AWESOME FAMILY VACATION

  • 5 of 5

Our family vacation was a complete success, mainly because the house, pool and owners were outstanding. We plan to vacation there many times in the future. Because we were able to get the large home, we were able to have our four grandchildren and one nephew stay there with my husband and myself. We never wanted to leave. The children had room to play inside and out and there was never an issue about the noise because we had this great private wonderland. Horses to feed and pet were one of the highlights for the kids. I would recommend this Home Away to anyone that loves the outdoors, privacy and room to play. The house itself was terrific for me, I loved the Victorian appeal, the large kitchen counter and cooking area made a quick job of preparing and serving meals. Our family says THANKS to the friendly owners and we hope to see you again very soon. Janice, Gil, Justin, Daryl, Dara, Sydney, Destiny, Cari, Jeffrey, Spencer and Wendi (our Pomeranian).

Charming Perfection

  • 5 of 5

I've rented properties through Homeaway since it was founded, both here in the US and internationally, with rentals in Canada, France, and Mexico. In all these years, most experiences have been pleasant, one was particularly horrible (our last Florida rental), but this one stands alone - this was perfect in every way. The owner, Jan, was friendly and helpful from the very beginning, and her guidance and advice were invaluable. Onsite caretaker, Claus (and his family), couldn't have been nicer. The property itself is a beautiful oasis. As other reviewers have pointed out, surrounded on all sides by lush grounds and horse/pony pastures, it's hard to believe busy shopping areas are less than a mile away. While my husband and I probably would have happily spent all of our time in the well-appointed, comfortable home, we did venture out to many area attractions with our intermittent guests. Highlights included day trips to beaches (about an hour away - favorites were Indian Rocks and Pass-a-Grille), a walking tour of Ybor City (excellent) and lunches at Columbia restaurant, also in Ybor, and also excellent (even for lunch, make reservations - it's always crowded). A drive to Clearwater for a spring training game was also about an hour, and Disney was maybe 80 minutes in the other direction. If you bring along a four-legged friend, as we did, Jan recommended two near-by parks (Aldermans Ford and Alafia River State Park) which were both great for long walks. Also, right down the street is a small county park with a paved loop that was our go-to location for early morning walks. A tip for those new to the Tampa area (like we were) who will be driving on highways around the city - get a SunPass at Publix when you arrive. My only regret is that the property is already reserved for next year, otherwise we most definitely would have been back!

Fun, clean, lots of space.

  • 4 of 5

Fun, clean, and lots of space! Our family enjoyed the pool and country-like setting that was super close to all necessities. On the downside only 2 of the sleeping spaces were actual bedrooms with doors providing quiet and privacy, the other two sleeping spaces were lofts. The other downside was that several of the beds were not very comfortable and the pillows were flat. Overall we enjoyed our stay and found Jan to be a helpful and available host.

Peaceful retreat in a beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

This being my first time using VRBO I have to say I was very happy with everything, the owner Jan called upon our arrival and departure making everything as easy as possible. The house was perfect for the 8 of us, we had plenty of room and everything was provided that we could possibly need. We visited several beaches while there but our favorite was Fort Desoto if was the same distance as all of the other beaches, but it has the least crowd and the water was very clear, unlike Clearwater or Honeymoon Island and it was the cheapest $5 unlike Clearwater which was $15 for 5 hr. Parking and Honeymoon Island which was $10 to park. Fort Desoto was recommended by Jan and her husband and they did not steer us wrong. Thanks for a wonderful home and experience, I was nervous this being my first time but you made it perfect with all of your helpful information.

Valrico is a rural suburb east of Tampa, part of the greater Brandon area. It's located mid-way between Tampa and Plant City, the world's winter strawberry capital and home to the Florida Strawberry Festival. Downtown Plant City also hosts a bustling antique district with great eateries and tea rooms. Valrico is also 20 minutes from the Hard Rock Casino and the Florida State Fairgrounds, where expos, equestrian competitions and other activities are held year round. Drive 20 minutes west to Tampa, and you'll find The Florida Aquarium, the University of Tampa, historic Ybor City, the museums of downtown Tampa, plus the St. Pete Times Forum, which hosts everything from hockey to concerts. Tampa is also home to the University of South Florida, Moffitt Cancer Center and Busch Gardens. Drive another 25 minutes west and you'll find some of the nation's top-rated beaches - the award-winning Ft. DeSoto beach & fishing pier, and historic PassaGrille home to the famous Hurricane restaurant.
