Very cozy, unique Carriage House

Our weekend in the Carriage House was the perfect Vermont getaway. Very private and close to the quaint Dorset village. Looking forward to returning soon!

Beautiful setting, not the cleanest

  • 3 of 5

We stayed in the carriage house over Columbus Day weekend, and the property is truly beautiful. The carriage house was a great size for my husband, daughter, dog and myself. That being said, the space was not adequately cleaned. Upon arrival we discovered mouse droppings on the kitchen counters, stove, dish drying mats and floor. The floors appeared to have been swept with a broom, but the rugs had crumbs and hair all over. Cobwebs and dead insects could be found in corners and almost all window sills. The entry to the space is through the garage and the fumes form the garage could be smelled in the space. Not an easy fix I am sure, but perhaps a more substantial door with a better seal. The vast majority of the large windows have no treatments. Including the bathroom. This made night time showers very uncomfortable as the shower is directly in front of the window. While we were staying on the property, there were other renters in the main house and it felt a bit uncomfortable with the amount of exposure. We were charged a cleaning fee, yet at the end of the stay, were expected to do all of the laundry. So the morning of departure, when we would have liked to have headed out early and catch a few sights before beginning our drive home, I had four loads of laundry to do. The small washer meant each bed had to be laundered separately and bath and kitchen towels also required two loads. Pillows were unbelievably lumpy and there was no hand soap in the bathroom. All in all, the property has tremendous potential, but needs to be maintained more diligently.

A spectacular home.

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time renting here, everything was as advertised and more. Our intention was to relax and enjoy, and we did.

We do a lot of traveling and have never stayed in a house as well stocked as this one. I enjoy cooking and was impressed with the ample work space and gourmet chef amenities in this massive kitchen. This is the best equipped, most friendly house we've ever rented.

The owners bent over backwards to ensure our privacy and comfort. They thought of everything right down to radiant floor heating, steam shower, jetted tubs, comfortable beds & linens and an ample supply of firewood.

One day during our week long stay the outside temp dropped as low as 16F below zero (and a blizzard), but we didn't notice. The dog and I were warm & cozy inside by the massive fireplace (and loved the radiant heated floors) while my husband and son went skiing. Bromley Mtn. and Stratton Mtn. Resort are only minutes away. I ventured into the quaint town of Dorset and shopped the Manchester Designer Outlets once the weather settled. An ideal location to do everything on our vacation bucket list.

Thank you Ira & Ester for sharing your absolutely magnificent property with us.

Owner's Response: This house was built over a four year period with much thought and love pounded into each board. The same thought and love is extended to every one of our guests. It is our intent to make their stay enjoyable and to make this special place a home away from home.

Clean, well-stocked, secluded, impressive compound

  • 5 of 5

Awesome House. Neat situation with second living quarters above garage. Ira and Ester were very pleasant and helpful. No cell service was a surprise. Land line on site. Kitchen was very stocked and very modern. Main room with cathedral ceiling and wood fire place. Worked great for group hang outs due to rainy week. We rented the whole compound. If you don't rent it all you may have owners or others staying right close on site. Went hiking in rear of property. Excellent hike but not easy at all. Summit had limited to no views. Backyard was great for yard games and grilling. Fire pit centrally located in center. Wifi was clutch with no cell service. Still able to send Iphone texts on site with wifi. Close to town and all the stores you could need. I would definitely recommend this property. Stream located adjacent to property wasn't much to speak of but this was of course the dry season in August. Look forward to staying again.

Owner's Response: It was our pleasure to have ex Marines celebrate their annual get together at our home. Semper Fedelas to all those who have fought for this great country of ours. From one WW2 Navy veteran.

Stayed for our Honeymoon...definitely coming back!

  • 5 of 5

Wow, my wife and I stayed at the Carriage House for a week and we absolutely loved it. Such a beautiful large room, wood-burning fireplace, full size kitchen. It was amazing. The large windows gave us such a gorgeous view of the trees and nature, and the babbling brook was a lovely sound in the morning.

The place was clean, well-maintained, and stocked with everything we needed to do life for a week. And the town of Dorset is so lovely to experience.

It was secluded and private, which we totally loved, and the whole surrounding area provided the rest and rejuvenation we needed after such a crazy wedding season. We loved meeting Esther and Skip: they were very respectful of our space while kindly offering help when we needed it.

Having the place to ourselves was such a gift---it was refreshing to get some time alone and the freedom to have your own place for a week. We had loads of fun cooking meals, sitting by the fire, relaxing on the deck, and taking beautiful walks. All in all---an incredible spot.
