We had an incredable stay in the Condo (and to think we considered camping)! Utah is a place we definantly will return to. Beautiful beyond imagination!!
The unit was spacious for our family of 4. It was clean, comfortable, and adequate for our needs. Having a washer and dryer was a big plus as we didn't have to pack too many clothes. It was a hot and dusty time during our visit and it would've been nice if air conditioning was available. The town of Duck Creek Village is really quiet and small, so if you plan to be back late after spending a long day out it's best to get your supplies and meals before heading "home". Watch out for deer specially when driving at night. The condo is about 50 minutes away from Bryce and 1.5 hours away from Zion National Park's Visitor Center. It's best to get a very early start if heading to Zion.
The house is located in between Zion (1.5 hours away) and Bryce Canyon National Park (1 hour away). It provides flexibility if you don't know in advance how many days to spend in each park. The house is definitely much better than a hotel room or two.
One drawback is that there is no air conditioner in the house. There was an unusual heat wave during the week of our stay. Though the temperature cooled down at night outside of the house, it was still quite hot inside (even with the fans on) and too noisy to keep the windows open during sleep.
Overall we're happy with our stay. Thank you, Amanda!
We were quite a way from the nearest town of Cedar Creek. We drove there and stocked up at Wal-Mart. We did both Zion and Bryce NP from this location. Well stocked kitchen, comfy bedrooms. We were two couples traveling together and it was roomy enough. Just be careful if you're coming into Duck Creek after dark. We came in late one evening after doing the full moon hike at Bryce with a ranger and counted 25 deer on or near the road. We just drove slowly and enjoyed counting.....until we saw so many we lost count.
The condo itself was everything we expected, and included pretty much everything we needed for our visit! Comfortable bed & couch, DirecTV (no HD), and a nice kitchen & bath. Booking was a breeze and follow up communication was perfect! Couldn't have asked for more on our visit to Bryce & Zion!
For future travelers:
Drive time to park visitor's centers; Bryce = 50min, Zion = 1:20. // Perhaps it was because we stayed in early May (off season) but the village appeared to be a ghost town. Nothing was open after 6pm so if we forgot something (milk, gas, beer) the only option was a 30+ minute drive away. Make sure you get everything you need before making the trip home for the night. Also, if you plan on cooking, bring your own spices. // If visiting Bryce, take the 10-minute detour and visit Joe's Market in Panguitch - best grocery store we found, and a fraction of the cost of the markets right outside the park (around $1 for a bunch of bananas at Joe's vs. 2 bananas for the same price at the Ruby's Inn General Store). // Lastly, give yourself plenty of time the morning of checkout (10am) - There's no dishwasher, and all dishes must be washed, dried, and put away. Trash must be collected and dropped off at dumpsters down the road. Towels must be washed (not dried) and beds stripped of sheets. We only used the master bedroom and one set of towels, and it still took us a decent amount of time to pack, clean, and head out.
The condo was a wonderful base to explore the parks of southern Utah. It was great for early morning trips to Bryce and Zion as well as quick trips to Cedar Breaks. Cedar City is a short and pleasant drive and had good options for food. The condo had everything we needed, was clean and comfortable, and was well appointed with all the modern conveniences. An added bonus were the nearby lava fields and fall colors to explore and enjoy. There was lots to see and do, and then it was nice to have a comfortable place to come back to to relax and unwind. I would recommend the condo to my friends and family if they ever head out west.
Had a large project to do for the Dept of Interior Bureau of Land Mangement and needed to commute to Big Water, Paria, Kanab, Cannonville, and Escalante. We choose the Hillside Inn because it was centrally located to all the destinations. Upon arrival we found a well appointed Condo with all the luxuries one would expect from a Mountain Retreat. On the counter was a welcome bag with area souvenirs and even some left over food in the cabinets. You will find one of the biggest challenges in the area is groceries but the place is ready to cook and even includes a grill and fire pit outside. So after the commutes that were as long as and hour and a half we passed all the tourist trap restaurants and made some home cooked food. The ownership checked in with us upon arrival and departure. A truly class act and welcome western hospitality. I'll be back and don't stay anywhere else.
