House Details: The Wrens' Nest is an 8 year old luxurious, contemporary home with top quality construction, furnishings, appliances, bedding, and location. It is a perfect vacation home for those individuals who want the best and are willing to care for it. The house is built on two levels, with the main living spaces on the upper level. We have a flat driveway and you enter the house on the second (main) level, so you don't have to negotiate stairs or a steep driveway with your groceries and luggage. On this level are the living-dining-kitchen area, dry bar, office, master suite, main deck, 'screenless' porch, grilling deck, powder bath with shower, laundry/mud room, and double garage.

The living - dining area is furnished with comfortable and quality materials and is designed for relaxation and conversation. The centerpiece of the room is the wood burning fireplace with raised hearth and 20 foot high stone face. A down sofa and several comfortable chairs will draw you to the fire, the view, or a good book!

The bar with beverage refrigerator and storage for glasses and mugs will make drink prep very convenient. The dining area is fitted with a table which is set up to seat 6 and expands to accommodate 10! Additional seating for 4 is available at the huge granite island and on the screenless porch!.

The open galley kitchen is a delight to work in. It has a built in refrigerator with paneled doors, 6 burner gas cook top, regular oven, convection-microwave oven, and a very quiet dishwasher. The 12 foot x 5 foot island and tall pantry cabinets provide plenty of storage for food and cooking supplies. A second refrigerator is in the garage so feel free to bring plenty of food!

Just off the kitchen is a delightful covered porch, open to the views on two sides. Unscreened, since we have no bugs at this elevation, you will love the comfy rockers and picnic table for four as you watch humming birds and feel the mountain breezes.

Perfect for sunny days is our spacious open deck off the living-dining area. Comfortable rockers and a tall bar table with swivel chairs overlook our "garden" which is rapidly becoming part of the forest. Views of several mountain peaks and ever changing cloud formations will entice you to sit, relax, dream, and absorb the beauty of nature at its best.

The master bedroom opens to the deck and the hot tub just outside. It has a king poster bed, dresser, 48' wall mounted HD TV, DVD player, and lounge chair. The master bath has heated floors, wall mounted TV, double vanity, soaking tub, and separate walk in shower. A walk in closet and toilet room complete the suite.

On the front of the house is a spacious office with built in desk and seating for three. We have an optional high speed wireless card, so feel free to bring your lap top and get a little work done in beautiful surroundings.

Truly magnificent long range mountain views are seen from every room!

On the lower level you will find a large game room with reclining sofa and chairs, game table with seating for 6, large TV/DVD player, and a wet bar with under counter refrigerator, sink, and old fashioned popcorn maker. Just outside is a long covered deck with fabulous mountain views, several more rockers, three bedrooms, and two baths.

The 'junior master' suite features a king bed and private bath with large walk in shower and double vanity. The queen bedroom and 'bear room' share a full bath with a double vanity. The 'bear room' is a kid's delight, featuring two double beds. The king bedroom and the queen bedroom both have a wall of windows to enjoy the spendid views.

For larger gatherings, we have a bonus room over the garage. Outfitted with three single beds, TV/DVD player, and plenty of space for lounging, it is a perfect getaway for the teens or young adults in your group! It is heated with an efficient space heater in the winter; no air conditioning needed in the summer! This room is optional with additional fees.

About Judy Wren

We live in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and built the Wrens' Nest as a second home, not planning to rent it. However, since we can't be here ALL the time, we decided we would rather share it with discriminating renters than leave it empty for weeks at a time. We have a high end oceanfront vacation business in the Ponte Vedra / St. Augustine area and have had excellent success renting to people who appreciate our homes and take very good care of them. We think you will love our wonderful Wrens' Nest, perched high above Maggie Valley, with outstanding long range views and all the amenities you could think of!

Judy Wren purchased this house in 2009

Why Judy Wren chose Cataloochee Ranch

We had been looking for the perfect NC mountain location for years. Our criteria included: at least 4000 foot elevation; long range mountain views; NOT surrounded by other houses; no telephone wires to spoil the view, easy access to the main roads; good restaurants and attractions nearby; and a flat driveway and entrance to the house. As you can imagine, these qualities are VERY hard to find in the mountains, especially when you insist on ALL of them! But, the minute we saw Lot 5 in The Seasons of Maggie Valley, we knew we had found our dream location. Then...all we had to do was build the house!

What makes this house unique

The Wrens' Nest is NOT the typical mountain 'cabin'. It depends on what is important to you, of course, but we think you will appreciate our combination of wonderful features:

*unbelievable long range mountain views while enjoying easy access to and from the house

*light and bright interiors with quality and comfortable furnishings, bedding and decor; enjoy our original art, award winning quilts, and all the other touches that make this house a home;

* a house filled with special amenities: walnut floors, heated bath floors in the master, stereo system throughout the house and decks, 5 televisions/DVD players; lots of games and puzzles for kids and adults; top quality appliances and cookware; separate entertainment room with game table and wet bar;

* two huge decks, a covered 'screenless porch', and even a covered grilling deck

*hot tub and wireless Internet...both OPTIONAL in case you don't want them

*double garage with automatic openers, security system,

'tankless' water heater... and more. We challenge you to find a comparable home for anywhere near our price!

The Wrens' Nest is a newer home in a peaceful development called The Seasons of Maggie Valley. The Seasons is located off Fie Top Road, 1.9 miles up from Soco Road and 1.5 miles below the Cataloochee Ski Area. Although the house is located at 4300 feet elevation, the access up Fie Top Road is very easy; you will need a 4 wheel drive and possibly chains in snowy weather, of course.

You will never see views as spectacular as those from The Wrens' Nest. Long range mountain views, with no telephone wires, roads, or roof tops to spoil the beauty, are simply stunning. Regardless of the season or the weather, you will love looking out over the mountains and watching the clouds drift by.

The house is perfectly situated to enjoy privacy in a serene mountain setting yet have easy access to skiing, golf, restaurants, shopping, and other activities.

In the winter, our guests love the easy access to skiing and the Snow Slide at the bottom of Fie Top Road. For those with an itch for gaming, Cherokee is just a 15 mile drive. And of course everyone loves to visit Asheville with its many attractions, including a visit to the Biltmore Estate.

When you arrive at The Wrens' Nest, be sure to take a good luck at our huge, two volume book of Things to Do! You won't have time to do all the fun things available...and many of you choose to give up some of these exciting adventures to hang out and enjoy the many amenities and views available right there!

This is the best there is.

This place is absolutely amazing. We have used it two years in a row and it is so beautiful we no longer want to go back to Hilton Head. It is so well appointed that 6 mature gentlemen can stay there and feel at completely at home on a 7 day golf trip. We have had this gold for 25 years. I hate to tell the world how good Wren's nest is as I feel like it is MY PLACE and so did all the other men on the trip. Yes, the listing is very accurate. Yes, this was very clean and very maintained. The support from the owner was fabulous. I would absolutely recommend this place but don't you dare try to rent it during the period we are going there again next year.

Owner's Response: Wow, what a wonderful review...and NO, I did not write it myself! :-) I will have to say though, that these fine men are just as wonderful as the house is...I feel VERY lucky that I can comfortably rent to 8 guys on a golf vacation and be assured that they are going to take perfect care of our property. But they do, and so do the vast majority of our other renters. I have found out through the years that the nicer the house is, the nicer are the renters. We hope that you, too, will keep up the tradition and will find The Wrens' Nest to be YOUR very favorite vacation spot!

Exceptional Stay

  • 5 of 5

The Wren's Nest did not disappoint our family. My Mom, brother and his family, sister and her family, and my husband and I and our two daughters could not stop talking about what an amazing place we'd found! Our ages ran from 14-73. We thoroughly enjoyed nights on the patio and at the kitchen table playing games. The view is amazing. It is so peaceful and lovely. It is nestled in the quaint town of Maggie Valley, but you can easily travel to Asheville and see the Biltmore estate (which we did), venture to Bryson City, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and the park. The adorable town of Waynesville is a short 15 minute trip and you'll find delicious eats and unique shops. The accommodations were above and beyond. Everyone was comfortable and we all had plenty of space to hang out. I can't say enough about our stay except that we all hope to return.

The Wren's Nest is a great home to escape to when looking for solitude in the mountains. We loved spending time together in the great room/kitchen and enjoyed seeing all the stars from the deck at night.

Great Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

The house was very, very nice, it had everything you would think of needing. All the bedrooms were decorated nicely, clean, well-maintained, and very spacious. The view is absolutely gorgeous. Very close to skiing and tubing but not much else to do in the area. Not far from Asheville, for a day trip. Owners are very nice, very responsive to emails and phone calls and made checking in and out a safe and smooth process. No snow on my visit, but definitely need vehicle equipped for snow if its in the forecast. Would definitely recommend to a friend or go back myself!

Owner's Response: We are sorry that these nice folks missed skiing because that is really the winter activity in this area...skiing plus the sledding that is available for kids. Much more is going on in spring, summer and fall! However, these people, plus many of our other winter guests, are fine with hiking, day trips to Asheville or Cataloochee, or just hanging out at our beautiful home, playing games by the fireplace and enjoying the company. Luckily, we seldom have "no snow" weekends in the winter!
