Step from your car and take a breath of cool mountain air. Hard to believe you’re 28 miles from Charlottesville, eighty-nine miles from Washington. The edge of the wild, this land borders Shenandoah National Forest, the most populous black bear country on the East Coast, with stunning views of the Blue Ridge mountains and the tiny, picturesque community of Graves Mill in the valley below. If you prefer hiking mountain trails, fishing a trout stream or sipping a drink on the wide two-story porch, this is the spot. Wintering in? Let it snow. The whole-house generator automatically keeps things cozy in the event of power outage. Add a steam sauna, two-person Jacuzzi with a view, Rumford fireplace in the Great Room and winter becomes a dreamer's paradise. Springtime brings Mountain Laurel and eagles. Summer offers cool relief from the flatlands. Then comes Autumn, a season you have to truly see to believe.

Recently, my wife and I and three other couples stayed at this beautiful home! The place was incredibly breathtaking with the mountain views. The interior was very clean and was very well built. I met the owner and he was very courteous, helpful and polite. He actually designed the place himself, and he did a wonderful job!
People in our group especially liked the fireplace, the rain shower, the sauna, and the amazing rooms (especially the master bedroom and the cottage adjacent to the house). You know you're staying at a great place when you and your friends start talking about returning the following year. We loved the place and recommend it to anybody looking for a relaxing getaway, whether it's with your family or a group of friends.
this was a wonderful place for our family thanksgiving. all systems worked and all gear new and clean. would stay again with out hesitation. Owner was extremely helpful.
This is our third stay at this great family retreat. As with our other stays, we visited Graves Mill with another family, enjoyed the Rapidan Nature area and Early Moutnain Vineyards. Great home, well appointed. Thanks John.
Eight of us (4 couples) spend an annual wine weekend at this house. Ample space, gourmet kitchen, and beautiful fireplace--we love them all. We spent much of our time touring the local area, but we liked the house (and cottage) so much that we wanted to return from our ventures early on both days so that we could enjoy ourselves in the house. Perfect for entertaining. Many thanks to John for helping us find the place the day of travel!!
Very well designed house that accommodated my family perfectly. The house was clean and well equipped with dishes and kitchen supplies (we did have to buy pepper that we left there). The area is beautiful with hiking nearby. We enjoyed a leisurely hike with grandkids along the Rapidan River. The nearby wineries were also very enjoyable with excellent wines to taste. We could have used a couple more days there but maybe next time.
The property is located about a mile from Graves Mill, VA and is just off of Bluff Mountain Road, bordering on the Shenanndoah National Park. The area is lovely and unspoiled, very scenic, with easy and close access to the Rapidan and Conway Rivers as well as Graves Mill hiking trail.
Other Activities: Antiquing, music festivals, seasonal festivals, historic sites, mountain trail hiking, trout fishing, swimming, rafting, canoeing.
