Gorgeous waterfront log cabin in the Crystal Coast. A relaxing get-away within 25 minutes of ocean front activities. Perfect for couples, families, fishermen, and anyone who wants to relax and enjoy life and the beauty that surrounds. It's tucked between the Croatan National Forest and the Newport River Bay.
Unique to this property are the rustic log cabin walls, hardwood floors, a wood burning fireplace and comfortable chairs for an ideal retreat. Find open common areas, a fully-furnished kitchen, and a large waterfront deck. Views of sunrise, shrimp boats, and crab point across the bay are admired from big picture windows and the deck. A platform tree house is built in a large oak tree next to the deck.
The 150 foot private pier is for fishing, shrimping, crabbing, kayaking, or watching egrets, crabs, and other native North Carolina wildlife along the protected coastline.
Main level of the cabin. Large water-facing picture windows in open living area and kitchen/ dining areas. Magnificent view of the water. A large full bathroom and the master bedroom are on the main level.
Two bedrooms, a large bathroom, and an open social area. The upper level balcony in front of the bedrooms also has a waterfront view. The upstairs social area and bedrooms overlook the lower level living area.
Note for boaters: At the pier, there is no ladder into the water, and the water depth at low tide at the end of the pier is only inches of water. During low tide, the pier may not be accessible by water for motorized boats, and may be grounded if docked. The entire river basin is two to six feet deep, and best suited to kayaks/canoes or smaller low drafting boats.

Owners Scott Wyckoff and Natasha Wyckoff are continuing the dream of their mother to create a beautiful peaceful retreat for all to enjoy.
The cabin is on the waterfront, tucked in the Croatan National Forest near Mill Creek.
Natasha Wyckoff purchased this cabin in 2002
Our mother chose this area for the waterfront, open land, and privacy. She and others spent 4 years building this cabin. Susan labored over cleaning up the land, rebuilding the pier after a previous hurricane, selecting and cutting cedar wood to create the cedar closets in the bedrooms, and finding the perfect hardwood flooring to further beautify her cabin.

We stayed at the cabin for Thanksgiving. It was amazing. The cabin has everything you could possibly need plus more. It was quiet, cozy, great location and great view. We created memories with the family that will never be forgotten. Love love love it. We will be back!!!!!!!
We really enjoyed the cabin. Very nice out by the water on the dock. Very close to Morehead and very private. Very nice flea market in Newport. Natasha was very easy to work with.
Thank you Natasha for sharing your wonderful log cabin with us. We had a wonderful time and the cabin is beautiful. There was plenty of room for our 3 families (5 adults, 4 children) to spread out and enjoy our time together. The bed I slept in just at the top of the stairs was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on in a rental. I had my sister lay down on it and she had to have one too. She took a picture of the label and ordered one for herself! The kids as well as the adults loved the tree house and the dock. We spent hours fishing and enjoying the view. The kitchen was well stocked with all the essentials and then some! I highly recommend this property if you want to relax in a casual atmosphere and enjoy the local area.
My wife and I plus our two adult college age sons and dog stayed for a long weekend. Home is very nice and we like the hard would floors. layout worked perfect for us with my wife and I have the main floor bedroom on the boys in the 2 bedrooms upstairs. They like having their own more private area to hang out in. we did not eat in so can't speak to that, but the kitchen met our needs fine. We loved the large back yard to play games in and run around with the dog. Very quiet and friendly neighbors who take care of the property.
Natasha was easy reach and work with. She was very accommodating to our needs. Our security deposit was returned shortly after we had arrived back home.
There were 2 reasons I rate this just short of 5 stars. Do not plan on doing any laundry. There is a combination washer / dryer that you can only use one at a time. Small and took forever to dry. If no need for laundry obviously this is not a concern! The water view is as awesome as the pictures show! However, there really is not a good use of the water unless you have a boat. We did enjoy sitting on the dock and catching blue crab one evening. Lots of them, however non were large enough to keep if you are looking to catch and eat. Also at low tide the water receded out beyond the end of the dock so that all the mud is exposed. So if you do have a boat it will be grounded at low tide.
Overall though I want to stress we had a great time at a lovely home in a nice quiet area right on the water!
We spent 5 days and 4 nights with our large family. Cabin has new mattress, new TV and new outside grill. We had no issue with the appliances. The cabin's location is ideal for a getaway. It is close to the beaches and other locations, but the joy is being able to enjoy the water and dock on the property. We caught fish, shrimp, and crabs from the dock. The yard is big and gave our children a place to play. Our children all asked if we could stay longer. We will be back again to enjoy everything the cabin has to offer.
Positives: Pictures accurately depict the cabin -beautiful site; interesting cozy decor. Sunrise on dock, inspiring.
Recent positive reviews must have been from weekenders. Stay longer & non-working appliances & bad beds become a factor.
Negatives: I would never have booked here if the ad had accurately described the bed situation. When I booked, the ad said there was a queen on the main but it was actually a double. We both have bad knees so, not good. I tried the double but rather than a box spring, it has 2 stacked mattresses. So it provides no support. Slats slipped & fell. They're too short and somebody's jammed wads of paper in to try to keep them in place. So in the middle of the night, it was up the stairs. The owner corrected the ad when I complained. The queen bed upstairs was hard as a rock.
There were too many maintenance issues:
* Ceiling fan & light near the stairwell weren't working, leaving the stairs poorly lit. I missed a stair and fell on night #1.
* Dishwasher sounded like it was running but left dishes as dirty as when they were put in.
* Clothes washer didn't work.
* Towel bars in downstairs bathroom are off the wall.
* There's a junk TV on the porch.
* Grill= rust bucket.
* We couldn't get some windows closed due to warping.
* Cordless vac didn't work.
* The broom was worn out & the Swiffer was broken.
* Wifi went out. I called the owner in Kansas. Her suggestion was that I buy a new router (she'd reimburse) & spend my time configuring it. I declined.
The owner confessed that she has not visited the property herself in several years. She relies on some neighbors there to clean and maintain. This does not seem to be working well.
Finally, the rental agreement states that the large security deposit is fully refundable within 14 days of departure. When I got nothing, I emailed & called several time. When these were not returned, I disputed the amount with my credit card company (to meet the deadline for disputes). Then I received a partial refund.
[I had paid the per week pet fee. The owner withheld an additional pet fee for our 2nd pet, which we brought at the last minute (The Agreement did not state that it was per week PER PET.) Must have been a visual sighting of our 2nd pet by the neighbor/cleaning lady because we went beyond the contract requirements, Swiffering the floors, cleaning surfaces etc.]
Got no apology for the the major appliances being shot but, hey, the owner did reimburse me for the Swiffer.
