Old Town La Quinta with its numerous shops and restaurants is also just minutes away. Our mild winters make us a popular destination for tens of thousands of 'snowbirds,' who travel here from all over the United States, Canada and many other countries to enjoy championship golf, tennis and polo, swimming, hiking, luxurious spa treatments, fine dining and unique shopping. And with an average rainfall of 3 inches, the Coachella Valley is a 'Fun In The Sun' destination for thousands of people from all over the world. Our home is GREEN! The property has desert landscaping with water efficient bubblers to conserve water. Inside and outside, we use energy efficient lighting. Our appliances are also energy efficient and our washer and dryer play a big role in conserving energy. The washer uses minimal amounts of water and the gas powered dryer minimizes the electricity used. Our home is equipped with a water softener and we use special, all-natural soaps and detergents throughout the house, from the bathrooms, to the kitchen to the laundry. These concentrated soaps are made to work well with the soft water and minimize the impact to the environment. Our pool is filled with salt water to minimize the amount of chemicals required (better for the environment) and we had an energy efficient pool pump installed to reduce electricity consumption. Even some of the electronics in the house are Energy Star rated.
Gorgeous mountain views surround Casa Calliandra, our home in La Quinta Cove. Located near the top of the 'Cove' and only one block from the hiking trails around the perimeter, Casa Calliandra is the perfect getaway for those who seek the sunshine, peace and tranquility of the southern California desert. The only sounds you will hear during the day are birds chirping and doves cooing. Hummingbirds are quite numerous and are attracted to some of the beautiful flowers in our desert landscaped yard. Relax near our private pool and read a good book or go hiking or biking on the numerous nearby trails. Nights in the desert are magical with a beautiful, clear view of the Milky Way Galaxy unhindered by city lights.
Come and see how the deep blue skies mix with the earthy browns of the surrounding Santa Rosa Mountains and the vibrant greens of palm trees and desert plants!! The natural beauty of this area will captivate you and bring you back time and time again.

Danny & Terri are both avid golfers and have a passion and love for the La Quinta area. We currently reside in beautiful Los Angeles with our really cool dog Jazzy. There is lots for us to do in Los Angeles in pursuing our interests, but we do love the climate and beauty of La Quinta. We work between Los Angeles and Orange County with a busy schedule as we all seem to have these days. Coming out to La Quinta definitely rejuvenates and refreshes us.
Danny Mahelka purchased this house in 2009
We fell in love with La Quinta and the 'Cove' the first time we saw it. The gorgeous Santa Rosa Mountains, beautiful Coral Ridge, the close proximity to over 100 golf courses, the easy 2 hour drive from Los Angeles, the warm weather during the winter months all made us realize that La Quinta was a great location to have a second home. It also made it easier for us to choose to purchase a retirement home here and to rent it out as a vacation home for a few years.
Sun, sun and more sun! Golf, golf and more golf! An amazing getaway somewhere where the sun shines almost year round.
All was as described. the home is actually even nicer than it appears in the photos. the main living area was spacious and comfortable with great ventilation with doors open and great HVAC with doors closed.
If you are looking for a nice home rented to you by nice people, Mark was great, this is for you. We were in town for the national field hockey festival, which was 5-10 minutes away at Empire Polo. My wife and I were able to run up the street from the house 2 minutes and be on a great trail network into the desert. Great trail runs up a long ridge line to an oasis, along the flats then up the "risky trail"(so labeled on the trail sign) for a great view east over lake Cochelo(sp.?)
Could not have been better, Thanks Mark
convenient to local sites; hiking nearby; stores/restaurants easy drive; beds very comfortable
We loved this place. It had all the amenities needed to have a comfortable stay & an amazing location. Really clean & organized place. Highly recommended for future travelers. Definitely will stay there again.
Great property! Very nice furnishings and well equipped kitchen. It was easy to stay here since we had everything we needed.
My wife and I travel to the Coachella Valley a few times per year. We usually stay in La Quinta because of the relaxed small town feel with as many or more recreational opportunities than the other nearby desert communities. We joined our son from the Los Angeles area for an extended weekend.
Our favorite area to stay in La Quinta is the Cove. Casa Calliandra is a prime location high in the cove with fantastic views. The house was immaculate, very well stocked, loaded the all tech conveniences, and had exceptionally fine decor. Our short stay exceeded all expectations. When we arrived everything was a breeze to use including a state of the art security system. We relaxed in luxury during our stay and leaving was as simple as packing our bags, hitting a button to arm the security system and closing the door. La Quinta is always a great vacation destination and Casa Calliandra is our new favorite dig.
La Quinta has something for everyone! There’s golfing at the City’s spectacular public course, SilverRock Resort; dining and shopping in the quaint Village area or along the Highway 111 commercial corridor; biking along the Bear Creek Trail; and hiking in the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto mountains, just to name a few. No matter your pleasure, you’re sure to find plenty of reasons to come and enjoy the “Gem of the Desert—La Quinta!” La Quinta enjoys a healthy tourism industry, especially during the cooler winter months when the 'snowbird' tourists arrive. The most prominent industry is golfing with more than twenty golf courses, including the world-famous PGA West and SilverRock Resort which have both hosted many prestigious PGA tournaments like the Humana Challenge.
