You will feel so much 'at home' in our beautiful Petite Maison, on the easily accessible ground floor of a lovely 17th century building, situated in one of Paris' most charming neighborhoods. Our little 'quartier' is featured in Frommer's 'Memorable Walks in Paris;' it is truly one of the most historic, lovingly preserved areas in the entire city.
Our historic two-bedroom, two-bath 820 s.f. pied a terre is tucked away on a serene side street; you'll awaken to the sounds of birds chirping in our private garden, along with the bells of the magnificent cathedral of Notre Dame, which appears like magic when you turn out of our front door.
Our 'little house' in the city (so-named by some Parisian friends) is just steps from the bouquinistes (booksellers) which line the Seine, and a five minute walk to the famous Place St. Michel and the excitement of the Latin Quarter. Within minutes you can see the Sorbonne, the Roman baths and Unicorn Tapestries at the Cluny Museum, take a quick stroll to Ile St. Louis, visit the Conciergerie where Marie Antoinette spent her waning days, or take in a fabulous classical concert at the famous St. Chappelle built by Louis the IX.
Our lovely neighborhood is very French, a rarified historic district filled with galleries, artisans, restaurants and unique shops. The wonderful open air market on Place Maubert is a three-minute walk, as is the Metro and a plethora of bakeries, wine purveyors and a fabulous cheese shop.
The apartment itself is exceedingly comfortable and handsomely furnished. It features two quiet bedrooms (one upstairs, and one down), each with a tres chic new en suite bathroom -- perfect for two couples or a family. Both can be made up with two twins, or one king sized bed. A comfortable day bed in the living room accommodates a fifth guest. The spacious living room is a perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine with friends and recount the day's adventures.
The recently renovated, gorgeous kitchen equipped with high end European appliances is fully equipped to whip up some French cuisine using your finds from the market at Place Maubert. Petite Maison's unique architectural features include classic 'tommettes' (old tiles) on the floor and a barrel vaulted brick ceiling in the living room. A striking iron chandelier illuminates the large dining table, where you can spread out your repast, and bask in the light from two walls of windows. We are also blessed with a private garden, a lovely place to enjoy a morning coffee during the warm summer months, and a working fireplace to keep you cozy on winter nights.
Our Paris based American manager is just a phone call away should an unexpected problem arise. He is also available to assist with restaurant, event or tour reservations, as well as to arrange transportation. A personalized 'users guide' filled with our personal recommendations will help make the most of your sojourn in our favorite city in the world. A DVD with French themed movies; a CD player with music library and travel guides are also on hand should you decide to enjoy a quiet evening 'chez nous.'
The nightly rate for up to five guests is $450; WE HAVE HAD A LAST MINUTE CANCELLATION AND ARE OFFERING A REDUCED RATE OF $350 USD (25% OFF) FOR OPEN DATES IN SEPTEMBER 2016. IMPORTANT: Please note that our cancellation policy is 90 DAYS IN ADVANCE OF OCCUPANCY - VRBO/HomeAway doesn't allow this option in their system, but in our experience, since European travelers normally plan/book their vacations far in advance, this period of time is required in order to rebook our rental. Your 50% deposit (required to reserve dates) is fully refundable up to 90 days before the date you arrive; once the balance is paid the reservation is non-refundable. We will process any deposit refunds outside of the VRBO system.
If you are looking for lovely, comfortable and quiet accommodations just steps away from all the best Paris has to offer, look no further than Petite Maison.
This apartment was our favorite stay of a 14 day european vacation. Traveling with two kids (8 and 13), the apt was the perfect respite for us after exploring paris. Here are some thoughts:
1) Location - amazing. Across the street from Notre Dame, walking distance from many things and transportation. In the middle of a neighborhood so you felt like a local. Near a great little market, and by a patisserie, boulangerie and fromagerie - what more could I ask for!!!
2) Apt itself - the big wooden doors of the building were SO PARIS, it was so exciting to walk through. The apt is easily accessible and decorated in an upscale but very comfy way. I do not understand a prior reviews mention of "flea market" because it was anything but. The kitchen was amazing! Great amenities and a washer and dryer that worked great. Bathrooms were awesome - the shower pressure was AWESOME too. I saw a comment on the AC - we were there during a HEAT SPELL! 90+ degrees every day. And while it wasn't frigid with the AC like some American establishments, it was comfortable. The upstairs bedroom was slightly warm but again, not uncomfortable. We all slept well. The fans and AC did the job they were intended for.
3) Service - we thought the service was great. Fortunately we needed nothing during our 5 day stay, so we were happy as can be.
I can't say enough about our experience. The pictures don't even do it justice. the outdoor patio was cute, we didn't use it because it was so hot outside, but we liked looking at it.
This should be a must stay place for anyone in paris - my close friends are booking it for next summer.
The location is superb. Walk down the street to the corner and Notre Dame is just across the river. Excellent location. Markets, wine shop, cheese shop and bakery near by.
The apartment: The photos are a little misleading. The unit is a little smaller and tighter (especially bedrooms and bathrooms) than the photos suggest, however the size was adequate for our needs (we were four adults with a 3 year old child). The decor suggests "flea market" furnished, but the beds were very comfortable and the kitchen modern equipped. The ground floor is on three levels - one step up to the bedroom and one step down to living - which means you need to keep a light on so you don't trip if you need to get a drink of water in the kitchen in the middle of the night. The exterior locks to the actual unit require some getting used to - it took us two days to get comfortable with them.
The air conditioning: We were there the first week of August - couple rainy days, couple sunny days - and some humidity. The AC is a wall unit that serves the living portion of the unit, but not the bedrooms. The bedrooms were hot several evenings and the unit brochure indicated we could ask for all additional portable cooling units. We received two vertical fans with a two hour limit that proved pretty much useless once you fell asleep.
The patio: The building is a 5-6 story building. Apparently it was once a school converted into an apartment building. The unit is on the ground floor, facing the street. The patio is in a blocked out quadrant of the larger interior courtyard of the 5-6 story building. As the courtyard is deep, it seems to get little sun. The patio was damp and frankly, you have 5 - 6 stories of windows looking down on you. The unit brochure asks you not be too noisy and with a three year old and the other issues above, we never used the patio.
The service: Non existent. We were greeted by a young lady (from New York) who walked us thru the unit and couldn't get out of there fast enough. There is a property manager who was somewhat helpful in getting cabs and the fan units. No one called to see how we were getting along (as contrasted to where we went next in Tuscany).
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Your apartment was exceptional and we so enjoyed having a comfortable, well situated place to come home to after a full day of sight seeing.
I love that you had a full bedroom and bathroom on each floor (with lots of towels and even beautiful bathrobes) which offered just the right amount of privacy for our weekend guests. The kitchen was well laid out and having the washer/dryer and dishwasher available was so convenient! Oh, and the coffee maker made mornings come alive!
We LOVED the location of the apartment-for us, it couldn't have been a more central starting point to doing all the touring and sight seeing we did every day. The perfect courtyard patio was such a nice place to end the day with a glass of wine or a coffee.
I am already recommending the Petite Maison to friends and family and hope that when traveling to Paris, some of them will take advantage of your lovely home.
Thanks for all the tips and recommendations and the pages of information that your so graciously provided before our trip. We had a wonderful vacation.
Fantastic location. We were very comfortable.
My wife and I travelled with long time friends for a week in Paris. I booked Petite Maison months in advance after seeing the pictures on VRBO. Michelle was incredibly helpful and offered many spot on recommendations for food and off the grid spots to see. We had very high expectations for the apartment and it exceeded them all by a mile. Perfect location just steps from the Seine and Notre Dame. Quiet little street near everything you might need (great pastry, cheese shop, grocery etc.). The apartment is lovely and the small private courtyard was bliss. We love Paris and when we return Petite Maison will be a part of that trip again. Thank you for sharing this very special place Michelle.
This was our first trip to Paris, traveling with our daughters age 15 and 20, and we couldn't have been more thrilled with our accommodations! Petite Maison is perfectly located on the left bank just a stone's throw from Notre Dame on a quiet cobblestone street. The apartment is well appointed and very comfortable, and we welcomed the washing machine and dryer after a week in London beforehand. We could easily walk to many locations nearby such as Jardin du Luxembourg, the Pantheon, Notre Dame, the Louvre and the Marais District for fabulous shopping! There are many cafes on the corner and markets nearby and even a vegetarian restaurant, Restaurant Vegetarien Biologique, (not easy to find in Paris!) that thrilled my vegetarian family. Michelle and David were wonderful to deal with and gave us lots of great advice and tips for our stay. One highlight we discovered was the walking tour "Set In Paris" only two doors down, where Antoine took us around movie locations in the area. It was surprisingly informative and entertaining, and we enjoyed watching "Midnight in Paris" on DVD (they have a wonderful French themed selection at the apartment) afterwards. We are anxious to return and will definitely stay here again.

Please note: We have a 90-day cancellation policy (50% is due at time of booking to reserve, which is fully refundable up to 90-days prior to occupancy). The balance is due at the 90-mark and at that time the reservation becomes non-refundable unless we can successfully rebook your dates. With a European property it is extremely difficult to rebook a cancelled reservation with less notice, we thank you for your understanding. Please ignore any conflicting messages from VRBO/HomeAway.
