Relaxing Cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was clean and as described. Very peaceful. If you plan on cooking, you will need to bring spices and condiments. Loved the sleeping loft and the wonderful view of the water and the cool breezes. Great jumping off point to Bodega and the Sonoma beaches, hiking, etc.

Magical Place, needs a bit more attention to details

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Bleu Bay Cottage. It is a magical place. The other reviews are a pretty accurate reflection of the experience so I'll keep my comments brief:

1. The bedroom is really a loft. The "stairs" are more like a very steep ship's ladder. If you are at all unstable the loft isn't the place for you as going up and down the stairs in the night is tricky. Both my wife and I who have no mobility issues slipped and almost fell. They can accommodate you with a sofabed on the first floor.

2. Cleanliness could be improved. There was hair on the floor in the bathroom. Large (pea sized) objects of some sort under a chair that looked like it hadn't been vacuumed under in some time.

3. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment, but don't assume there is anything beyond salt and pepper there for you to use when cooking. There were a few OLD bottles of herbs. And some olive oil that smelled like it had seen better days. if you are going to eat anything there you will have to bring it all along. There isn't even a tea bag or coffee for the coffee maker.

4. They should really get a filter on the faucet for drinking water as there is something a bit off about the flavor of the spring water

5. Prices of everything in the Point Reyes area seem to have escalated significantly since our last visit. Restaurants, groceries, cowgirl creamery. Seems like they are up 20 - 30% in the past year. So it is going to cost you more to visit hear than you would expect. Think SF prices

6. The whole area is overrun with day trippers on Saturday and Sunday. 100+ people in line for oysters at the Marshall Store at 230 in the afternoon, Come Monday through Friday for the peaceful Point Reyes experience. And remember, they roll up the sidewalks here about 8 pm, so don't wander into a restaurant to 9 and think you will get dinner.

When can we go back?! The house had so much character and superbly located oceanfront.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 had the most wonderful vacation, just wish it were longer! The entire front of the home is mostly windows capturing views that don't even seem real. You can't get any more oceanfront and you're right in between great restaurants just a mile or more on either side (Nick's Cove, Hog Island). Must try Marshall Store for BBQ oysters. Took a beautiful hike in Point Reyes, a scenic 20min drive away. We unwinded in the spa on the deck for sunset and couldn't believe the views! Coffee on the deck included a sweet momma deer and her 2 babies strolling by right on the shoreline in front of the house. This truly was a unique home and vacation, cannot wait to return!

Bleu Bay Cottage did not disappoint!

  • 5 of 5

We have often stayed in the Point Reyes area, but never in Marshall. The cottage was truly a treat for us. Comfortable, warm and cozy, we felt right at home. Everything we needed was provided. It is right on the water, and the views from the living area downstairs and the bedroom upstairs are lovely. Close to Point Reyes sites and Dillon Beach.

The owner was leaving as we were arriving, and he gave us a great tip about the Marshall Market clam chowder. Great place to eat!

We are looking forward to a return visit!

There is great beach walking and hiking all over the surrounding area including the remarkable Pt. Reyes National Seashore, but a very local tip: hiking is just a few hundred feet away up a very quiet country road (virtually no cars) through the Straus Creamery pasture lands (the first organic dairy west of the Mississippi). You can walk all the way to the top of the local beautiful hills. At the top of this road you can enjoy expansive views of Tomales Bay and Point Reyes Peninsula.

Miller Boat Launch: This popular 4-acre site is adjacent to Nicks Cove-- just one mile north of our Cottage. It provides a two-lane ramp and docks for motorized and non-motorized boat launching. Boaters can park overnight, which makes Miller an excellent access point for visitors seeking boating adventures in Tomales Bay and the surrounding Point Reyes seashore.

Also about 4 miles South, the Marconi Conference Center (a California Parks Foundation Facility), is a nice place to hike around and take in historical information and beautiful views. Marconi, as you may know, did the first trans-Pacific radio transmissions from this location.
