Built in 2004, on the site of our family-owned summer “Cottage,” formerly known as Palmetto Lodge(1932-65), Palmetto Beach Rental is now being offered to other families to enjoy for their vacations on this beloved, 3-acre beachfront property. There is a creek on the west side.
The 1700 sq ft apartment is in the walkout lower level of this newly built home with the upper level occupied by the owners. As shown in the photos, spectacular views of Lake Erie accompany the many sliding glass doors & windows in the apartment.
The “Garden Bedroom” with 2 double beds, has sliding glass doors opening on to a covered patio.
The King-bed “Lake Room” has a large window & sliding glass doors opening onto a covered patio.
The two “Bunk Rooms” each have 3 twin beds.
An extensive 300’ long sandy swim beach on Lake Erie is unique to this area and the privacy created by the enclosing vegetation offers seclusion for your family's exclusive use. Escape the day-to-day routine of the world, and come to rest & renew by being so close to God’s magnificent creation. Endless opportunities to play together are afforded as noted in the numerous amenities & activities, along with plenty of space to be alone for life’s much needed quiet time. Partake of the unique beach / Lake ambience; savor glorious sunsets as generations of families before have done from anywhere on the property: the white antique iron bench, the extensive 12’ x 80’ deck, a small beach fire while swimming; AND gathering to sing “Day is Done” -- a “Cottage Blessing.”

Keith & Karen are native Buckeyes as Karen grew up in Geneva, with 2 sisters who remained in the area; and Keith in Akron, with 2 brothers. Having met at Kent State University, they will celebrate their 49th Anniversary in August, 2016. Most of that time they lived in & out of Colorado where they raised their 3 sons who encouraged their Mom & Dad to retire at the site of their family-owned summer “Cottage,” formerly known as “Palmetto Lodge” (1932-65). It was purchased with Karen’s parents in 1979.
Keith & Karen Byerley purchased this apartment in 2004
In 2004, the new “Cottage” was built along with a 200’ limestone lake revetment, giving the next generation a family legacy to enjoy on this beloved 3-acre beachfront property. Keith & Karen have 6 grandchildren and Karen’s sisters have 8 grandchildren who all enjoy their visits to the “Cottage.” In 2009, they opened the walk out apartment in the lower level of their home to summer guests by starting Palmetto Beach Rental.

We were excited to find this location to celebrate a 40th and 50th birthday. The location was beautiful and the weather was wonderful. The house worked out perfectly for our group of 9. The private beach was awesome. We enjoyed having a beach fire and relaxing. There was a festival going on downtown but we couldn't tear ourselves away from the beach to go. The owners were very nice and accommodating! Great weekend getaway!
Just had our third stay here and as expected was absolutely pleased and thrilled to have found this wonderful home. Fortunately for us the weather was awesome as well as the beach. The lake was very calm and the water especially clear. The sunsets were stunning against our fire pit as we enjoyed hotdogs and smores with all our little ones. We couldn't have asked for a better time. A special thank you to both Karen and Keith for again opening up their home to us. We are so grateful. Looking forward to a fourth visit next July
This location was perfect for a family vacation for three adult siblings and a teenage son (with room for many more). It is a large, home-y & comfortable, clean space with everything we needed. The private beach was great for wading/swimming (a bit cold), and hunting smoothed stones and beach glass daily; we also cooked s'mores over a beach fire at night. My son loved "driving" us to/from the beach in the golf cart though the beach was steps away. We enjoyed beautiful views from the porch and front lawn, especially at sunset, and/or just sitting looking out on the water and reading a book. The house is just a few minutes drive into town and Geneva State Park (bike and walking trails, kayaks/paddleboard rentals, marina), and about 15 minutes from a number of wineries (we liked Grand River, Debonne, Ferrante) which made for some nice wine tastings and dining out. The owners were very kind and accessible if we needed anything. We would definitely return, possibly even more in our group!
We had truly an amazing and perfect stay at Keith and Karen's beautiful property last summer! I shared the space with my two sisters, and we all have families with young kids. Everybody loved the wide-open lawn, the private beach, the golf cart, and the small bonfire we made. The toys were a big bonus to keep all the little ones busy on the rain days. The indoors were spacious and comfortable. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect place for a family reunion, and for more gracious and welcoming hosts! You can tell that Keith and Karen take pride in their property and want only the best experience for their guests.
This past September the women in our family wanted to have a get away weekend to celebrate my niece's bachelorette party and spend some quality time together. From the moment I saw this rental I was amazed at how perfect this wonderful place was for our week end . The pictures don' t even nearly do it justice . It is absolutely beautiful , the Views, the beach, the sunsets. The rooms were comfortable, very clean , and provided plenty of space to accomodate our group of 12. Karen and Keith are wonderful and very gracious hosts, they made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. Needless to say we had a marvelous time. We cooked, we sang, we danced , we shared stories and laughed, we celebrated and had a wonderful weekend . We had a perfect weather week end as well and our claim to fame was that we actually all got to swim in Lake Erie on September 27th! We had so much fun all three generations of us, that we have already booked for next year for our second annual Girls weekend. Thanks Keith and Karen you made our time so special. Hope you are enjoying your travels this winter, and that all is going well with you and your family. Sorry this took so long. See you in September!
This past summer our family enjoyed another wonderful week at Keith and Karen's "cottage". As I had had earlier posted from 2014 it truly is the perfect vacation spot. The grounds are in perfect condition providing all the room you would need. Having your own private beach makes it all the better. Our grandchildren have an absolute blast while we are there and we are hoping to make this an annual trip for us. You can't go wrong with this place. It truly is a special spot and I'm so glad we found it. You will be too!
