Step from your car and take a breath of cool mountain air. Hard to believe you’re 28 miles from Charlottesville, eighty-nine miles from Washington. The edge of the wild, this land borders Shenandoah National Forest, the most populous black bear country on the East Coast, with stunning views of the Blue Ridge mountains and the tiny, picturesque community of Graves Mill in the valley below. If you prefer hiking mountain trails, fishing a trout stream or sipping a drink on the wide two-story porch, this is the spot. Wintering in? Let it snow. The whole-house generator automatically keeps things cozy in the event of power outage. Add a steam sauna, two-person Jacuzzi with a view, Rumford fireplace in the Great Room and winter becomes a dreamer's paradise. Springtime brings Mountain Laurel and eagles. Summer offers cool relief from the flatlands. Then comes Autumn, a season you have to truly see to believe.

Recently, my wife and I and three other couples stayed at this beautiful home! The place was incredibly breathtaking with the mountain views. The interior was very clean and was very well built. I met the owner and he was very courteous, helpful and polite. He actually designed the place himself, and he did a wonderful job!
People in our group especially liked the fireplace, the rain shower, the sauna, and the amazing rooms (especially the master bedroom and the cottage adjacent to the house). You know you're staying at a great place when you and your friends start talking about returning the following year. We loved the place and recommend it to anybody looking for a relaxing getaway, whether it's with your family or a group of friends.
This was my second time spending a girls getaway weekend at this property. We love the location to hiking and outdoor activities not to mention the close by vineyards. Plenty of bed and bathroom space and a great kitchen for healthy cooking lessons. Will recommend highly!
My friends and I just stayed here for the weekend and were blown away by the house and the location! The photos on this website don't do it justice! The house is in immaculate condition. The kitchen is great, the living room is huge, the bathrooms are awesome, and the bedrooms are well appointed and had plenty of space for our 8 guests... everything was better than described. We especially enjoyed the steam room / shower combination after long days of hiking =) I spoke with Joan through email several times while planning our weekend and her responses were always quick, friendly, and super informative. We ended up doing Skyline drive (a short, scenic drive away) and it was amazing. We hiked a trail recommended by them - the Graves Mill Trail to a swimming hole and it was beautiful. The drive up to the house is through rolling farmlands and really took everyone's breath away. I definitely recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in the area!
This was my second time renting this property. The house is amazing . The view is
lovely whether it's sunrise in the morning or star gazing at night. The peace and quiet and sound of only crickets at night is pure heaven on earth. The house is fully equipped, spacious yet cozy. Wish I could afford to go every weekend!
This is a wonderful and secluded home perfect for multiple family retreats/reunions. This was our second stay at this well appointed mountain house, and our boys spent plenty of time playing ping-pong and foosball on the third floor. We also traveled the mile or so to the Rapidan River for great hiking and several swimming holes/playing in the water. The adults enjoyed quiet time on the porches and on walks, plus we traveled to Early Mountain and DuCard Vineyards to sample local wine. We would unreservedly recommend this property and hope to return.
The owners are very thoughtful and were helpful in addressing a request regarding the DirecTV. They provide detailed information and suggestions for local attractions/restaurants/shopping.
A group of friends got together for a long weekend here and it was perfect. The house had plenty of room and was very clean. We couldn't have asked for anything better!
The property is located about a mile from Graves Mill, VA and is just off of Bluff Mountain Road, bordering on the Shenanndoah National Park. The area is lovely and unspoiled, very scenic, with easy and close access to the Rapidan and Conway Rivers as well as Graves Mill hiking trail.
Other Activities: Antiquing, music festivals, seasonal festivals, historic sites, mountain trail hiking, trout fishing, swimming, rafting, canoeing.
