Step from your car and take a breath of cool mountain air. Hard to believe you’re 28 miles from Charlottesville, eighty-nine miles from Washington. The edge of the wild, this land borders Shenandoah National Forest, the most populous black bear country on the East Coast, with stunning views of the Blue Ridge mountains and the tiny, picturesque community of Graves Mill in the valley below. If you prefer hiking mountain trails, fishing a trout stream or sipping a drink on the wide two-story porch, this is the spot. Wintering in? Let it snow. The whole-house generator automatically keeps things cozy in the event of power outage. Add a steam sauna, two-person Jacuzzi with a view, Rumford fireplace in the Great Room and winter becomes a dreamer's paradise. Springtime brings Mountain Laurel and eagles. Summer offers cool relief from the flatlands. Then comes Autumn, a season you have to truly see to believe.

Recently, my wife and I and three other couples stayed at this beautiful home! The place was incredibly breathtaking with the mountain views. The interior was very clean and was very well built. I met the owner and he was very courteous, helpful and polite. He actually designed the place himself, and he did a wonderful job!
People in our group especially liked the fireplace, the rain shower, the sauna, and the amazing rooms (especially the master bedroom and the cottage adjacent to the house). You know you're staying at a great place when you and your friends start talking about returning the following year. We loved the place and recommend it to anybody looking for a relaxing getaway, whether it's with your family or a group of friends.
Strongly recommend this property for mountain lovers. The property is idea for family vacation. It's a quiet, beautiful, and soul refreshing place. My parents' friends who visited USA for the very first time were stunished by the great house and the beautiful nature. We were also pleased by everything the property provided. It made our week-long vacation memorable.
My friends and I had the best time staying here! The house was beautiful and had everything we needed. It was a short drive from the wineries we visited and the restaurant we ate dinner at. We all wished we could have stayed longer than two nights but we enjoyed every minute. We're already thinking about a trip back!
This is our third stay at the house and we really love it! The home is well appointed, well-maintained, has all the amenities, and a well-supplied kitchen. The house was decorated lightly for Christmas, which was lovely. It's a great house for larger groups, with options when the weather calls for cozy indoor entertainment (TV room with movies and games), game room upstairs, lounging decks, etc.) but has an outdoor firepit and big, well-maintained yard to be outside, plus hiking options nearby. This is house is more of retreat since it's not near a large town. We found it a perfect sanctuary for our family getaway.
The only major downside is a fireplace with very poor draw (and a strong downdraft) so we had smoke challenges the whole visit.
Be aware the driveway into and out of the property is extremely steep and would be very dangerous in snow/ice and bathrooms are shared except for the guest cottage. But everything is beautifully done.
Our group of 10 had the best time. The house had more than enough room for everyone plus a large kitchen. Jon & Joan were welcoming and gave us a full tour of the property before they handed over the keys, which was very helpful! We will be renting from them again!
Our expectations were exceeded! The home and location were perfect. Beautiful area and a very functional home that was amazing. Windows with beautiful light and scenery wherever you looked. Can't say enough about how much fun our family had in this wonderful home. The owner was so helpful with providing information about the area and details of the home. The home decor, especially the pictures were chosen with thought....we genuinely enjoyed our surroundings. The books, games, sauna and Jacuzzi were so great for the entire family.
The property is located about a mile from Graves Mill, VA and is just off of Bluff Mountain Road, bordering on the Shenanndoah National Park. The area is lovely and unspoiled, very scenic, with easy and close access to the Rapidan and Conway Rivers as well as Graves Mill hiking trail.
Other Activities: Antiquing, music festivals, seasonal festivals, historic sites, mountain trail hiking, trout fishing, swimming, rafting, canoeing.
