Quoted from our house guestbook: "The house is a beautiful vintage Hawaii home with all the amenties, very clean. The cool breeze is constant and welcome in the summer heat. We enjoyed our stay very much. Some bicycles would be a plus."
This house was amazing! We had a group of 7 ranging from 2-65, and we all had a great time! The view in the mornings is second to none. Coffee on the beach every morning at 6:30a to watch the sunrise! Waves were good for body boarding, and every piece of outdoor equipment is provided. Kids loved the pool after beach time. Adults loved the hot tub at the end of the day. The house itself is perfect and screams classic Hawaii. The room with the twin beds is attached to a bedroom with a king bed, it was perfect to put our babies (2 and 3 years old) in. The location is great, right on the beach, but 5 minutes drive to the grocery store and shopping. Can't wait to come back! Truly paradise. The photos don't do this house justice of the beauty.
We love this house. We've visited 3 times with 2 and then 3 kids with grandparents. Great for families with small kids who need naps and older kids who can swim. Well kept, clean and great amenities. Great beach access, yard, grill, hot tub, pool and lanai. We'll be back for sure. And, Uta is a superb property manager.
Our group of 5 ranged in age from 18-72. The house is set up so that the bedrooms are separated by an enormous living room. The beds were comfy, the linens high-quality. The house was built in the 40's and maintains the character of that era. The home is very tastefully decorated and all kitchen supplies are great (not cheap stuff). There is a full freezer (but bring ice as the ice maker can't keep up) and full fridge. The home comes with bogie boards (we all tried this fun sport-great for all ages), surf boards, beach umbrellas and chairs, tons of beach towels, a cooler, and some lawn games. The garage fits 2 cars.
Each of the 3 bedrooms has its own bathroom and the dining room is giant-great for sit-down meals. There are 2 grills, 2 outdoor showers, a hot tub, and beautiful pool. We dipped in that after the beach every evening.
We had some issues with a toilet, and Uta was right there to fix it. She is AMAZING! We arrived to a gift basket of goodies, as well as a call insuring she'd be available to help us with anything. Anytime I contacted her, she was quick with a friendly response (I couldn't find the washing machine which was outside by the pool).
Each morning we were greeted by a chicken family while we had coffee on the porch. We then walked across the soft lawn and 15 feet down the path to the powdery sand. The beach was a bit crowded, but that's what you get at one of the top beaches n the world. No snorkeling here, but Lanikai is a 5 minute drive and PERFECT. Kailua is great for swimming, boarding, sunning, people-watching, etc.
We hit Costco on the way in order to stock up, but there are grocery stores near by. There are also snorkel gear rental places.
I'd go back in a heartbeat.
This was a geogeous well kept home. Look out the front patio doors to the perfect beach and ocean only 50 steps away. The pool and hotub out back was well used by our children. The house manager was very professional throughout making sure we had all the information we needed before we left home, and when we arrived a phone call asking us how things were and encouraging us to make good use of the information book that gave all the best local information for grocery stores and restaurants etc. There was even a nice welcome basket of goodies waiting for us. Thanks so much for the wonderful family memories made here. We will be back for sure
This house was absolutely perfect. Large enough to sleep eight people comfortably; with a pool and hot tub; a nice front porch and front yard, and a barbecure area from which you can look directly onto the beach; and, of coruse, it's on the best beach on Oahu, perfect for families and kids. It has beach towels, boogie boards, umbrellas, and eveything else you might need to bring to the beach. And as an added plus, Uta is extremely friendly and helpful. We can wait to come back!
Our group of 7 adults traveled from LA to Kailua for our friend's 50th birthday celebration. We researched and researched rental homes as we were determined to have an "epic" stay. Well, Kalaka on the Beach certainly is epic! It has a beautiful layout with a central gathering space that opens out to the lanai, surrounded by three en suite bedrooms. An additional set of twin beds is in a little room off the master bedroom (although there is only a shoji screen for a little privacy). I was concerned that the photos on the web might make the home look bigger than it is, but I was pleasantly surprised. Kalaka on the Beach is VERY spacious--in fact, we nicknamed her "the mansion." In addition, you are literally steps away from the beach. The kitchen is well-equipped and even has an extra small refrigerator to get those adult beverages really cold. Beach towels, outdoor chairs, boogie boards, and sun screen are all provided at no extra cost. It was a fun little bonus that President Obama and his family were staying a mere 1.6 miles up the beach. We walked up most evenings, nodded "hi" to the Coast Guards on duty, and strolled back to our home away from home. The manager, Uta, is a gem and made everything easy. Highly recommended!
