The location half way between Bryce Canyon National Park and Zion National Park as well as Cedar Breaks made this unit very convenient. The store opened at 7 and closed by 9 so the noise from the store below was not an issue. The room was spacious. A bigger refrigerator would have been nice as well as a real stove (heat plate). It was clean and the shower was fine. It was advertised with a barbecue grill, but there wasn't one there. Could be that the ownership changed recently. Had a bit of difficulty getting in as we were given the wrong code, but thankfully someone called within ten minutes. Glad we didn't arrive after dark! There is some road noise as it sits at the intersection of route 89 and 14. After hiking all day, that was not a problem. Overall it was just what we needed and the price was excellent!
The cabin was a great fit for us. We had everything we needed. A bit awkward with the hotplates for cooking, but otherwise clean, quiet and we'll located between Zion & Bryce. Cold at night...maybe bring a small space heater?
We spent 3 nights in this studio and had a great time. It is about 45 minutes from Bryce and the drive is beautiful. The studio has a fine king-size bed, a microwave, fridge and washer & dryer. It is rather remote and the store has some food to go or heat in the microwave and an impressive selection of beer, but the closest restaurant is in Duck Creek Village about 15 miles toward Cedar City. Wine or liquor should be picked up at a state store in one of the larger towns. This place is perfect for a couple visiting the parks.
I was curious about the layout when booking because there are only a few pics, so here’s a description: When you walk in the front door, you are facing the kitchen sink. To the left is a dining table with 4 chairs. The studio is L-shaped and extends to the right of the kitchen counter. To the right: a tall dresser with the TV on top, bed, futon, and bathroom.
The studio was clean (floors, counters, bathroom, and shower). The sheets were clean but had a baseball-sized tear on the fitted sheet near my head, and the comforter was in need of cleaning. The bed was very cozy, and the futon was nice for lounging and watching TV. There was only one sharp knife and no cutting board, can opener, or bottle opener – unless we just couldn’t find them. We cut things on a plate and used a multi tool from our glove box for the rest. The coffee maker was nice, large, and programmable.
The store downstairs woke us up early in the morning, but it was only really bad on one day. There were two women talking and laughing loudly, and it seemed like it was right out the door (there is a door that connects to the store next to the bathroom door). It was annoying because it lasted so long that it made falling back asleep impossible. If you’re not an early riser (plus there was -1 hour time difference for us), this might be an issue. There were random noises or mumbling heard from downstairs when we were there during business hours, but that was no problem. After closing, it was very quiet. There was no heat on in the evening. As noted in other reviews, the heat/AC is controlled by the store. But there was a small heater that worked well for us, and there was a box fan for summer.
The closest town is Duck Creek Village with a couple places to eat. We wanted to try Hot Mama’s Pizza & Brew, but it burnt down in September. The location is remote and the nearby “towns” do not have much, if anything. Nearly every restaurant or store we saw was closed until you get close to Bryce or Zion or over the hill in Cedar City, but that road is closed once the snow starts. We were glad that we had planned ahead and brought food – and that there was a gas station nearby because there is nothing for miles. We would recommend this place and stay again. If your group is of 4 people, you better be really good friends because it's tight quarters!
Easy location to Bryce, Zion, Cedar Breaks. Unit is adequate, but very limited on cooking facilities. We had 3 adults, and it worked for us. Road to the unit could use some grading, so be careful when driving up/from the studio. Weather was beautiful, and the area is nice.
The king studio was very nice and reasonably well equipped. It is a great place to stay if you plan on visiting both Bryce and Zion as well as the other parks in the area. The studio may feel out of the way but it really worked for being able to go either direction and for the price could not be beat. Being above the store was not bad, there was a little noise but got used to it by the second night. Listen to the hosts when they say to pick up supplies before. The store downstairs has some stuff but we needed to go find a larger store. They were also very informative about what was in the area and that there is not much. We did find the cute diner in Duck Creek - Aunt Sue's Chalet - and would recommend going there if you need to grab a meal. The washer and dryer are a HUGE plus!! My only complaint is that the temperature in the studio is controlled by the store so it was chilly in the room in the evening because of the need to air condition the store. The staff was very nice about accommodating our request to shut it down but it is something to be aware of. That being said we would absolutely stay there again.
