Originally named Kelly Cottage, Frank D. Marshall built the house in 1913. During the boom of 1880-1890, many summer mansions and cottages were built in York Harbor while the town joined Newport and Bar Harbor as fashionable East Coast summer destinations.
I have an eye for quality, cleanliness, design and detail which is evident in our rental home.
Laura Barr purchased this house in 2009
We've enjoyed family vacations in this area for many years. The house has been in the family since 1949! Being so close to one of the most beautiful pristine beaches we've ever encountered is truly a marvelous treasure. The Maine air is crisp and the Atlantic ocean clear. Whatever the season, there's always so much to enjoy in the area. York Harbor has been a destination, particularly in the summer, since the late 1800's. It's easy to understand why.
A unique benefit our our home is being so close to the beach and yet being on a quiet side street away from the hustle and bustle. Also, being able to walk to the beach and not having to get in the car and park, is ideal. Spectacular natural beauty and restaurants, within walking distance, are wonderful, too.

We are a large family that gets together for a week long summer vacation every year. It is difficult to find a house to comfortably fit us all. Orchard Cottage was a perfect fit. We had a wonderful stay. The house is beautiful and very well kept. Everyone loved the many rooms and the large well equipped kitchen. Eating dinner together at the dining room table was a huge plus. We loved the short walk to the beach and swimming in the ocean. The Cliff Walk and the walk to Wiggley Bridge were fun for all. Should the family decide on another trip to Maine we would definitely stay again.
I hosted a family vacation with our children and their children whom are all under 4 years old. This home could not have been more perfect. Very spacious, immaculate and had most everything we needed. With all of the children we very much appreciated the fenced yard so all could run and have fun and the fact that this is an older home with doors between rooms we could corral them as well. With the kids in mind the beach which is about a block away was gorgeous! Very gradual incline and gentle waves, super fun! I highly recommend this home for families with small children!
The house was perfect for our needs. We hosted my daughter and two sons with their children and spouses and my grand daughter's Aunt,Uncle and Cousin. The house with its 8 bed rooms and 5 bath rooms fit our various family units well. York is an ideal location with more than enough to do for all ages.
Our extended family (10 people) celebrated 2015 Christmas at Orchard Cottage. Within minutes of our arrival, we felt at home. The spotless house is both roomy and cozy. The kitchen is well laid out and had everything we needed to make big holiday meals for our crowd. The bedrooms are charming and bright. We loved staying here and would go again in a heartbeat.
Great property, perfect location, well appointed, clean, well maintained, no complaints!
Used house for 10 adults in town for a wedding. Definitely would rent again!
The house was super clean and easy to find. Right across the from a great beach, and close to town. The house was great for our extended family of 15 - 8 adults and 7 kids. The kids loved playing in the yard, lounging on the hammock and with all of the outdoor toys supplied - croquet, horseshoes... the outdoor seating was lovely for evening cocktails and made eating lobster dinner carefree and easy cleanup. Kitchen is very well equipped and easy to maneuver around. We especially liked the photos inside the cabinets reminding you where everything belongs! Thank you!!
Wonderful location affords privacy and fenced in yard on a dead end street, at the same time being just a few minutes walk to the York Harbor Beach and Atlantic Ocean.
