The Alexander Currens Farmhouse (c.1799) is located on the southern end of the Gettysburg Battlefield. In July 1863, it sat in the crossfire between the Union and Confederate troops on the Second Day of the Gettysburg campaign.
The winner of the 2009 restoration award by Historic Gettysburg, Adams County, the house sits quietly today, a 5 minute bike ride from Little Round Top, Devil's Den, and the new Visitor's Center. The house is furnished with comfortable antiques. It has three bedrooms, two with queen size beds and the third with a full size bed. The house has a new kitchen, a quiet study and living room. Every room has its own fireplace, and gas-fired stove. (The house also has central air.) There are two full baths, one with a combined shower/tub, and the other with a deep antique soaking tub. The second floor porch, equipped with comfortable chairs, overlooks the National Park. A brick patio, surrounding the old well, provides a lovely outdoor dining space.
Hopefully a Truly Memorable Experience: We hope we have created a lovely environment for those coming to explore Gettysburg. Relying on our own experience in renting private homes, we have purposefully used very nice linens and mattresses. We have also equipped the house with a nice music, and an extensive video library. A gas light greets you on your arrival.
We also provide complete book with suggested day trips, good restaurants, and other things that will make your stay enjoyable. For those who sew (a family passion of ours) we have stocked the house with Ott lights, a nice sewing machine, and a number of other useful items. We also give you directions to some of the great local fabric stores, many of which sell reproduction civil war materials.
We want your stay to be memorable, so if there is anything else you would need, please -- just ask.
Also,if you are looking to explore Central Pennsylvania, we have a number of historic homes in the area and we offer combined stays among them. We offer stays where you move from one house to another, or the other option is to reserve two houses and bounce back and forth. Call us or email us for more information.
Thank you for sharing your "dream house" with us. I am not sure how you ever left it, as after only one week we are having a difficult time leaving it! ;)
We spent the week doing the perfect combination of sight seeing, Eisenhower house, trip to the Civil War Museums in Harrisburg, Lancaster, walks through the cemeteries. MANY walks through the park/battlefield, and relaxing here, walking the grounds, watering the plants and flowers, which was actually enjoyable and drinking coffee and relaxing on the upstairs balcony...resting, resting, resting!!
Ken is a guitar maker and spent many hours out on theatio working on his present project...a rosewood acoustic guitar. What a peaceful place to work!
We appreciate how well stocked the home is with various amenities.
We hope to come back
My family stayed here for a four day historic vacation. Wow! We were so impressed by the beautiful house. It is very clean, with updated amenities, and yet filled with antiques and historic atmosphere. My teenaged girls especially liked the soaker tub on the main floor, and we all appreciated the excellent wifi reception. I appreciated the ample towels, clean linens basics in the pantry. There was even coffee!
Michael, the property manager was extremely helpful and accommodating. He made check in and check out a breeze!
Thanks again for the wonderful stay. We will be back!
I rented this lovely home for my husband's birthday weekend. We had a great time in Gettysburg and the surrounding area. This home is well equipped and comfortable. The road noise is rather annoying, especially if sitting on the great second floor porch. Also, there is a helicopter service business across the street and that can be a real distraction! We took our sound machine, so sleeping was not a problem. The kitchen is lovely and has a few staples there (salt, pepper, spices, coffee filters). The wi-fi was easy to use and there is television and a dvd player. The library is a great room for reading and needlework, even has an ott light! My one suggestion to the owners would be to have porch seating for at least 4 people and some lawn chairs so sitting downstairs would be easy. Overall a great experience.
Beautifully renovated and maintained historic property within walking distance to battlefields and very close to town. Lots of room to spread out and many gas fireplaces to enjoy. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to experience the history of Gettysburg in a home rather than a hotel. We hope to be back again.
We leased the Alexander Currens farmhouse for the weekend and we were very happy with this home and our stay. The homes interior is comfortable with its use of color, antiques and updated modern amenities. We will be staying at this home again when we visit Gettysburg this Fall.
We loved this house. We used it for our wedding we had our ceremony and cocktail hour at the house. Everyone told us it was so beautiful. They have allowed us to have our wedding in the place we love most. We can not wait to rent it again to remember the best day of our lives. We would recommend renting this house to everyone who wants a wonderful visit to Gettysburg. Thank you again for the best time of our lives!
From the moment we arrived, we felt like the farmhouse was a second home. Somehow the farmhouse has retained the beauty and feel of an 1800s home with the modern conveniences of a 21st century home. Beds were exceptionally comfortable and everything was spotless. We enjoyed reading about the home (on the National Register of Historic Homes) and what happened to it through the years including the Battle of Gettysburg. It was quiet, clean, well-maintained and homey. The owners/property managers were very professional and accommodating. Walking distance to the Gettysburg National Park and less than one hour from Hershey and about two hours from Washington D.C. I recommend this wonderful home to any traveler. Breakfast at the Lincoln Diner and enjoy dinner at the Fransworth Pub/Tavern where you can see the largest single display of memorabilia from the Gettysburg movie. Am recommending to many friends and family.
