**It was shot by a remote control helicopter!

Overlooking Lake Travis in the Hill Country, this one-of-a-kind architectural gem is off the beaten-path and at the center of things. As you approach over tree-covered hillsides which drop to the midnight-blue water below, you’ll get more the impression that you are in the Greek Islands or southern Italy than in Texas. Since the Tram House can only be reached by tram, you’ll park at the base of the hill, climb into the tramcar, and let your horizon expand as you are carried 210 feet up the 55 degree hillside to the panoramic views of Lake Travis.

Built in perfect alignment with the slope of the hill and standing at ‘treetop’ height, it is the only house east of the Rocky Mountains that requires a tram to access. The Tram House boasts three private balconies, custom-designed skylights, and corner windows in the living room and bedrooms. The three-level, contemporary-style home is comfortably furnished with all new décor. It has been featured in Austin Monthly and Parade magazines.

From Lake House Bliss to Downtown Nightlife: The Tram House is unique because it is the only house east of the Rocky Mountains that requires a tram to access! Unlike most houses built on a hillside, the architect did not cut into the land to build the house, but built it in harmony with nature—it skates in perfect alignment along the slope of the hill, and standing 30 feet high in all areas, maintains ‘treetop’ height.

The house offers unobstructed, panoramic views of Lake Travis with its soaring sailboats, Mansfield Dam and Hudson Bend. You can almost see Austin from here!

For a casual night close to home, watch the spectacular sunset from the patio of the famous restaurant, The Oasis on Lake Travis, or drive only 25 minutes from lake house bliss to downtown nightlife featuring the Live Music Capital of the World, Austin's famous 6th Street and the warehouse district.

Home Sweet Home at the Tram House: It doesn't matter if you are staying in our Vacation Rental for a romantic weekend in Austin or if you are in town on business, you will feel right at home at the Tram House. In addition to the houses architectural features and comfortable amenities, the Tram House has been complimented many times for being so well-stocked. The owners provide soap, paper towels, bath towels, toilet paper, hand towels, shampoo and conditioner, plates, glasses, pillows, sheets, and many other things that most vacation rentals do not provide. If you have any questions about what to bring, be sure to give the owners a quick call or email.

Austin Holiday Getaway on Lake Travis: This house will make you feel more like you are in southern Italy, the Greek Islands, Hawaii, California, Switzerland, the Bahama's, or Tanzania than in Central Texas.

With its unparalleled views, exclusive location, modern comfort and competitive rates, neighbors and visitors alike rave about the unique Tram House. Come and see for yourself! Contact us for more information about this exceptional lake destination.

About Keith Powell

Keith and Sheila wish you a warm welcome to the Tram House! Keith is a financial planner who works with women going through a divorce. When he’s not at work helping one of his clients plan a financial future, can be found on his boat on Lake Travis. Sheila is a technical writer for an Orthopedic Manufactuer who also enjoys boating and traveling with her husband. Both Keith and Sheila are very active in the Comanche Trail Community Association that oversees the lakeside community in which their beloved Tram House is located.

Keith Powell purchased this house in 2005

Why Keith Powell chose Austin

“We originally bought our home because we wanted to live close to the lake,” explains Keith. While the Tram House is their primary residence, in order to “share the beauty of waking up to the lake every day,” Keith and Sheila often reside in the garage apartment that is located on the premises and rent out the main house. It works out well for them as they are often away on traveling adventures, or spending the weekends on the lake in their cabin cruiser, “Lady Luck.”

Since moving into their unique home in 2005, Keith and Sheila have discovered many pleasures beyond what originally drew them in: Sunday drives through the winding Hill Country, the myriad nearby attractions and eateries, and the tranquility of being perched above it all. Their hope is for each of their visitors to love waking up to the lake, and to enjoy staying in the only home east of the Rocky Mountains that requires a tram to gain access!

What makes this house unique

We love to eat out. At the Tram House, you'll be close to famous restaurants like the Oasis(view), Steiner Ranch Steak House, Boat House Grill, Hill Country Pasta House, Flores(Mexican), Ciola's(Italian), Carlos & Charlies, Cafe Blue', Hudson's on the Bend(Exotic Game), Rudy's(BBQ), Thai Spice, Nygori's, Rice'(Thai/Sushi) and many others. Also, we've been complemented many times for having such a fully stocked house. In other words, we provide soap, paper towels, bath towels, toilet paper, hand towels, shampoo, conditioner, plates, glasses, pillows, sheets, etc. There's a lot that is provided that we have heard other vacations rentals do not provide. If you have any questions about what to bring, be sure to give us a quick call or email.

Oh My Gosh!!!

  • 5 of 5

In attempts to make my 50th birthday unforgettable, I went into full gear to find a place to stay in my 2nd favorite city, Austin. Years ago, we made a promise that my milestone will be celebrated on Lake Travis (a special place for us). I stumbled onto the Traum House and my decision was final after speaking with the owners, Keith & Sheila.

The pictures of The House were breath-taking and the aniticipation of our arrival was overwhelming for me and my significant other. Once we arrived, The House was so spectaular (the pictures just don't tell the true story)-- you'd have to see it to believe it! We were in awe of the place!

The atmosphere/setting was everything we could have ever wanted... and more. The accommodations were right on! EVERYTHING was absolutely perfect! No problems- No incidents- and No failure! Initially, the traum to the house was concerning because I am afraid of heights, but it was a quick adjustment-- I enjoyed the slow speed of the traum because it allowed us to enjoy the view of the lake.

Keith & Sheila were special people that made us feel welcome and left the impression their house was our home. This birthday celebration was a milestone and will never be forgotten. We're still talking about it and smiling!... Awe!

Thank you Keith & Sheila, for sharing your blessing!

Absolutely perfect for two couples

  • 5 of 5

When relatives from Ohio agreed to come for a visit, we wanted to show them the Hill Country and "the best of Texas," with the last stay in the Lake Travis area. One of our guests has health issues, so in case she did not want to go sight-seeing, I wanted more than an ordinary, boring hotel room. I wanted lodging that would be a great place to hang out, just in case.

The Tram House did not disappoint, it surpassed my high expectations. The view was spectacular, the location (convenient to Austin) was perfect, the view was spectacular, the kitchen had everything you could want, the view was spectacular, the linens on the beds were very soft, the view was spectacular, the house was spotless, the view was spectacular, the bathrooms were gorgeous, the view was spectacular, and the living area spacious and comfortable. And, lest I forget, the view was spectacular!

When showing Austin to our guests, I found myself wondering how long much longer it was going to be before we would be done and could get back to the house. Staying in the Tram House was just as much (or more) of an "event" as any place we visited in the city. You can't say that about a hotel room.

When we were preparing to leave, my husband said: "Who can we invite to come back here with us?" We really hated to leave, and hope to return.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

The house was easy to find and this is comming from a girl who has no sense of direction. Once I was there the tram just blew me away, I love it. I had expected like a ski slope lift but it is enclosed. It takes a good minute to get up but for this type of get away time didnt exist until check out. Once up I actually got to meet the owners of this home and they are by far a lovely couple and they take very good care of their home. I quickly toured the home so I could get to the deck and there I sat looking at the sun setting, with music from the outdoor speakers playing and a over all calmness. After the sun set I decided to go in and take a look at the place I rented. The bedrooms are comfortable and set up nicely. The bathrooms were a BIG hit with my group. The master bathroom has a walk in shower with two shower heads and the shower also leads out to a private balcony. Also in the bathroom is a jet bath which next to the view was my other favorite part of the home. Everything about this home is perfect for a small chill get away. In the surrounding area you will find some good restraunts, nature walks, parks etc.

Amazing views that will take you away from it all

  • 5 of 5

We came to The Tram House with plans of enjoying the views and visiting our favorite spots in Austin, but we were so relaxed that we never wanted to leave. My suggestion is to check in as close to 3PM as possible, then head the grocery store and load up on groceries and wine for a night in. Don't forget the coffee because you will not want to leave in the morning either. We ventured out later in the day, sampling some of the restaurants closer to the lake but we always rushed back to ease back into the night at the house. I miss the view already.

A minor issue we had was sleeping due to new noises. The A/C sounds and the noise of an exterior tree hitting the deck took some getting used to, but the bed was so comfie (and the wine was still running through our veins) that we eventually dozed off. It was a small trade for the amazing view.

In my dreams we live in a place like this and envy the owners who get to visit whenever they so choose. We plan to come back soon! Thank you!

Owner's Response: We have widened the hole that the tree grows through. Next time we get high winds, as we did that weekend, we'll have to check to see if the new hole is wide enough. Look at the picture of the tree coming through the deck to see what we are dealing with. Notice, still a great expeirience for the travelers!

Magnificent!

  • 5 of 5

My family and friends enjoyed this amazing home for a weekend getaway. We had an amazing time! Keith&Sheila were both very friendly and accommodating. The pics on the website really drew us to this house versus others that we were considering. And believe me when I say, the pics don't do it justice. The house was even more incredible in person! From first time you set foot on the TRAM that takes you up to the home, to the breathtaking views from all 3 decks. All of which had their own unique vantage point to enjoy the entire lake and surroundings areas. The location is perfect as well. We were minutes from volente beach, windy point, and cypress creek boat ramp. The interior is 5 stars. You will feel like you are in a futuristic home that is smartly designed to ensure optimal ease of use and relaxation. The beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms were like nothing I have ever seen. Do yourself a favor and rent this house. It is better than anything else around both for the price and accommodations. You will not find a better lake house to relax and spend quality time with your friends and family as you are taken away by the character and uniqueness of the TRAM HOUSE!
