Why Roland Colton chose Hommes
The family is devoted to multi-culturalism and loves what France has to offer: rich history, breathtaking scenery, world-class cuisine, classic architecture, beautiful language and literature. The Loire Valley, in particular, embodies the best of France. The kings of France built their summer palaces in this beautiful valley.

Wonderful, peaceful setting in the forest
We loved the property and would stay there again. The house manager was very friendly. The chateau and grounds are stunning
BREATHTAKING VACATION AT GUESTHOUSE
Rarely does a vacation home exceed expectations as much as this property did. We were searching for a beautiful and peaceful retreat in the heart of the Loire Valley, hoping to find a diamond in the rough. What we found was more like the Hope Diamond! Nestled in the magnificent grounds of Chateau de la Briche, we discovered breathtaking beauty and serenity. We love the ambiance of the charming guesthouse---which was converted from a gardener's home into a comfortable and pleasant home. We rode complimentary bicycles through the massive forest's labyrinth of beautiful pathways, strolled along the lake and river and discovered delightful surprises in trekking through meadows and trees. Having a swimming pool just steps from the front door was a big plus, too. We passed an unforgettable autumn week in paradise. We enjoyed outstanding cuisine at the local restaurant (just 5 minutes away), fresh daily baguettes and a surprisingly large super market with everything we needed. The onsite caretaker was also a pleasure to work with. We can't to return next year!
Lovely setting but some property issues
It was a lovely quiet & private place. When we arrived we found the pool was in terrible condition. Problem with pump? Green algae had obviously built up over some weeks. It was partly removed but it was slimy & slippery on the steps so not safe really although Thierry intimated that water was OK. Luckily we had no children in our party. So rather disappointing as weather was good & we didn’t feel we could swim.
The conversion of the orangerie must have been done a long time ago and the house bathroom is rather antique, as are the towels. These should be replaced as not really acceptable.
On the positive side the main reception has been redecorated & is a lovely large room. There is a new washing machine, dishwasher & drier which was handy. 2 fridges useful too. There was salt & pepper, oil, varous teabags etc too.
Thoughts for the owner, provide some sheet/booklet which describes where the nearest facilities are such as boulangerie, supermarket, restaurants & petrol stations in the area maybe. Thierry speaks no English so this limits information unless you are farly fluent in French.
Fix the pool, it evidently leaks a lot as Thierry keeps coming to top it up. Drops about 5cm a day? Get cushions from sunloungers, there are mouldering ones in the shed + a broken parasol which was unusable. It is a country property so mice are around at night including what we we think is a woodland jumping mouse. This might worry some people so is worth mentioning. Also a bike pump as some tyres needed air.
So in summary a great location/setting let down by neglect. I was expecting better quality for the price paid.
Thank you for your review. John L's review was the first review under four stars that we have ever received during the past seven years. The pump was temporarily out of service, which resulted in more algae than normal in the pool during his stay. The pump has been fully repaired and the pool looks outstanding; all outdoor equipment and indoor furnishings are in excellent condition. Part of the chateau experience involves maintaining the original décor and architecture of the structures, and tenants have appreciated that. We appreciate John L's comments and will endeavor to insure that all future tenants have a memorable and satisfying experience. All guests are provided a detailed list of local services, restaurants, grocery stores and sites worth visiting.
Perfect location for visiting Loire chateaux. Comfortable home with spacious private grounds.
Great central location for a home base from which to visit your choice among the 90+ chateaux along the Loire River. The guest house looks out onto a swimming pool and a HUGE private garden of the Chateau de la Briche. The guest house main room is expansive, with high ceilings. The kitchen has all the appliances and utensils one could need. In addition, there is a laundry room with both a washing machine and a dryer (dryers are extremely rare in Europe). The nearby town of Homme has a wonderful restaurant (Le Boeuf Tard) offering home made pates, local Chinon wines, and an English speaking waiter. We appreciated the bowl of fruit, cheese, a baguette, juice, coffee and spices. We appreciated the personal welcome from on site staff and fully enjoyed our stay. Just a caution is that the stairs to the loft bedroom could be a bit precarious for young children or seniors.
Magical setting, exceeded expectations
The setting in the grounds of a beautiful chateau is very special and it was an absolute delight walking and cycling through the woodlands and gardens. Very private setting and great pool which was used daily. A warm welcome greeted our arrival and the fruit bowl and starter groceries were an unexpected, but much appreciated, surprise. Excellent communication with the owners - we would highly recommend staying here, especially if you want a relaxing break in the French countryside.
A Wonderful Place
This was one of the most charming places we could imagine. The house is so well equipped, the surroundings so enchanting and the area so interesting that we were thrilled with the entire experience. The house was in immaculate condition when we arrived, and the owner was very responsive and helpful in our prior discussions.
