santa Monica Pier to the north. To the east, Whole Foods Market, the neighborhood breakfast place, Flake, the Venice Beach Wine Bar, and more restaurants are a just short walk away.
Because there is no place like Venice, and to truly experience it you must live like a local (not stay in a hotel). There is an energy and excitement in our neighborhood that is unparalleled. A vibrant cultural, art, music and culinary scene makes Venice a great place to live and vacation.
Great location; can walk to restaurants, stores, etc. Dedicated parking place was nice although we only had to use it once; plenty of parking in front. Tent city across the street was a little scary, but they seemed to keep to themselves. Things to fix: kitchen faucet was not bolted to the sink, shower head on the left had no handle, direct TV kept going out, we couldn't find any drinking glasses but maybe we missed them. We didn't cook at all so we can't comment on the oven or cooktop. Overall great for the price.
We had 2 adults and 2 kids, so it was a little tight. We needed more towels so I emailed John and he immediately responded and had towels delivered the next day. I was extremely impressed how John would immediately answer my emails. Again it was clean and great location. The only improvement that I felt it needed was a new mattress. It was pretty caved in the middle, but sheets and comforter were clean.
It was mostly what I expected reading the reviews from previous occupants. It was barely clean enough and the space needs a fair amount of attention for the price. Easy to walk lots of places from there and Parking was a blessing, but the security was lacking. The old key lock box in the door - fell out all the time. Some one could just stick their hand through the hole in the door to get in to the property giving them access to the deck and the hot tub. Homelessness has increased quite a bit in the area over the past couple of years and there are a lot of people with out homes camped out along Rose. Which made the security more of an issue, a temptation for people in need.
The garden cottage we stayed in, while small was a very comfortable stay for me and my mother who was visiting for her birthday. The living room futon/pull out bed was surprisingly comfortable and Sandra stocked the kitchen with breakfast food that we enjoyed on the lovely patio garden. It was also a great location right by downtown Ventura and the street parking was also very convenient/easy. Thank you Sandra!
My fiancé and I frequently travel, and decided to stay here for our first trip to the Venice/Santa Monica area.
This is a great little beach house with a 9 minute walk to Venice.
When we first arrived, I couldn't quite figure out why there were people camped out in tents across the street. By morning, I realized it was actually homeless people living there. There is no need to be alarmed by this...they are harmless and hardly ever cross the street.
The house is fenced-in with locked gates.
The hot tub was great at night after a long day of walking!
One minor detail that will save time: If you have rented a car, the parking space is behind the unit and has to be accessed from the alley. Once you find the unit number of your space, you have to give your a large amount of space from the gates...they open out.
Also, I highly recommend taking an Uber VS trying to park at the beach. It's quicker and cheaper.
All in all I thought the place was great and would stay there again!
Our overall experience at this property was good and the location is tremendous. It was the perfect size for the two of us however I've stayed in many VRBO rental properties before and I definitely had some things pop up that I think could have made our experience better. I've listed some pros and cons below.
Hot Tub when the water was hot (had a bit of trouble keeping the temp up)
Double sinks in the bathroom
Shower was good but rain shower head was rusted up
Ample closet drawers for clothing but there were only 4 hangers so couldn't hang much
Nice beach towels
Fitted sheet and mattress cover doesn't fit mattress - slides off during the night and it's pretty gross to wake up on a bare mattress
Stains on pillow cases
Wobbly kitchen faucet
Bed frame squeaks horribly loud with any subtle movement
Bike chains rusted out (did get a replacement bike but it was delivered covered in dirt and spider webs)
No wine glasses
Thin bathroom towels that felt a bit wore out
Location and amenities were as described
Property was clean but could use more maintenance
Owner didn't provide as communication for our questions as we had hoped
We would recommend this property to our friends
Tons of activities and attractions near by
The street across from the unit is lined with Tents every night which was a bit concerning but overall felt safe
We are happy to have stayed here and I think with a few tweaks this place would be outstanding.
Thanks for having us!
