About The Owner

Tim and Brenda Messick served as contractor and built their dream home in 2009 after searching multiple states for the perfect mountain lake accessible to Atlanta where they reside. They have two daughters and a beloved dog, Ralph, who love to escape to the mountains as often as they can.

Why The Owner chose Lake Nantahala

After spending the day with a local realtor, the Messicks knew that they wanted to purchase property on Lake Nantahala as no other lake compared in beauty and tranquility. For the next several years, they worked toward the goal of building a home where they could make lasting memories and spend quality family time with their children and friends.

If your jaw drops in the forest ...

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at the Messick's home in order to peacefully ring in the New Year and get some R&R! I researched for something that could comfortably accommodate our large family and this did not disappoint. The pictures are pretty and accurate, but to open the front door and be there in person is definitely a "wow" moment. It is such a beautifully appointed home inside. Also, to be on the deck and look down at the water below is peaceful and beautiful. It was wonderful to only hear wind rustling through the trees. The living area is very well spaced out. There was room for everyone. Summers here must be amazing!

The property is about 30 minutes, door to door, just outside of Andrews, NC on Lake Nantahala. We made a few trips to the Ingles Supermarket to stock up. The drive was mostly on paved road except for about the last 7 minutes close to the cabin. We had no snow and some rain, but I found no problem driving back and forth with a 2 wheel drive Nissan Rogue rental.

There is an Animal Preserve about 10 minutes from the home that children may enjoy (ours did). Andrews Brewing Company is just outside of the town and the adults may enjoy that (we did). Andrews, NC is quaint. We drove about 40 minutes from the home and visited Murphy, NC. Cute town! Nice people! We stopped in at The Daily Grind and Wine and were invited to celebrate Dublin's New Year early. We're glad we stopped in. It was a really nice time. The above mentioned Preserve has a trout pond and there is another close by as well.

Brenda and Tim are wonderful people. My hat is off to them for opening up their home and sharing it with us. They are generous and their priority was that we had a great time, and we did. It is a gorgeous home! Everything from booking, to payment, to enjoyment went smoothly. We only had two tiny hiccups while we were there and that was simply due to our misunderstanding of operation. Tim was quick to explain and resolve it. One was with the usage of the outside gas grill which we ended up making some ribs on. The second, the upstairs bathroom and Master bath have water dials that turn on counter-clockwise instead of clockwise, so that simply means that hot is still on the right and the cold is on the left.

If you are looking for a spacious, beautiful, comfortable property on the water where you can relax then this is your place. If you are fortunate enough to book it you will so enjoy it! We did. Thank you Brenda and Tim!

Beautiful Lakefront Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family just returned from staying a week at this gorgeous home. The home itself was spacious and gorgeously decorated. The kitchen was stocked with spices and every cooking utensil imaginable (even a vegetable juicer). But we can't stop thinking about that gorgeous. pristine lake! We loved that we were able to jump off the dock into the lake. We spent many hours on the lake itself, enjoying tube rides and happy hours. The restaurant on the lake has a wonderful breakfast and was so easy to get to by boat. Definitely worth the trip to drive to Bryson City to hike and ride the tubes down the river past the waterfalls. Amazing! We will definitely come back.

Another great stay at Lake Nantahala

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Tim and Brenda's home and I can say once again it did not disappoint. The weather cooperated and we had 7 wonderful days at the lake. The house puts the experience over the top. We had two families with a total of 10 people and two dogs and not one time did we feel like we were on top of each other. The house is laid out well fully equipped with everything you need. Tim even called to see if we needed anything. All of the communication with Brenda was great leading up to the vacation. It is about a 10 hour trip for us but worth every second. Cannot wait to get back!!

Beyond Expectations, Relaxing Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not do this home justice! We were blown away the second we walked in the door of this gorgeous home. Large 3 story home with plenty of space for multiple families and children. Dual showerhead in master shower with skylights was amazing, in addition to large garden tub. It is obvious that the owners take great pride in maintaining their vacation home. We loved spending time sitting on the two decks, which felt like we were in a tree house, high up in the canopies of the trees. Kayaks included with the house were a bonus with 7 children to entertain. Downstairs was deemed the kids zone with all of the amenities and second washer/dryer and fridge. We cooked almost every meal in the well stocked kitchen. Owners were extremely helpful and even called to check in the first night to ensure everything was going well. The lake is clear and calm in the cove area where the home is located. Weather in July was amazing with highs in the upper 70s. This was truly a home that was comfortable and did not feel like you were away from home. We were very sad to leave and would love to return again!

Amazing house and hosts! Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for renting your beautiful home to us. It was exactly what we were looking for. The house had so many personal touches, beautifully decorated and so cozy and comfortable. The layout was perfect and plenty of room to spread out and super kid-friendly. We would go back in a heartbeat! I bet a summer vacation there would be a blast! It was too cold to enjoy the lake at this time of year but it didn't stop the kids from playing in the mud and jumping in! I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a vacation home in this area! Thank you again!

Amazing Lake House!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a house to rent on direct lake front to enjoy time with our family and this house was perfect! The house is absolutely amazing! It's beautifully decorated throughout and has wonderful amenities. It has a pool table and ping pong table, which my kids thoroughly enjoyed, and has a great space in the downstairs area for watching TV, etc. Very kid friendly. The lake is pristine, with crystal clear water and beautiful views. The house is situated on a nice cove on the lake, so you can safely swim and kayak right off the dock without having to worry about a lot of boat traffic. The area is fairly secluded so, even though we were there at peak time in the summer, the lake never felt crowded. We were able to tour the lake on the pontoon boat and take in the breathtaking views of the mountains. It was spectacular! This is truly a second home for the owners and it is clear they take a lot pride in their home and in keeping it immaculate. The owners were great in giving us directions, suggestions and advice. I will definitely be back and would highly recommend this home.
