This four bedroom log home is located on 26 wooded acres in Lyon County, Kentucky, a half mile from beautiful Barkley/Kentucky Lakes, one of the largest man-made lakes in the U.S.; with a launch for your boat, 1/2 to 3 miles from the cabin. There are four marinas in close proximity.
Rental boats are available including house boats. Boat, fish, ski, wake board, picnic, or enjoy lunch at waterside restaurants.
You can enjoy your own 5 acre lake on the property, stocked with bass, bluegill, and catfish, or just relax at the boat house or on the screened in porch. Available for your use is a canoe, small fishing boat with trolling motor, water bike, and swimming; all kid friendly.
'Paradise', whether '5' or '85'. Open field for other activities such as volley ball, baseball, or football. Use your imagination.
I retired in 1995 and built this property a few years later. I am a fly fisherman and enjoy KY and Barkely Lakes and take my ranger boat out often. One thing I love to do here is have my annual fish fry and music jam sometime in May. We catch our own fish and pot luck the rest. I've been a hunter and the mounts in the lodge reflect some of my treasures.
William Parker purchased this lodge in 1998
I wanted some place the family could use with or without me. I owned boats and when I gave that up I needed a new hobby. My grandchildren all are in to sports but I could always pull them back to nature when we stayed over at the lake lodge whether it was catching a frog or a lizard, even harmless snakes. We had scavenger hunts, buried treasure finds, caught their first fish, played 'king of the mountain', had campfires, hikes, water bike rides and so much more.
It is a 26 acre playground. A 5 acre lake with 2 canoes, a fishing boat, a water bike, a fire pit and tree house that my grandson and I built. I don't know of anything to compare it to. It is close to restaurants and an abundant of attractions. The lakes are just a half mile away for launching a boat and that opens a whole new world.
I just do not know where to begin! I was looking for an extra special place to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. This was so unexpected, it was all I was looking for and more! The lodge and property, is just amazingly beautiful, it is hard to imagine that someone who has put so much of themselves into a place like this would be willing to share it with anyone, but thank you a million times! My parents and our family had the most amazing week! We love the outdoors, and have fishing boats, and had intended to spend quite a bit of time on Lakes Barkley and Kentucky. We did go a couple of days, but found there was so much to do right at Parker Lake, and the surrounding area that we enjoyed just being there! We spent an afternoon in the Land Between the Lakes, and all the little towns and shops along the way! We spent hours at the little antique mall the Parkers suggested, and found all sorts of treasures! We caught bass and bluegill and enjoyed them with steaks on the grill, and just enjoyed each other while playing games at the big table! The boys swam, kayaked and enjoyed the trails, and the older folks enjoyed the peace, and beautiful views! We were so pleased and our parents overjoyed! We are just in love with this property! Again, thanks so much to the Parkers for their hospitality, and the chance to enjoy such an amazing home! We would very much like to visit again!
I almost hate writing this review because the next time I want it, it may not be available. This was our second stay at the lodge and it is awesome. I can't say enough about this home. All amenities are available and there is room for everyone. It's very private yet you are close to stores, restaurants, Land Between the Lakes. The lake, frog pond, hiking trails, tree house, bonfire area were all used and very much enjoyed. We ranged in age from 65 to 6 and there is something for everyone. And the 'toys', kayak, canoe, fishing boat, water bike and sail board are such a nice addition. There were 12 of us, and we all had the best time. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Parker for the use of your fabulous home. We will be back again. I give this place a 20 out of 10!!
This property and home are so VERY pretty and peaceful. We loved staying in a private setting where we could enjoy a restful vacation. We cooked almost all our meals at the lodge using the cooking utensils, pans, dishes provided. We loved the dining area and screened in porch, both with the lake view. The owners were very responsive to our questions during our visit. We recommend this property and would stay here again given the opportunity.
We stayed with my family, and a couple from England. It was all the VRBO site says it is, and then some. What a wonderful and relaxing vacation place. We tried to experience it all, but one week isn't enough. Our English couple just couldn't believe that it all belonged to us. We all couldn't get enough of sitting on the balcony and enjoying the peaceful quite. We fished, and had a dinner of Bass and Blue Gill we caught at the dock. ( one large bass and 12 blue gill). If you have a family, and are retired, like us, this is as good as it gets. My daughter, a tri-athelete competetor made laps around the island. I made laps, but in the provided boat, with trolling motor. to catch some fish. It doesn't get better than this. Every day we discovered something new. The owners are the greatest. Thank you, Thank you, Thank, you.
That is how our grandkids described our stay. The place had everything. The kids loved playing on the lake and fishing. We loved relaxing, especially sitting on the screen-porch at night. The owners were excellent to work with and extremely hospitable. Land Between the Lakes has numerous attractions and is minutes away. The two refrigerators really helped cut down on trips to the grocer, but even that was not far.
Our family retreat included us (late 60s), our son and daughter-in-law (mid 40s), and four granddaughters (late teens). We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
For us, the real draw of this rental was the private, secluded 5-acre lake. We enjoyed the lake everyday even though we had to work it in between rain storms a few days. The water was clear and clean and just the right temperature. We were amazed at the diversity of water equipment that was provided. The only downside was that the lakeside deck chairs were rather flimsy plastic and most of them were broken though still useable.
We enjoyed the frog pond and had a weenie roast with s’mores at the campfire area. We saw deer several times and one evening were treated to a spectacular display of lightning bugs in the mist-shrouded woods.
The lodge was clean and well-maintained. In addition to the master suite, the main floor includes the living room, a well-equipped kitchen, a dining room, a laundry room, a second full bath, a screened-in porch and a spacious deck. The dining room accommodated all eight of us (with a mixture of chairs and stools) and doubled as a game room during some of the rainy periods during our stay. The living room has comfortable seating for seven and a high cathedral ceiling with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake. The loft is opposite the windows and quite private.
The deck is spacious and offers a grand view of the lake and surrounding woods. Part of the railing was dangerously weak but the owner was in the process of making repairs. I found the Adirondack chairs surprisingly comfortable but they needed some scraping and a new coat of paint.
The lower level contains the deer, bear, and duck bedrooms, a full bath, and a family room. The deer and bear bedrooms do not have windows which may be a problem for some. The selection of videos and games is minimal so bring your own.
The lodge has an abundance of stuffed wildlife. The living room is devoted primarily to mammals and birds. Many of the birds are cleverly mounted from the ceiling as though in flight. The dining room contains trophy fish caught by members of the owner’s family. In these and the other rooms, we would spot something almost every day that we hadn’t noticed before.
In summary, we found the property to be as described and would certainly recommend it to others. As our daughter-in-law put it, the Parker Lodge was a blessing to us all.
For the nature lover, hike the trails around the lake or to the frog pond. Climb a tree before a game of horse shoes on the levee or a scavenger hunt in the woods. Pets are welcome outdoors only and that is where they want to be. A 6x8 kennel is convenient for their safety when you leave the property and for sleeping in the dog house.
