Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, (king, queen & 2 twins), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps up to 8.)

You'll enjoy our lovely house right on the water as the perfect venue for fun with family & friends. This is a family neighborhood, and we have "quiet zone" from 9 PM to 9 AM. This is not a place for loud parties. In keeping with City of Austin ordinance, no more than 6 unrelated people can stay in our lake house, or be on the property at any time. (Our house can hold up to 8 people, but at least 3 of them must be related in order to keep with the regulations.)

This is a great location when you come in for UT anything. Only 20 minutes to UT for Longhorn football, basketball, and baseball/softball fields. Book now for a great place to come back to after SXSW concerts and all great Austin area festivals, for out of town family for graduations and weddings, among other things. Also great for a writer's quiet time for writing.

NOTE: Weekdays & holidays have 3 day minimum stay, weekends, 2 days. (The "rate calculator" doesn't always take this into consideration, but we hold to the minimums.:)

Click on View Calendar button above for availability, which we keep updated.

We have a nice private boat dock & large deck above with great views. It has a powerful boat lift that accommodates most ski boats up to 24 feet & you can bring your own boat. (No pontoon boats on it, please.) The dock is only a few steps down from the house, so you can quickly hop in your boat and be on your way. On either side of the dock is a generous swimming area for a bracing dip in the cool waters of Lake Austin. Lake Austin is a constant level lake, so the boat ramps are always open.

This home affords privacy, but is an easy trip in your boat to the Hula Hut (Mexican food), Ski Shores (for burgers) or County Line on the Lake (BBQ.) Ten minutes away is the fabulous Hill Country Galleria for shopping, restaurants & movies (including Whole Foods Market.) The Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve is close by if you’re interested in hiking & seeing the Texas Hill Country.

There is a convenience store just blocks away and HEB Supermarket and Whole Foods are just 10 minutes away for food or anything you may need. It's only takes about 20 minutes to get to downtown Austin, UT, the Convention Center, Zilker Park & the 6th Street entertainment district.

The house is a tri-level home built on a hillside, designed by architect Robert Pringle. On the entry level is the 'middle' bedroom which has a queen-sized bed. There is a 40 inch TV with DVD player & cable in this room. Also on this level is a full bath with a shower.

Upstairs is the loft master bedroom with a king-sized bed. The master has a private balcony overlooking Lake Austin & the loft overlooks the living room. There are vertical blinds to close off for more visual privacy. There is a flat-screen TV with DVD/VCR in this bedroom and an iPod/iPhone clock radio. The master bath has a bathtub with shower along with double sinks & a separate vanity & 2 walk-in closets.

Also upstairs is the 3rd bedroom, with a twin daybed & trundle.

All bed linens & bath towels are provided. We can sleep 6 people in beds, 2 more on a queen sofa bed.

Downstairs is the living room with its soaring natural wood ceiling, a wall of lakeside windows & a lovely limestone fireplace. One sofa folds out into a queen-sized bed for sleeping accommodations. The house has WiFi, so if you need to work or do a little Internet surfing, you can do it easily. In the living room, we have a 60” LED HD TV with a Blu-ray player and Netflix access, but with the view from the house, deck & boat dock, you may never turn on any of the TVs at all!

The fully furnished kitchen includes a Jenn-Air range with optional grill. Our Energy Star dishwasher saves water & energy and is extra quiet! The oak table in the dining room seats eight & there is a rolling drop-leaf table for additional seating. The refrigerator has in-door ice & water. We’re fully stocked with lots of dinnerware & cooking utensils. Basic cooking supplies are on hand, (spices, flour, corn meal, popcorn, etc.) as well. Also on this level are the powder room & the laundry Energy Star washer & dryer. Just out the back door is a propane grill for doing a bit of outside grilling.

There are four ceiling fans in the home & two separate air handling units to keep the house very comfortable in the summer or winter.

Adjacent to the house & overlooking the lake is a large tree shaded deck with three large pecan trees growing up next to and through the deck, or you can go out on the deck above the boat slip & enjoy the quiet, smooth water early in the morning & the sunsets in the evening.

You can cook out on the gas grill & dine under the stars on the house or boat deck. Outdoor tables on both decks make that easy. Relaxing on the boat deck as dusk falls is the perfect way to end the day. The deck above the boat dock is great for sunning, dining or entertaining. From the boat deck, watch the bats chasing insects in the summer as you enjoy a fabulous Hill Country sunset.

There is plenty of parking for 4-5 vehicles or 4+ your boat trailer. The house is at the end of a private road so there is no traffic (except the neighbors).

Austin generally has a temperate climate year-round, so you can hop aboard your boat & be skiing in minutes, or go swimming off of the dock most of the year. If the water is too cold for you, do some early morning fishing, visit area shopping or just do some serious relaxing.

Families enjoy making this their “home base” when in town for weddings or family reunions. It is a good place, too, for the bride & groom's first night as a married couple. How romantic to be right on the lake to enjoy your first married night & morning.

If this sounds too good to be true, well, this is our second home & we love it, so we may be a little biased. We hope you will build great memories as has our family through the years.

About Mark Hastings

Hastings House is owned by the Hastings siblings- Annette, Mark & Scott. We all stayed in the Austin area, and all enjoy spending time at Hastings House with our friends and family, too. We hope you enjoy it as much as do we.

Why Mark Hastings chose Austin

Our parents bought the property over 50 years ago based on the beautiful sunset views. The house was built in 1984. It is close enough to town that it is convenient to get to, yet far enough so that you can still get away.

What makes this house unique

Privacy with the constant level lake just a few feet away. A bit of Austin history in the old bricks from Congress Avenue over the fireplace.

At Hastings House, it is easy to forget your cares and just relax.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Such a beautiful view! The sunsets were gorgeous! The house worked perfectly for our three generations of family! We zipped right into town for the Longhorn game on Saturday :) Thank you for allowing us into your home!

Great Thanksgiving Rental Home.

  • 5 of 5

Disclaimer: I did not stay in the house - I rented it for my parents and aunt to stay in over Thanksgiving.

My boyfriend's folks live in the same neighborhood as this rental home -- please be aware that this neighborhood is about 30 minutes from downtown Austin and is 100% residential. There are no street lights and some of the house numbers / street names are really difficult to read when traveling/driving at night. My folks got lost two or three times the first day or two, but then found their way around pretty easily. Again, it was perfect for us, location wise, because most of the get-togethers were at my bf's parents' place, which was less than a mile away.

The house: from what I could tell, it was really well stocked. Condiments in the fridge and shampoo/conditioner items in the bathrooms. Mark, the owner, also left us some fresh, homemade banana bread for the arrival and my folks raved about it. I'm pretty sure it was gone in 24 hours. The house is pretty much out of the nineties / early 2000s and you can tell it's primarily a rental home. There's a funky half bath with mirrors on the ceiling and the toaster plays disney music when the toast is finished (which is hilarious...but when you're trying to be quiet in the morning, it's a little difficult).

The layout is also a bit funky, but it works for people who are related. The master bedroom is a loft and overlooks the living area. There's a good private bedroom with a queen bed and a little bathroom off of it. Then the third bedroom had two twins and I suppose that bedroom can either share the bathroom in the master loft (which requires walking through the loft to get to) or the little bathroom down a small flight of stairs, which would be shared with the other private bedroom. Again, funky. But it works. It would be tough, I think, for multiple people who are not related or close.

The lake: is awesome. We were there in the winter, but the lake is one of the best waterskiing / wakeboarding lakes around Austin. (PS. It's not a real lake, but Austin decided to dam up parts of the Colorado river to make "lakes" and calls them all such, even though it's technically a river). ANYWAYS, the lake is sweet. I can see how the house would be awesome in the summer time for those with boats. There's also a nice little deck area on top of the boat dock so you can really get on top of the water.

Will definitely keep in mind for future family get-togethers.

Great weekend Lake Austin kayaking and swimming.

  • 4 of 5

Nice property in a quiet neighborhood with a nice boat dock for kayaking and swimming. Terrific views of the lake and the sunset. Mark was very responsive to questions and left a dozen fresh eggs from his chickens for us in the fridge. Super easy arrival and departure.

Hidden gem. Located on the best part of Lake Austin for skiing! Amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

We booked the Hastings House for an entire week to celebrate mine and my wife's birthdays. The house is located on some of the best water for skiing on Lake Austin. Its only 5 minutes to Ski Shores Café by boat for some great food, and Austin's famous Hula Hut is only a 15 minute boat ride away. Lake Austin Marina provides fuel 24/7 so no need to bring gas cans for your water toys . The dock and boat lift was a huge plus. Our 21 ft. inboard ski boat fit on the lift perfectly. We were on the water every morning at sun rise. We finished off each evening sitting on the deck above the boat dock watching the sun sets. The house is clean and cozy with everything you could possibly need. The owner is very responsive. The gas grill had a problem on one of our first nights there. Mr. Hastings came at 9am the next morning with a brand new grill to replace it! Amazing home and a 5 star experience. The house is everything the owner promises and more. We are already making plans to stay for next year.

Lake life at the Hastings House is the bext

  • 5 of 5

My family wanted to have a fun lake trip before the school year started for the little ones. We search for a house that would accommodate 8 adults and provide a relaxing getaway. The Hasting House was it. A beautiful home with history, the family obviously loves this place. It was spacious and accommodated every need, you could just feel the good energy. From towels, to kitchen layout to a boat dock -- we literally had everything you need.

We would so recommend staying at the Hastings House; we'll definitely be rebooking again. Also Mark Hastings was wonderful. He ensured I received the code for the house, accommodated an early checkin and even called to let us know one of our guests left their wallet! We appreciate all his kindness and letting us use the home. Don't hesitate book your stay today.
