I’m pleased to help make your stay at owner Tom Flynn’s beach cottage as perfect as possible.
It’s a privilege to work with a man of Tom’s caliber who is well-known as a visionary environmental manager, advisor, consultant, environmental engineer, and preservationist in California’s professional environmental culture, as well as at the CA Coastal Commission and NOAA (National Oceanic and Aeronautic Administration).
Tom’s many years of work to eliminate potential for pollution in Tomales Bay has won accolades throughout Marin and Sonoma Counties. Tom has substantially assured the adjective “pristine,” as in “pristine Tomales Bay”. Tom’s leadership to preserve several hundred acres of environmentally sensitive and scenic areas near the edge of Tomales Bay and nearby King Mountain is impressive and inspirational. He is known for results, which provide community, economic, and environmental benefits. This caring and attention to detail is reflected in his beach cottage.
I do environmental management over a range of water quality, energy efficiency, land use and have developed environmental clean-up and fitness technology.
Robert Ross purchased this cottage in 1975
A little over an hour drive from the Golden Gate Bridge is this natural wonderland replete with high quality restaurants, sustainable agriculture, hiking, biking, water sports, secluded beaches and a National Park which is a gem in the system.
Listening to the sound of waves lapping around the beach cottage, enjoying tremendous shorebird and wildlife right outside, kayaking in a peaceful bay, relaxing in a great bed, couch or hot tub with spectacular views, enjoying great food from locally produced seafood, organic vegetables and fruit, and excellent nearby restaurants.
Our second stay at Bleu Bay was just as wonderful as our first. Tamales Bay is such a wonder. We started out on what the neighbors said was the most beautiful day of the year and spent the whole time enjoying the water, the birds, the views, and also visits to the fabulously casual Marshall Store for delicious seafood and to the wonderful bakery in Tomales. The cottage is very comfortable, even when the fog comes in, and we appreciated the hot tub. Everything there is clean and kept up well. It was a perfectly restful mini-vacation.
What an amazing stay we had for three nights in this lovely, clean, well-appointed cottage - nothing can beat the unsurpassed views always available while cooking, BBQing, reading, listening to music, napping, soaking in the outdoor tub (we did not, however the location of this soaking tub is amazing), and listening to the sounds of the water lapping on the beach.
We ventured out on long walks thru the Strauss Dairy pastures, and everywhere - the cows actually seemed to welcome our visits and posed for many photos!! The Tomales Bakery was closed during our stay, however is a MUST for anyone interested in REALLY fine bakery items. The Dungeness crab at Nick's was FRESH FRESH FRESH and completely 'over the top' delicious in the Louie salad. This, along with a bowl of clam chowder and glasses of wine made a late afternoon lunch perfect. But wait, the next day we collected oysters from Hog Island Oyster Company to BBQ back at the cottage. OMG, the whole experience of enjoying these most delicious morsels, hot off the cottage BBQ, alongside wine while sitting on the deck of the cottage - with endless views and fresh air - well, PERFECT.
At times we could almost imagine Jack London joining us in the amazing historic cottage with its comfortable 'curl up' reading chair, rocker, sofas, wood floors, rugs, and gorgeous wood trimmed windows. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals - and for two 'foodies' that live to forage outstanding food, the local resources and kitchen provisions were far more than adequate. We even called ahead to make sure a coffee maker was available for the coveted cup of liquid gold in the mornings, and had an immediate response from Robert letting us know that there were two coffee makers available, including the details of their filters - AND the filters were available. PERFECT.
We chose to sleep downstairs on the MOST comfortable queen sofa bed, snugged in front of the cozy fireplace, awakened by the sounds of lapping water, birds, and need we say again, THE VIEWS.
There is no question that we will return - again, and again. We only hesitate to share this 'gem' to everyone we know, saving the magic of this cottage for ourselves and only those that will respect and care for this space in the manner it deserves.
Thank you, Robert and Tom.

Had the opportunity to spend a few wonderful days here in Bleu Bay Cottage. A real peaceful and beautiful place and the perfect setting to recharge yourself. Just the right distance to everything. Although we were familiar with the area, we arranged with the manager of the vacation rental, Rob, to have a guided tour when we first got there. It was a perfect way to gain insight to things we would not have found on our own. Allowed us chose a number of things we wanted to spend time doing while we were there. To give you an idea of the beauty, the first morning we got up, we went out on the deck to relax a bit and read.... neither of us even opened our books... we couldn't take our eyes off of the beautiful nature. Thank you for sharing.... J&R
An unfortunate set of circumstances could have turned this review into a bad one, but the customer service of the property manager saved our trip and this review.
My wife, our infant son and I stayed at the cottage during two very rainy and stormy nights in March 2016. Since it was raining in like crazy we were stuck inside for most of the trip... not a bad thing normally, except we had no hot water... and barely any cold water for almost a whole day.
We contacted the property manger Rob our first night and he got someone on it right away. Unfortunately, the repair guy had to brave the storm and flooded roads to get a part... so we didn't get the water back on until 24 hours after we arrived. But Rob ended up refunding us that entire night's stay to make things right. After that the stay was great. Couple of quick notes.
#1) The property location is great: Right on the water... and two of the best places to eat are just a short drive away (Nick's Cover & Hog Island Oyster Co.)
#2) The house is super cozy: Even during the storm, the place was cozy, warm and rock solid. Felt like we were the most sea-worthy ship out on the ocean. The gas heater worked surprisingly well! We were actually a little too warm at night, but cracking a couple windows fixed that.
#3) The Hot tub is killer: The view is amazing... even in the pouring rain!
#4) Upstairs Bedroom very peaceful: The view is killer, just watch out for the stairs (Very steep!) and the mattress (a little stiff for our tastes)
Hope to come back soon!
Bleu Bay Beach Cottage was the perfect two-day get-away. The house, which overlooks Tomales Bay, has big bay windows, a deck and a hot tub. We had a starry night, a pink dawn, loons in the morning, egrets, a stray heron and a fierce windstorm. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a great upstairs bedroom that like the rest of the house, overlooks water. The cottage can accommodate up to six plus a dog. Rob Ross, the manager, could not have been more helpful.
From the waterfront view of Tomales Bay, harmonious setting, and the cozy cottage atmosphere made our family feel both welcome and "at home" (away from home). The complete kitchen amenities, great location, comfortable beds, and roomy bathroom also made us want to just hunker down and want to hibernate. Yet, it's great location (near Hog Island Oysters, and closeby to Eric's Cove) made it our natural choice for a wonderful holiday experience.
It was a relaxing weekend to revisit our favorite Pt Reyes' Limantour Beach & hiking trails, and savour the hot tub awaiting after each day of exploration. Rob, property manager, was responsive and cordial with our numerous inquiries, and even offered his natural guided tours to make our stay more complete. Our family is definitely returning to this sweet cottage, and perfect getaway experience! Thank you!
There is great beach walking and hiking all over the surrounding area including the remarkable Pt. Reyes National Seashore, but a very local tip: hiking is just a few hundred feet away up a very quiet country road (virtually no cars) through the Straus Creamery pasture lands (the first organic dairy west of the Mississippi). You can walk all the way to the top of the local beautiful hills. At the top of this road you can enjoy expansive views of Tomales Bay and Point Reyes Peninsula.
Also about 4 miles South, the Marconi Conference Center (a California Parks Foundation Facility), is a nice place to hike around and take in historical information and beautiful views. Marconi, as you may know, did the first trans-Pacific radio transmissions from this location.
