About Stephen Lutz

Stephen & Beth have lived in Asheville since 1982 so we know the area well. We have four grown children, love to travel, but also love to keep exploring our home town. We enjoy meeting new people and our guests.

Stephen Lutz purchased this apartment in 2002

Why Stephen Lutz chose Asheville

If you want to be close to downtown and the Biltmore Estate but don't want the hassle of a parking deck, our location is about as good as it gets.

What makes this apartment unique

A lot of love went into the building of Craftsman Cottage, from the beautiful custom woodwork to the deck overlooking the garden. We love it when guests take time to explore the grounds of our 1914 era Craftsman home.

Beautiful Place to Stay--Great Location

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful place to stay for our trip to Asheville. We love Craftsman architecture, and were delighted at the great attention to craftsman detail and design. Really nice.

The location was perfect too. Kenilworth is a beautiful, quiet neighborhood full of gorgeous old craftsman homes/mansions, but it is just down the hill to the Biltmore Estate and downtown Asheville, where most of our weekend was spent.

The owners, who live next door, are fun people with great ideas for restaurants and things to do. Tupelo Honey is a great place to eat that they told us about. They had a complimentary bottle of wine waiting on us when we arrived, which we enjoyed on the deck of the cottage, which is particularly lovely. It has vines with blooming roses growing along the rail of the deck with little lights interspersed, which makes it look and smell wonderful at night. This was a great place to stay, and we can’t wait to go back!

Home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay !! - made to feel very warm and welcome - the unit feels like a home away from home - the owners have thought of every detail - an extensive library and well stocked movie collection to wind down with in the evening. Access to the Biltmore entrance in 5 minutes - downtown in about 7 minutes - great restaurants in Asheville and the owner has provided a book with much detail about the area and much available literature to help guide and plan your stay. We will definitely return to this home in the future!!

Beautifully designed and appointed in authentic Craftsman style.

  • 5 of 5

Located in nice neighborhood for walking and conveniently located to downtown and River Arts district. Lovely private porch overlooking lily pond. Beautiful gardens. Off street parking. Bottle of wine provided, bring your own coffee. I would have given it 10 stars if that had been an option!

Love, love, love!

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time my husband and I (and our tiny, tiny dog) stayed here and I'd do it again in a minute! The place is just as good -- if not BETTER -- than it looks in the picture and the location is fantastic for appreciating all Asheville has to offer. Both times we've stayed, we've been there for 1+ week, so I feel we really know the unit, and I can say it's more comfortable than places I've paid twice as much for. I just wish I could be sitting on that porch with my morning coffee or evening wine right now!

Lovely cottage but small half baths

Beautiful decor and lovely gardens. Great view from the balcony. There is only one shower, and it is small. No bathtub. Convenient location.
