Oasis in Centro Historico

My family and I came to Oaxaca with another family to share the holidays together. I stayed on longer after they left with two other friends to do printmaking. We loved Casa Blanca! It is a perfect location to base your exploration of Oaxaca and the surrounding area. The courtyard/home is nestled behind the wall that keeps street noise out. When you enter it feels quiet and completely private. Cynthia, the owner, has beautiful specimen trees and potted plants everywhere, bougainvillea, azaleas, figs, succulents, cactus, frangipani, citrus, cacti, lemongrass, bird of paradise, jasmine with migrating birds, hummingbirds, and geckos flitting about. You could just park yourself in the courtyard and be happy...but there are too many amazing things to see and do around Oaxaca.

The kitchen is the central hub in the house, light, airy and gorgeous. There is a lovely outdoor table and plenty of loungers and seats. The roof above the two annexed bathrooms has a wonderful all around view of Oaxaca, where we hung our laundry to dry. The annexed bathrooms are fully appointed with tiled walk-in showers. The laundry room is great. The casa itself is spacious, tastefully decorated and the beds very comfortable. The spiral staircase was not an issue for me, and because I packed lightly, it was no problem taking my luggage up to the room. I stayed in the casa for almost a month and loved every minute of it. You do need to bring earplugs for the nightclub as it turns up the bass and volume after 10pm Friday and Saturday nights only. We were in the room closest to the club, and I had no problem sleeping. This and the spiral staircase should not deter you from considering this gorgeous place.

Cynthia, the owner, and Arturo, the caretaker were impressively responsive and helpful. Arturo met us at the Casa at midnight when we arrived and helped us get oriented. He speaks very good English. He was always available for anything we needed and also gave us some great suggestions on things to do.

After a long day of exploring Oaxaca, you open the beautiful wooden doors to Casa Blanca and feel like you are in a quiet paradise. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

More than ample space for a large group, there were 7 of us. Love the garden space. Stairs to bedrooms are a little challenging but we all got used to them. Good location. My only wish is that the WiFi was more reliable.

Wonderful hIde away in the centre of everything!

What a gorgeous property! It is so closet to everything you want to do; the tourist corridor, markets, galleries, and shops. When one opens the doors you walk right into a beautiful garden which is the main courtyard. We spent all of our time here and in the kitchen which is the heart of the house. The caretaker , Arturo is very attentive and there to help with anything that you ask for / need. I highly recommend this house!

This house is so exquisite - it is like opening a wonderful present. The garden is at the center of the house and is beautiful and lush with a wonderful lime tree and beautiful flowering plants. The house is clean and very well maintained - all the beds are very comfortable and the ambiance is one of elegant comfort. Great services are provided and I would definitely recommend this property to anyone traveling to Oaxaca. I want to come back! It is within walking distance of just about everything in the old city - wonderful restaurants and markets.

Sublime Sanctuary

A mixed group (relatives, friends, couple, singles) of us spent a week here and it was fantastic! The house was so comfortable and pleasant to return to after exploring the area each day. We would go to the nearby mercado each morning for Oaxaca cheese, fresh fruits, and pastries to start our days. There are so many restaurants within walking distance. We hired tour guides for two of the days and would highly recommend both of them! Luis Ramirez took us to Monte Alban, El Tule, a mezcal producer (with lunch), and a fantastic weaver. Check him out at luisramireztours dot com. We also toured with Juan Montes-Lara (oaxacatourguide dot com) to black clay pottery and wood carvings. You can't go wrong with either of them! Both know the history of the area and were so happy to share their knowledge with us. Both also picked us up promptly at the appointed time and delivered us safely back. This house is on a busy street, but just pop through the door into the fabulous courtyard and tranquility awaits! None of us ever felt insecure in our travels, and we logged lots of foot miles. This is the perfect hub for touring the area. The kitchen provided everything we needed for our breakfasts and snacks. The restaurants were so fantastic, we ate dinner out every night! Arturo welcomed us to the home and was available to us if we needed him. You cannot go wrong with this rental unless you don't do stairs. The bedrooms are all upstairs, accessed by spiral staircases. We had no problems, but it could be difficult for travelers with young children or folks with disabilities.
