About Laura Barr

I have an eye for quality, cleanliness, design and detail, which is evident in our rental home. Having rented homes myself, I understand what makes a comfortable rental.

I grew up visiting this house and York Harbor, Maine and am so happy to now own it. It is a magical place.

Laura Barr purchased this house in 2009

Why Laura Barr chose York Harbor

We've enjoyed family vacations in this area for many years. The house has been in the family since 1949! Being so close to one of the most beautiful pristine beaches we've ever encountered is truly a marvelous treasure. The Maine air is crisp and the Atlantic ocean clear. Whatever the season, there's always so much to enjoy in the area. York Harbor has been a destination, particularly in the summer, since the late 1800's. It's easy to understand why.

What makes this house unique

A unique benefit our our spacious home is being so close to the beach and yet being on a quiet side street away from the hustle and bustle. Also, being able to walk to the beach and not having to get in the car and park, is ideal. Spectacular natural beauty and restaurants, within walking distance, are wonderful, too.

Great house, location and amenities

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a wonderful week at Orchard Cottage! Our group consisted of parents, grandparents and a toddler, and everyone had a great time!

LOCATION: the house is a quick walk to the beach, no need to load up the car with sandy beach toys and chairs. Also makes it easy to go to the beach in the morning, and then return again in the late afternoon. Restaurants are a short car ride away in York.

HOUSE: this was by far the biggest house we have ever stayed in. There was ample room for everyone and it never felt crowded. There was a third floor of bedrooms that we didn't even use! The house has a wonderful front porch, ample kitchen, and a wet bar area which we put to good use. Perhaps our favorite part of the house was the outdoor patio area, where we had lunch and cocktails each day.

AMENITIES: the house pretty much has everything you'll need for your vacation to be comfortable. Laura the owner will suggest you bring your own beach towels. And should we go again, we would probably bring a few extra shower towels along too (every bathroom is equipped with towels, but in case you like to use multiple, I would bring some additional). The garage has beach chairs and beach toys to help make beach days fun and relaxing. The kitchen is stocked with everything you could think of.

Laura checked in after we arrived, and was always in contact both before and during the trip should we have any questions.

The house is only a short 20 minute drive to Portsmouth, and we spent a day there walking around, and had a tasty lunch at Row 34. We also enjoyed a few meals on the deck at Chapman Cottage, which is just a 1/2 mile from the house. We also grabbed lobsters one night from Off the Boat Lobsters right down the road in York, where they steam them for you so you're ready to go.

We had a great time!

The house is gorgeous and in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the house with five kids and five adults there was plenty of room to spread out. The outside area it was perfect for the kids to run around and play. The short walk to the beach was also perfect. York harbor is small quiet area of York and our family really enjoyed that, but was a quick ride down to York for amusement parks shopping and a little more excitement. The small beach at York Harbor was perfect not crowded very relaxing and perfect!

Great property for extended family to get together

  • 5 of 5

Nice large house with spaces for everyone to get together, as well as quiet places to have some alone time with a book. It is a beautiful, well-maintained house in a quiet neighborhood and just a short walk to the beach. Our extended family of 13 loved the house as well as the surrounding area, where we chartered a fishing boat one day, went to a local place for lobster another, and spent time on the beach on other days. Everything we needed to cook meals was in the kitchen, and we were able to all eat together in the dining room.

The owner was also helpful and communicative. I recommend this house for large groups.

Spacious, warm and perfectly located!

  • 5 of 5

My family descended on Laura's home from NYC, Boston, Ft Lauderdale, Cincinnati and Louisville for a week of relaxation and togetherness. We had an incredible stay. Laura's home is spacious, well equipped, perfectly suited for families (we had four kiddos), and in an ideal location with the beach across the street! There was plenty of space to lounge both in the house and outside. We survived two VERY unusually hot days in Maine with fans and the natural AC coming off the ocean. The porch and yard are perfect spots to relax and drink coffee while the kids played bocce ball. I HIGHLY recommend this rental for anyone who wants to slow down and experience the real Maine lifestyle. Laura was great to work with. We will definitely be back!
