My husband Andrew and I retired a few years ago and fell in love with the wonderful community of Ajijic. We enjoy the outside living and terrific friendly people. We prefer to leave the driving to others so a walkable location in town is perfect for us. We are fortunate to have an apartment in NYC, a country home on the Hudson River 2 hours north of NYC and now a beautiful mexican home.
I was a NYC school teacher for 30 years and Andrew was in real estate banking and a private consultant. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Randy Greene purchased this villa in 2009
This house is quite unique, not only due to it's location in the village which contains restaurants, stores and financial services but also because it's only one block from the largest lake in Mexico. Although there is a circular driveway with two automatic garage doors, a car is not necessary.A taxi stand is only a few blocks from the house although drivers will pick you up right in front of the house if you call in advance. The local bus, 7 pesos, is 1 block away going towards the town of Chapala, the Wednesday market and many shops and restaurants, including Wal-Mart.
We just completed an entire paint job, in and outside although with the construction of a mirador to get sunset, lake and mountain views. This is located right outside of the kitchen door for easy access.
Immaculate home with beautiful artwork. Huge fully equipped gourmet kitchen with center counter .
Mirador with sunset and lake views
The location, the setting, the decor was all great. The house and gardens are very relaxing. The kitchen has every thing you would need including a blender. The house is located on a quiet street 1 block from the lake and a few blocks from fabulous restaurants. I traveled with my 20 year old son and his friend and we were all completely taken with this home, the area and the people. I am hoping I can stay again.
This was our first time in Ajijic during the summer rainy season. After years of drought and an occasional cold winter rain here in California, we really enjoyed the weather. The house was clean and everything worked. Hector the property manager shuttled us to and from the airport. The maid Maria was nice and friendly. She doesn't speak English but it was a good time to practice my Spanish. The other couple couldn't come with us so we had plenty of room. The master bedroom is air-conditioned but the fans were enough to keep us cool. We needed a light blanket at night. It really does rain at night in Ajijic. Great displays of thunder and lightning, too. We only used our rain gear once to go out for lunch. The sun was out again when we left the restaurant. Speaking of restaurants we really enjoyed a new place called Cocinart. Great Eggs Benedict and the best Reuben sandwich I've had outside of New York. Gossips was also excellent. The other new restaurant we tried was Pasta Trenta. My wife had a pasta dish with prosciutto and apples. I had a pesto pasta dish. Both were excellent. I tried a beer called AJIJIC. It was a stout and was excellent. Made locally. It seems the craft brewers are branching out. We tried to rent a golf cart to drive around the village but there was a 10 day waiting list. Will rent in advance next time. There is a liquor store on the Carretera just north of the property. W discovered Chamucos Anejo tequila which is smooth but doesn't have any oakey after taste. Iit's not available in the United States so it was a real treat. My wife retires at the end of the year and we are looking forward to spending more time at Randi's beautiful villa in Ajijic.
I recently returned from a wonderful--but way too short--vacation in Ajijic. My cousin and her spouse had rented a house for the month belonging to the Mundis in Mexici and had invited me to join them. They stayed in the beautiful main house and I got to stay in my own lovely and private casita on the grounds. It was a charming setting decorated with traditional Nexican rugs and beautiful artwork and had the most fabulous shower encased in wonderful blue Mexican tilework...and oh, the shower head was absolutely heavenly! I hated leaving it, especially after days of walking everywhere on the cobblestone street, doing intensely wonderful Zumba classes followed by nightly dancing at welcoming clubs( all just a few steps away from the property!), I then got to lounge and luxuriate under the most amazingly soothing shower! I guess I probably luxuriated under it a bit too long but I simply could not resist it's soothing powers and the relaxed way it made me feel! Then when I stepped out of my casita which had its own little veranda and seating I would begin my day sitting and reading and marveling at the exquisite greenery and flowers with lemon and papayas growing right outside. But the best for me was viewing my favorite--the bird of paradise flowers just beyond my door--a vision that began each day for me as a magical one.
The privacy afforded me by staying in my very own casita made me feel like I was on my very own vacation and not a shared one with my cousins, it was just like being in my own little paradise!
I could not have asked for more and I do plan to return.
I loved everything about this house! The open space in the backyard was the highlight--a pool, big area to lounge with couches, tables to eat, a grill to BBQ and a bar to drink! It was in a great location, there were several restaurants, shops and a beautiful lakefront boardwalk all in walking distance. There is a adorable casita in the back which offers additional room for guests and some privacy from the main house. Washer and dryer in unit was super convenient. I would highly recommend this property!
My wife and I had the opportunity to stay at this wonderful home for 10 days back in October and we found it to be the perfect location for our visit to Lakeside. Located just a few blocks from the village square, it was a short walk to restaurants and shopping and with the malecon only two minutes away it was very easy to take a morning walk or enjoy the sunset before dinner.
The house its self was great, with cozy sitting areas both inside and out and a very comfortable king size bed in the master suite, (having his and hers bathrooms was a nice touch). The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you would need to fix a full meal or just an afternoon snack. With that being said I think our favorite part of the house was the outdoor living area. It was the perfect location to sit and read or soak in the pool.
Randy has done a great job making sure her guests have everything they need for a relaxing stay and we look forward to the opportunity of being her guests again the next time we are in Ajijic.
We spent 5 wonderful weeks in this comfortable one home. Location is handy to the best restaurants, the village Plaza, and the lake is a short block away. The outdoor areas are beautifully landscaped with numerous flowering vegetation. We virtually lived in the walled back gardens with comfortable upholstered furniture with a heated small swimming pool. The kitchen is bright and well equipped. The King sized bed assured that we slept well. The house is full of interesting and eclectic art and decorations. We have many memories of our stay in Ajijic which has been a favored destination for over 50 years.

My roommate and I spent a wonderful month in Ajijic in this spacious house with all kinds of places to sit and enjoy the gorgeously maintained gardens. It was lovely to have maid service twice a week and someone who maintained the pool. This property is in one of the best areas in the village, especially if you are not looking for the gated, golf club type of property. We felt safe here and out of the noisy parts of the village but just a quick 10 minutes into the heart of the village. Also, there is access to the malecon right around the corner, where we walked often but also where Zumba classes are offered outside 5 nights a week for a mere 20 pesos. Also, right around the corner is the area called 6 corners that is totally Mexican but offers some small shops where you can pick up produce or water or other sundries you might need.
The management company was responsive to our needs, including arranging for someone to pick us up from the Guadalajara airport for a reasonable price. We lived a totally car-free life for a month, walked everywhere easily and even lost a couple of pounds!
It was the Mexican independence celebration of September 16 while we were there and the festivities went on and on with lots of family-friendly activities. We were active in the Lake Chapala Society, including Spanish lessons, line dancing, foreign films, an opera class and a great one-day bus ride to Tonala and Tlaquepaque, places to buy great Mexican crafts. Joining the Society for a month was a really good value.
We each expect to return to Ajijic. It was difficult to return home after feeling pampered for a month and not responsible for much of anything!
Unique cobble stone village 1/2 a block from Lake Chapala/ walking distance to town/restaurants/shopping/spas.
