To briefly escape the hubbub of New York in 2002, I spent two weeks with my best cousin in Vermont. For months after I returned to NY I dreamed of living in Vermont. A year later, thanks to the Internet, I was able to make my dream come true. I bought the property right next door to my cousins place and moved to Vermont for good. A 25-year veteran of the higher education publishing industry, I no longer have to live where the company I work for is located. I telecommute.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2008
My brother liked to come to Vermont in the summer to escape the Florida heat, but he is deathly allergic to dogs and cats and since my cousin and I both have pets, he had to stay in hotels. So in 2008 I built a guest cottage for him on my property. He uses it for a week in summer and a week in winter and the rest of the time (to help pay for it) I am renting it to vacationers.
I love participating in the small town social life of Granville. But what I love most about my new life here is that I can work and vacation in the same place. In the summer I can swim twice a day if I want to, work in my vegetable and flower gardens, go for long walks, hang out with my cousin and her horses, and still put in a respectable day’s work at the computer. I work longer hours in the winter, but still get plenty of exercise walking, show shoeing, and snow shoveling. My son and his family love it here in summer, but even more in winter as they are avid skiers. So I always seem to have family visits on the horizon.
Mary's cottage was a perfect fit for our family. We were close to beautiful hikes, tubing the Mad River and day trips to explore surrounding towns. There are lots of great places to eat nearby and grocery stores if you want to cook in the cottage. The cottage was also wonderful for just relaxing and reading on the back porch or down by the little lake surrounded by the forest. Our boys loved swimming in the lake, using the little paddle boats and playing basketball. The loft room was a perfect hideout for them. Mary is available to answer questions and help out when needed. We would definitely return to this lovely spot.
Wonderful place to be surrounded by beautiful scenery. So nice to be close to Boston yet feel like a world away. The boys love swimming, kayaking and using the rowboat in the pond. The cottage is clean and comfortable and a great retreat. It's a great place to decompress and have the kids enjoy some easy, outside-focused family time without distractions. It's like a family vacation families used to take! Easy drives to groceries and ice cream, yet the short drive gets you to desired isolation (or great hiking areas). Mary was there when needed but left the property to us to use as if it were our own. Overall, a really nice feel to the area and property and we felt rejuvenated. The kids really enjoyed the easy vacation, too.
Mary is the perfect host. She's not disturbing you but if you need any help, she's always present. We loved the little clean cottage and enjoyed the pond and the veggie garden.
Thanks a lot :)
Our family had a great week at the cottage. We all enjoyed the pond and our kids, 6 and 4, to this day are still talking about their swim buddy (Sonny, Mary's playful dog) and asking when we can go back. The cottage location was a great launch point for various adventures including Warren Falls, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and Burlington. We had a wonderful evening on a sunset cruise on Lake Champlain. Mary was very kind, patient and helpful during our stay. We prepared a majority of our meals either at the fire pit by the pond or on the grill at the cottage. The cottage we very nice and the kids loved their loft!
We are thrilled to have found this secluded and cozy cottage! My husband, 14-month daughter and I spent 4 nights here during the Mad Marathon weekend and the location was perfect for an easy race morning drive to the start – even more perfect to come back to your very own lake to swim and relax in post-race! The cottage had everything we needed for an at-home feeling while we spent the remainder of the trip hiking, swimming, playing with our daughter in the great backyard and also just spending some time relaxing. Mary is a gracious hostess who was always available when we needed anything – we will definitely return when our daughter is a little older and highly, highly recommend booking a stay here.
My girlfriend and I spent a long weekend here and loved this cottage. Mary is a gracious host and the house has everything you will need. The property is beautiful with mountain views and a crystal clear pond. We also loved the location of this cottage in central Vermont. Thank you Mary for being such a great host.
