About William Parker

I retired in 1995 and built this property a few years later. I am a fly fisherman and enjoy KY and Barkely Lakes and take my ranger boat out often. One thing I love to do here is have my annual fish fry and music jam sometime in May. We catch our own fish and pot luck the rest. I've been a hunter and the mounts in the lodge reflect some of my treasures.

William Parker purchased this lodge in 1998

Why William Parker chose Kentucky

I wanted some place the family could use with or without me. I owned boats and when I gave that up I needed a new hobby. My grandchildren all are in to sports but I could always pull them back to nature when we stayed over at the lake lodge whether it was catching a frog or a lizard, even harmless snakes. We had scavenger hunts, buried treasure finds, caught their first fish, played 'king of the mountain', had campfires, hikes, water bike rides and so much more.

What makes this lodge unique

It is a 26 acre playground. A 5 acre lake with 2 canoes, a fishing boat, a water bike, a fire pit and tree house that my grandson and I built. I don't know of anything to compare it to. It is close to restaurants and an abundant of attractions. The lakes are just a half mile away for launching a boat and that opens a whole new world.

My parents 50th!!

  • 5 of 5

I just do not know where to begin! I was looking for an extra special place to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. This was so unexpected, it was all I was looking for and more! The lodge and property, is just amazingly beautiful, it is hard to imagine that someone who has put so much of themselves into a place like this would be willing to share it with anyone, but thank you a million times! My parents and our family had the most amazing week! We love the outdoors, and have fishing boats, and had intended to spend quite a bit of time on Lakes Barkley and Kentucky. We did go a couple of days, but found there was so much to do right at Parker Lake, and the surrounding area that we enjoyed just being there! We spent an afternoon in the Land Between the Lakes, and all the little towns and shops along the way! We spent hours at the little antique mall the Parkers suggested, and found all sorts of treasures! We caught bass and bluegill and enjoyed them with steaks on the grill, and just enjoyed each other while playing games at the big table! The boys swam, kayaked and enjoyed the trails, and the older folks enjoyed the peace, and beautiful views! We were so pleased and our parents overjoyed! We are just in love with this property! Again, thanks so much to the Parkers for their hospitality, and the chance to enjoy such an amazing home! We would very much like to visit again!

Owner's Response: Dear Guest, I will not use your name out of respect for your privacy but I know who stayed at the "Ultimate Getaway" and celebrated your parents fabulous 5oth Wedding Anniversary.Congratulations again and we are touched you selected us as your destination. I want you to know that the sweet comments are appreciated and the manner in which you left the lodge is VERY appreciated. We strive to maintain it but it can be a challenge when one family leaves and another is coming the same day. So thank you for that! Especially glad you liked the antique mall, the owners are nice and keep it so clean and organized, so many treasures.... even found some that are in the lodge. The lakes are awesome to boat on and the fishing usually good as you found out. Land Between the lakes is a wonderful day trip. Please come back as I always honor your original contract price. Remind me you are returning even if it is five years and we had a slight increase, it won't apply to you. P.S. I don't know if you brought little children but just yesterday we brought in new sand for the small beach where toddlers play. Thanks again, Jane Parker

Absolutely Wonderful Spot

  • 5 of 5

I almost hate writing this review because the next time I want it, it may not be available. This was our second stay at the lodge and it is awesome. I can't say enough about this home. All amenities are available and there is room for everyone. It's very private yet you are close to stores, restaurants, Land Between the Lakes. The lake, frog pond, hiking trails, tree house, bonfire area were all used and very much enjoyed. We ranged in age from 65 to 6 and there is something for everyone. And the 'toys', kayak, canoe, fishing boat, water bike and sail board are such a nice addition. There were 12 of us, and we all had the best time. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Parker for the use of your fabulous home. We will be back again. I give this place a 20 out of 10!!

Owner's Response: Tears in my eyes....your family loves it like our family does. Had my 13 year old grandson to lunch with his friend yesterday and he was telling him all about it and invited him to go with him sometime. He was so proud of everything it does offer and I enjoyed hearing it described in his words. I hope yours went to their friends and did the same. Wonderful memories and life time experiences. We love hearing you brag on all there is to do so we know you utilized every inch!! And so right that there is something for everyone even if grandma is 85 and sits on the screened in porch listening to nature or the sounds of her grandchildren laughing on the lake. She can even see them from there. Please come back and we try hard to accommodate our returns and we have several....some every year...some more than once in a year and some every other year. We have two musical groups that come together with friends from different places to play and even record. The feature that they love is just the setting that is so comforting as they take in the ambiance of the lodge and view, each other and their music. Thank you for this lovely review and p.s. if you remind me you are a return, we never raise the price. But we have only gone up once in five years anyway and it was minimal. Our goal is to be able to maintain it and add fun things for us all to enjoy. If the good Lord is willing and you bless us with your comments, we should be able to let it provide awesome vacations for years to come.

Peaceful, Private, and Enjoyable!!

  • 5 of 5

This property and home are so VERY pretty and peaceful. We loved staying in a private setting where we could enjoy a restful vacation. We cooked almost all our meals at the lodge using the cooking utensils, pans, dishes provided. We loved the dining area and screened in porch, both with the lake view. The owners were very responsive to our questions during our visit. We recommend this property and would stay here again given the opportunity.

Owner's Response: It is always a pleasure to assist our guests in fully enjoying our lodge, lake and private property. There is also a great deal to explore around the area with two large public lakes, golf courses, wineries, horseback riding and many good restaurants. BUT if it is peace, quiet, nature enjoyment, and privacy you prefer, than we have that right there at the lodge. Often guests tell us they never left during their stay. Sitting on the screened-in-porch is a treat just by listening to the "sounds of nature", plus from there.... you can see the activity of the "children of all ages"..... playing at the lake. We appreciate comments and suggestions for improvement and love guests who come every year!! Thank you for visiting us and please come back.

Blown Away

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with my family, and a couple from England. It was all the VRBO site says it is, and then some. What a wonderful and relaxing vacation place. We tried to experience it all, but one week isn't enough. Our English couple just couldn't believe that it all belonged to us. We all couldn't get enough of sitting on the balcony and enjoying the peaceful quite. We fished, and had a dinner of Bass and Blue Gill we caught at the dock. ( one large bass and 12 blue gill). If you have a family, and are retired, like us, this is as good as it gets. My daughter, a tri-athelete competetor made laps around the island. I made laps, but in the provided boat, with trolling motor. to catch some fish. It doesn't get better than this. Every day we discovered something new. The owners are the greatest. Thank you, Thank you, Thank, you.

Owner's Response: This particular group of guests used the property in the way it was designed. Yay! Always a pleasure to share with people who enjoyed the "Ultimate Getaway" so much. The stocked lake is my husband's pride and joy...he always loves to hear success stories about catching fish. Then to hear they were cooked and eaten, even better. Thank you to the Mount family for sharing their personal experience with us . We certainly hope to see them in the future. The Parkers

Best vacation ever

  • 5 of 5

That is how our grandkids described our stay. The place had everything. The kids loved playing on the lake and fishing. We loved relaxing, especially sitting on the screen-porch at night. The owners were excellent to work with and extremely hospitable. Land Between the Lakes has numerous attractions and is minutes away. The two refrigerators really helped cut down on trips to the grocer, but even that was not far.

Owner's Response: It makes our day when a guest family seeks out what is available and enjoys the "Ultimate "Getaway" this much. Just mention a desire to fish and my husband wants to contribute his knowledge and expertise to make sure the most is gotten from his stocked lake. I believe this family was adventurous enough to use the lake and lodge to their full advantage much like we do as a family. I love the screened in porch for my morning coffee and being close enough there to hear the sounds of grand kids playing on and in the lake. Thank you for letting us know it was a special time for your family. The Parkers

A Fantastic Family Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our family retreat included us (late 60s), our son and daughter-in-law (mid 40s), and four granddaughters (late teens). We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

For us, the real draw of this rental was the private, secluded 5-acre lake. We enjoyed the lake everyday even though we had to work it in between rain storms a few days. The water was clear and clean and just the right temperature. We were amazed at the diversity of water equipment that was provided. The only downside was that the lakeside deck chairs were rather flimsy plastic and most of them were broken though still useable.

We enjoyed the frog pond and had a weenie roast with s’mores at the campfire area. We saw deer several times and one evening were treated to a spectacular display of lightning bugs in the mist-shrouded woods.

The lodge was clean and well-maintained. In addition to the master suite, the main floor includes the living room, a well-equipped kitchen, a dining room, a laundry room, a second full bath, a screened-in porch and a spacious deck. The dining room accommodated all eight of us (with a mixture of chairs and stools) and doubled as a game room during some of the rainy periods during our stay. The living room has comfortable seating for seven and a high cathedral ceiling with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake. The loft is opposite the windows and quite private.

The deck is spacious and offers a grand view of the lake and surrounding woods. Part of the railing was dangerously weak but the owner was in the process of making repairs. I found the Adirondack chairs surprisingly comfortable but they needed some scraping and a new coat of paint.

The lower level contains the deer, bear, and duck bedrooms, a full bath, and a family room. The deer and bear bedrooms do not have windows which may be a problem for some. The selection of videos and games is minimal so bring your own.

The lodge has an abundance of stuffed wildlife. The living room is devoted primarily to mammals and birds. Many of the birds are cleverly mounted from the ceiling as though in flight. The dining room contains trophy fish caught by members of the owner’s family. In these and the other rooms, we would spot something almost every day that we hadn’t noticed before.

In summary, we found the property to be as described and would certainly recommend it to others. As our daughter-in-law put it, the Parker Lodge was a blessing to us all.

The lodge includes a well equipped kitchen, gas grill, and fascinating restaurants close by if cooking is not on your schedule. The lodge is decorated with animals, birds, and fish trophies. 'Mr. Moose' hangs on the stone fireplace upstairs in the gathering room and bear rugs hug the floors. 'Mr. Deer' settled over the downstairs fireplace. Wrap around deck with lake view, also seen from screened in porch, dining room, and lower patio with picnic tables. Bring a book, listen for the sounds of nature and catch a few rays. Seasonal enjoyment; the wood-burning fireplaces have ample wood supplied for the winter months, spring delights with mild weather and blossoming dogwoods, summer provides outdoor activities around the lake and fall changes to breath-taking foliage and cool evening camp fires. Unique In Every Way.
