Only steps from the back door is a deserted beach with white sand, crystal blue waters and reefs with world-class snorkeling. View angel fish, stingrays, lobsters and many others. Conch shells and starfish are plentiful. Pick a coconut off the trees on the property. Diving and fishing tours on larger boats can be arranged.

We really enjoyed the house and the location was perfect. We have been to San Salvador before and love the Island. It was a real bonus to be next door to the Columbus Tavern Restaurant. If you give them a day's warning Sadie will cook meals to order, either to dine in or take out. We enjoyed fresh fish (Grouper was terrific), fresh conch, fried chicken and even Lobster. Being able to walk next door for dinner or a drink was wonderful. We snorkeled right off the beach in front of the house - if you go down a few hundred feel to your left you'll see a nice reef just off the beach. Lots of fish, stag horn, brain coral, and beautiful colored fans. The owners were terrific and helped us arrange a rental car, and even getting the house provisioned before we arrived. The house was clean, wifi worked fine, AC was very cool, beds comfortable and the view of the beach and water from the deck was incredible. The only two changes I would make are adding some shade on the roof deck (it's been a long winter and we weren't sun-acclimated yet) and adding more shade at the beach (a new gazebo has already been started). We'll go back.
Excellent rental property, great location, wonderful island to visit!
Excellent rental property, great location, wonderful island to visit!
My wife and I have visited a number of the out islands of the Bahamas. We always prefer to rent a house as opposed to staying at a hotel. The property is right on the beach as shown. We had our best snorkeling right off of our own beach. We got fish off the reef and conch. The house is in a great location north of town. The beaches are quite empty and pristine, and very clean. Everything worked just fine at the house as expected. We found the house cozy, and enjoyable to sit down and relax at the end of the day. We used a car and drove the entire island over several times which I highly recommend. We found everybody very nice, and asking a lot of questions as we did of them. During our stay, the owners, Robert and Sharon called to check in see how everything was going for us. We would highly recommend coconut cottage, and we look forward to visiting the island again very soon.

It was perfect! The pictures say it all. This was a dream vacation.
Can't wait to return!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! The owners, Wayne and Sharon patiently answered all our questions beforehand and were very accommodating.
The beach is more beautiful than the pictures and we practically had the mile long beach to ourselves. During our two week stay only two people walked by us at the beach! The elevated deck is also great for tanning and the almost constant breeze kept us cool.
The house met our expectations and was well equipped. We were encouraged to rent the CRV and I'm glad we did as it enabled us to explore the island and add many interesting experiences to our vacation. Wayne, met us at the airport and we picked up a few groceries on the way to the house. He returned later with fish dinners from a local fish fry, which we really enjoyed! The tavern next door has awesome conch and fries which we enjoyed several times. There was never any noise from the tavern. Actually the only thing we heard in the neighborhood was the singing of hymns from the Baptist church across the road on Sunday mornings.
There are many places to explore and usually, we found that WE were the only ones exploring. Everyone is friendly and drivers and pedestrians wave to each other. My daughter's fiancé went for a long walk and was surprised that people stopped to offer him a ride.
Groceries cost a bit more and the selection is different so we found ourselves modifying our diet. I caught a few small fish. Instead of watching TV with a $5 bag of chips we cracked open a coconut! Most stores are open during the day from Mon-Fri so planning is important and that applies to gasoline also. Almost everywhere deals in cash only. There is a ATM at the Bank which I was able to access with a Canadian debit card.
If you are looking for a quiet getaway, away from the resort crowd then this is the place to stay. We really can't wait to return!
Comfy island digs!!
Thanks Sharon and Wayne for the great place to base our San Sal escape from winter. We enjoyed having the kitchen and barbeque to make our own meals and cook the yummy fish we obtained from Kim. Although we did supplement with great meals at Paradise Resto, the take out by the airport and Columbus Tavern, which we affectionately referred to as Plan B with B because it was our fav option. The house was a great space for the four of us and for entertaining our other friends who were staying at the other end of the island. Loved the beach access, the upper deck for sundowners, and the outdoor shower. Thank you so much for sharing your home with others and for checking in with us half way through the week.
Also would like to give a shout out to all the friendly island folk like B and his wife, Pastor Gary, Kim, Capt. Bruce, the ladies at the grocery stores, the wintering folks that included us in their meal at the Columbus Tavern on our last night, the Research Station Manager and all the others we encountered during our week. They all helped make our stay so pleasurable.
Things of note for others when they visit the island... Say yes to renting the vehicle at this property (a great way to explore all the great beaches and the spectacular cliffs); where your sandals or shoes walking around until you are clear of the vegetation (there is a grass that produces some serious sharp burrs, ouch); wear your bug dope/long pants as sunset approaches 'cause the sand flies love fresh new legs; go snorkelling with Capt. Bruce and first mate Jazzy, the dog; the resorts are generally not welcoming to folks who are not staying there, despite what the guide books say about making reservations for dinner or getting day passes to use their facilities; do take the time to stop and talk to the locals; buy Kim's sisters beautiful beach glass jewellery at the Duty Free Shop by the airport; and finally, respect this beautiful gem of an island and leave only footprints on that gorgeous sand.
Its hard to find words to describe this wonderful place.
Me and my girlfriend rented the house for one week. In the house you can find everything you need, even bikes. It is directly on the wonderful beach, where never saw someone else than us.
It was more than practical to have the car, to explore the many beautiful places on the island.
After a week, we dediced to stay longer on the island. Because the owners came, we rented another apartment.
Even after our stay, the owners made everything to make us feel comfortable. They are great.
We can recommend this place and would directly go back again.
Other Activities: Charter boat deep sea fishing available upon request.
