About The Owner

I am a Canadian who purchased this lovely property after falling in love with the Los Barriles, East Cape area. Attempting to retire to the area in the future, in the meantime I visit whenever possible and wish to share our beautiful new home with family, friends, and anyone who wishes to experience Los Barriles life.

The Owner purchased this house in 2009

Why The Owner chose Los Barriles

We were seeking a quiet town near enough to the airport, excitement of Cabo San Lucas yet far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the typical tourist experience. The town culture of both Mexican and Gringo influences mixing together appealed to us rather than a gated community style found in other resort areas. The area seemed to be lost in time, and the ATV transportation means to get groceries and supplies is a 'fun' way to live and vacation! The wide beaches of white sand was really appealing and surprising to us as we spent most of our time in the Mayan Riviera area in the past. The white sand and Caribbean waters there are very nice but you can't walk the miles and miles that you can in the East Cape area.

What makes this house unique

The wide white sand beach and ocean are just to the right corner of the house and directly next to us is an old Arroyo river bed where beautiful and unique trees and cactus grow with beautiful flowers. It is a great place for walking and exploring. We are at the end of a cul de sac so there is no traffic or noise, except for the ocean of course! It is great fun taking an ATV the short distance into town and getting groceries or whatever we need and ride back with the wind in our hair!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Beauty, tranquility, natural wonders. Los Barriles on Baja's East Cape is where the desert meets the sea. It is a small & quiet town inhabited by many expats & local Mexicans - all with smiling faces.

Casa Agave is located in a beautiful setting a few miles north of the small town center. You will need a car to get around. Gorgeous upstairs master bed & bath with a patio that has "to die for" views out over the Sea of Cortez. We watched whales migrating & the most beautiful sunrise & sunsets from this deck. The main floor is open & large comprising the kitchen, dining & living room areas. Plenty of sitting space at the table & in the living room. The entire outside wall is probably 30 ft of sliding glass doors opening onto the outside terrace with views of the sea. The 2nd & 3rd bedrooms are just steps out onto the veranda in their own separate building with a shared bath. The beds are super comfortable, great linens & towels, very functional kitchen & a nice outside BBQ. Internet service in the house & some limited T.V. & over 150 DVD's to watch. 2 sea kayaks, beach umbrella & towels, good snorkeling at the beach and the pool at the hotel in town are all available for guests to use. We used it all! We were a group where the youngest was 4, the oldest 82.

Come here to marvel at the passing whales, experience dolphins & manta rays jumping near your sea kayak, catch world class fish, eat great local foods, visit waterfalls & hot springs, or even venture into Cabo for the night life & shopping. Plan to visit during the January International Kite Boarding competition or in February for the Baja 300. Fly into the airport in San Jose del Cabo. Rent a car & drive north about 1 hr - you might want to stop at Costco to stock up on supplies first if desired.

Be sure to visit Verdugo's to sit in a rocking chair overlooking the water while sipping a killer margarita. Then walk over to Smoky's for some of the best Hamachi or Yellowtail fish & chips ever. There are several other good places to eat in town as well. Lots of great Mexican food. Also a well stocked market if you prefer to eat in. Also banks & ATM machines in town.

Kathinka with Wolf Property Management in Los Barriles is great. She has everything ready for you when you arrive & escorts you to the house to get you oriented. When we had an Internet & T.V. problem, she responded right away to fix it. They can help you plan outings, rental cars, etc.

Great spot for snorkeling and kite surfing

  • 5 of 5

As an avid kite surfer I loved this spot. Really close to the beach and good snorkeling and atv access when the wind wasn't blowing. My in-laws are big-time foodies and they loved cooking in the spacious kitchen

Our most relaxing trip in awhile.

  • 5 of 5

We booked a bit last minute and weren’t sure what to expect as my partner and I had never travelled to this part of Mexico before. It was the most relaxing trip we’ve had in a long time. Everything was taken care of and we could tell thought was put into making sure we were comfortable. The host guide book was very helpful and we highly recommend taking walks on the beach early before it gets too hot. Thank you Leigh-Anne and the Cameron family for hosting us in your fabulous house. We’ll certainly be coming back again.

Wish it were mine!!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I along with friends spent about 18 days in this comfortable home. We love everything about Los Barriles and have rented several properties over the years and this home is surely at the top of our list.

Loved the separate guest quarters so that everyone enjoyed privacy and yet came together to prepare meals and relax. Spent every morning doing yoga on the patio or upstairs deck at sunrise. I don't think it could get any better sleeping to the sounds of the sea! We saw quite a few whales from the patio.

We all enjoyed the used of the kayaks, the grill & firepit. Love your home so much we wish it were our own.

thank you for sharing with us, hope to see you in 2017

Relaxing and rejuvenating

  • 4 of 5

Great area to stay.....close enough to town, yet far enough out of town. Kayaking and water where wonderful. The property has everything you need along with the great views. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there and hope to return again. Los Barriles is a charming town with great restaurants...though cooking at the home is just as nice.

You are going to love this place!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed with another couple at the end of October. It is a great time to visit the East Cape. It would work great for 3 couples as well. We drank coffee and watched the sunrise every morning from the upstairs deck, which has a great view of the Bahia de Las Palmas. The house is beautiful and well furnished. My wife s a gourmet cook and the kitchen is well stocked.

We like to snorkel and the beach at the house had lots to see. I had a school of about 500 Jack Crevalle swimming in a circle around me for a few minutes, it was surreal. We also watched a coronet fish turn from silver green to his brown striped cammo. The snorkeling gets even better as you head north towards Punta Pescadero. We used the kayaks everyday. I like to inshore fish and I caught Ladyfish, Green Jack's, Trigger Fish, Jack Crevalle and Giant Needle Fish all within 200 yards of shore and within a mile from the house.

The house is adjacent to an Arroyo which yields a good view to the water. It also brings in a lot of birds and pollinators which we enjoyed watching. The local conservation group released about 300 to 400 newly hatched Green Ridley's Turtles, which we watched make the trek to the water.

Make sure to hit the taco stand in town, they are open 2 nights a week. Check for the schedule with the locals.

We have rented in Los Barriles 6 times now with VRBO and we loved this place best of all.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay - I am sorry I didn't respond sooner but I didn't see your review! Glad you enjoyed the snorkelling - I have barely done any this year but did get my dream of swimming with the Whale Sharks so that was a bonus this year. Hope to see you back again next year - love to have you visit again and we offer return guests discount too!
