Myrtle Beach Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Beach House Cottage, 3 or 4 Bedrm, 3 or 4 Baths, (Sleeps 6 to 8)

The Sea Unicorn, our spacious family home of 2000 sq ft, with its lovely balcony views, sits at the end of Ocean Boulevard on a half acre lot about 100 feet from the ocean on the west side of a cul-de-sac. Our Ocean Boulevard is only about a dozen or so lots long, cut off on the north end by the Myrtle Beach State Park, and on the south end by the Lake that comes from the park and flows in our back yard. The far south end of the lake flows into the ocean so the tidal brackish water, a mix of salt and fresh, supports a miriad of diverse life. You have to see this natural wonder to believe it.

The eighteen-hundred square feet of Non-Smoking, rental space on the lower level include three bedrooms with one king, two queen, 1 queen sofa-sleeper. You can bring single inflatable beds, more people is additional charge., . There's also a living/dining area about sixteen by thirty-five feet, a twelve foot by twenty-six foot fireplace room that can be closed off as another bedroom (air mattress), separate laundry room with beach toys and chairs, two full bathrooms, a third shower room, a half bathrm, and completely equipped Euro Cab kitchen. Wireless Internet access is provided.

The 2 east bedroom's, each with a glass block wall, and each with sliding glass doors, open up to the patio that faces the beach, and the fireplace room glass doors open to your private pool patio and the Lake in your huge back yard. +

All bedrooms have sliding glass doors, except one has single glass door.

The private 46 foot X 16 ft salt water pool features 4 pairs of built in seats, 2 with jets, and a kidney shaped spillover, a separate hot tub for relaxation in our beautiful back yard with fruit trees, Crepe Myrtles, and more. The 140 ft deep lawn stretches to our lake, and a rope swing hanging from the large oak tree that shades a picnic table Other extras include 2 row boats, paddle boat, grill, porch swings, kiddie slide, and a basketball net. It is like a little private park.

Pets are an extra $10/night plus an additional non-refundable deposit of $30. Owners must also provide proof of shots, and also proof of flea treatment. Pets are limited to the rec areas only (not allowed in bedrms), and not allowed on furniture.

You may bring your own linens, or we can provide you with linen service. Ask us about the check out cleaning service.

Long Bay Estates enjoys one of the widest beaches on the strand since we have no high rises for a couple of miles in either direction, and the State Park stretches for about one and a half miles along the coast. A walk up the beach takes you to the State Park Pier for fishing or ice cream, or walk a little further to Springmaid Pier for breakfast or lunch. If you prefer to walk only a few feet for fishing, you can surf fish on the beach or simply just walk in your own back yard to the Lake and fish for fresh and salt water crittters from the bank or from our private boats.

The Sea Unicorn is truly a unique family vacation of fun and privacy, yet still in the heart of the town, close to the excitement, There is no worry about who to call if there's a problem, since the owner lives upstairs on the north side of the property. Call soon, we book quickly.

About Jin

The Sea Unicorn has been our family home since 1978. It was a simple wooden beach house with an unfinished downstairs. Little by little, my parents added the porches, the fireplaces, laundry room, brick, greenhouse, garage, patios, flowers, trees. Hurricane Hugo tried to take it but the family home stood firm, even the greenhouse, well the frame anyway. Dad built it with 4x4's, notched, and huge 6' bolts, and poured concrete. Mom said, 'whats your father building now?'. 'A green house for you.' 'What with all those 4x4s and those huge bolts?' ''He said he wanted to make sure it was still here if a Hurricane blew through'. And so it did. The house lost the downstairs, most of the roof, and we had to gut the rest, but we built back with the same love and devotion, with updates, but in keeping with the character and nostalgia of our family memories. Our green row boat is the very boat my Dad purchased when he arrived and used himself for fishing. It ended up on the other side of the lake in Hurricane Hugo, but we found it and brought it home, and there it remains, in Daddy's spot by the Lake. We invite you to share the quiet, peaceful pleasure of our lake with its wildlife on one side, the sound and the feel of the ocean on the other, and a few minutes walk up one of the widest beaches in Myrtle, the State Park. We are sure you will enjoy our family home as much as we do.

Jin purchased this cottage in 1978

Why Jin chose Grand Strand - Myrtle Beach Area

We love our quiet, relaxing neighborhood. We feel we have everything; the ocean is to the front and the lake is on the back, the State park is at the end of the road.

Its our little piece of paradise, hidden from the mainstream, yet still centrally located to everything, restaurants, amusements, golf.

What makes this cottage unique

For years Long Bay Estates was called Myrtle Beach's best kept secret. This exclusive little neighborhood is small and secluded, hard to see from the main road, hidden in the trees , by the sea, and on a lake. Its peaceful, relaxing, remote feeling, yet close to everything.

And the half acre lot is large enough for games, sports, fun. It is your own little park.

Very HOMEY!!! Has a wonderful, welcoming vibe!!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I loved staying here!! Miss Janet and her husband we very gracious enough to allow not only my pets to come, but for me to have my wedding reception there!! I loved the home and the way it looked. It is not a swanky new place, it is a HOME, but for the price and the location it could not be beat!!! We loved being there and plan on going back!! Miss Janet and the home is awesome!!!

love it here

  • 5 of 5

My family has been coming to this location for a few years now. Jin is always sweet and works very hard to make things go smoothly. My children love coming here, enjoy the pool and always ask when are we going back. I have read other disappointed reviews but I will say that like any rental and any location things may go not as planned but Jin does everything in her power to accommodate, fix, and better a situation. We will always come back here and look forward to it every year!!!!!

Nice get-away for the price

  • 4 of 5

Long Bay Estates Unicorn is in a great location in Myrtle Beach. Booking was easily done by depositing directly into the owners account at TDBank. All information regarding the rental was given in detail on the contract pages that were mailed to us. The house is VERY clean with all the necessary amenities. It is a older home which we already knew. So if you are looking for a newer modern house rental keep on looking. The price reflects that it isn't a beach mansion that rents for 3 times the amount as others in the area. The beach access is close and opens to a very private part of the beach. The rooms are spacious and decorated nicely. Our daughter and family had the 3 bedrooms downstairs and my husband and I had the apartment upstairs which had its private entrance. Beds in the entire house are comfortable. While I read a previous review that was very negative, I feel that it wasn't fair for many reasons. Jin was available 24/7 with any questions or issues. The water from the downstairs air conditioner did drain in a large container out back but was flowing and not stagnant. We had no issues with the air conditioning. Although all units were window units they worked great keeping the temperature at times too chilly so we turned them down. The reason that it wasn't a 5 star from me was due to the pool issues as stated keeping from using the pool the first couple of days. However, an electrician was called out immediately and reported to us that it was safe to use after testing. Also a new transformer was being put in on the block which didn't interrupt our stay or have any affect on us but perhaps the next week when it was being tied in to the house may have been an issue but certainly not the owners fault. If the pool would have been out of service the entire week which it was not, the kids would still of had a great time with the boats out back on the lake and the two CLEAN working hot tubs and fishing from the lake on property. Although the owner lives on premises she never interfered and was very approachable even leaving her cell number with us. I want to add that we did not see one bug in the house the entire week. It is a huge house that requires detailed cleaning upon departure so I recommend using the cleaning fee. The house was immaculate upon arrival and the refrigerator was never an issue while we were there. I'm very fussy about food storage. Our family, like others have stated, will look forward to returning to the unicorn.

Disappointed

  • 1 of 5

Our family takes lots of time and effort to choose where to go on vacation together one week out of the year. We really thought we had found an ideal rental, but that was not the case. The owner already understands that we were dissatisfied because we had a face to face conversation. My general attitude is that Individuals who offer vacation rentals through enhancement of actual features and neglect to tell renters ahead of arrival that there are safety issues, should think long and hard about their responsibilities.

Although this owner was aware of grounding, electrical problems with both pool and hot tub she failed to mention it and let us discover the shocking issue ourselves. We could not use the hot tub at all and the spillover is just an old empty spa attached to the side of the pool. The pool edges and hot tub had active electrical current running through. Also, the pool lights had been disconnected so we were in the dark at night.

The house is in a good location, however the grounds and the house have not been kept up.

In addition, from a public health perspective, a rental advertised to accommodate this many people should not have a small refrigerator that cannot keep food stored at the proper temperatures.

One previous reviewer is correct in pointing out the improper use of extension cords.

Containers of stagnant water should not be left outside under dripping AC units to serve as breeding grounds for mosquitos.

Also, there is no AC in the main living area. The bedroom doors have to be left open so the small window AC units can try to compensate.

Still waiting for our deposit.

Owner's Response: This person had been under much strain, wanted perfection, and had the power off for 3 hours on Friday. I am truly sorry. I wish that didn't happen. However, this is not how my guests the week before or the week after felt, and not how the rest of this group felt. On the first day, one of the guests came up, said they loved the place, said there were many personalities in the group so if someone acted unhappy, the rest of them loved it, for me to not worry My electrician moved the pool light control away from the spillover because kids would play with buttons. When checking with his meter he found .1 to 1.7 volts in the dirt, even with All the power to the house shut off at meter base. The power Co. changed a transformer. After much back and forth, 5 electricians confirming problem on power co. side, an engineer, a call to governors office, CEO of power co, the service wire to the house was changed the next day. No charge in dirt when line was finally cut loose from house. There is Still a charge in the dirt in my neighbors yard next to pole at road, and the electric co is not concerned. This guest went to a power co. worker and asked them what it was, and the worker said I had a grounding problem. With my main service meter cut off? Who do you believe? I believe the 5 electricians. Guest were at beach when power was off, I asked this geust how the beach was and she blasted me, her alone. I apologized for inconvenience. The downstairs stays very cool, very well insulated. I asked the others if they were OK , they said great, said don't worry, things happen, they were fine. One guest called out to me to share in her excitement, she was just engaged, ran over, and showed off her lovely ring. Another, when I apologized again, said , no worries, you are doing all you can, and handed a business card to me, said when in town, come see us. The frig was never mentioned by anyone, not even this person. This is the first I hear about it. It is a standard size frig and works great. AC in all rooms, including back of house, which is blowing in lvg rm, all rooms have fans, upstairs has central FLP. No standing water, I have Aloe plants in large pot under the drips of the AC. The pond pump, new pool light were not in use while electric men were here, but there is a flood light for the pool that was used. Deposit not due for 8 days. Yard cut Every Sat by Proff who spray weeds. Grounds Are kept. This group lived at the pool all day long, having fun !

Birthday Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We took this week for my husband's 65th birthday. Jin was so open and forthcoming with all the information, answering all of our questions for 15 people. She has a beautiful, older home that is very well maintained and updated. It has all the amenities we could have wanted (and used). Very comfortable and homey. The ocean is close enough for us older folks to walk to and enjoy. Her home is close enough to everything to be convenient, yet quiet and very private. The backyard has the pool, hot tub, swing, plenty of seating with plenty of space. At the end of the yard is a lake with a dock, peddle paddle boat, row boat which provided plenty of fishing for young and old alike. We are so happy to have found such a wonderful lady that shared her home with all of us. The only problem was, that we didnt have more time to stay longer... so we just have to book it for 2016.

Many thanks to Jin,

Becky and Ed

About 2 miles up the Hwy 17 is Radical Ropes. Broadway at the Beach is about 5 miles.

The Myrtle Beach State Park is a walk up the beach where nothing but nature touches the sea, and our neighborhood.

We are close to so much , yet hidden from chaos and traffic, nessled quietly among the trees, on the lake, by the ocean. We are our own little park.
