We are a young family, two lovely kids and a dog. 9 years ago my husband and i traveled through Central America. Traveling through Costa Rica, we came across Cabuya village and fell in love with the place and the people here. Two years later we came back to visit and realize we really don't want to leave. we went back home packed everything with our dog and came to live here in Cabuya.
Noa Segev purchased this house in 2005
Noa & Reem,
Well life is certainly easy here in the Casa. The proximity to twn and still having a deep sense of countryside is just a gift. The birdsong mixes with howler monkey barking in a very singular key at dawn. Wow!
There is nothing like it.
I found the house and pool well designed and simple to care for and relax in. Well done.
We are so excited to get to know you better as we orient down here in our "home town" more and more.
Gracias and good health to your family.
Our family of 4 stayed here for the week of Samana Santa as we wanted a little more seclusion than Santa Teresa or Mal Pais. The house is great. Plenty of space for the 4 of us. The open concept and high ceilings kept it cooler in the main living area. Keeping the bedroom and bathroom doors closed during the day kept it cool for when we were ready to retire without using the air conditioners during the day. The pool is small but, perfect for cooling off and the yard is a really great to lounge in the hammock or on the patio with plenty of privacy. Noa was awesome and gave us tons of information and was very helpful when we arrived early! If you have the chance enjoy some of her husband, Jacob's beer! We felt completely safe and enjoyed Cabuya. Snorkeling and Buying fish from the boats at the walkway to the isle of Cabuya. Watching the game @ Soda Marvin. Only improvement I can think of would be a BBQ outside. It was a fabulous stay and we would definitely come back, Thanks Noa!
We spent 17 nights here. The house itself is fairly secluded with not many neighbours around. That is good, because the privacy and quiet is nice. The back yard is a fair size, and we saw quite a few birds some native animals wander through. One day we watched a troop of 38 howler monkeys go tree to tree in the neighbour’s yard while we were in the pool. There is a mango and papaya tree in the back yard as well, and we were there about 2 weeks early to enjoy the fresh fruit off the tree. Maybe next time…
The house itself was spacious enough for the 2 of us. Not having hot water in the house except for the showers took some getting used to, but that adds to the charm of the visit and life in Costa Rica. The air conditioners in the bedrooms are needed as it does get quite hot every day. We found that leaving the bedroom door closed kept the room cool during the day as well. A barbeque outside would have been nice so we could make supper. The only improvement I would suggest is a new mattress in the master bedroom. The one in there now is quite hard. The pool is not large, but it is definitely a positive to the house. We were in the pool multiple times every day. It is not large enough to swim laps, but it is the perfect size to relax and cool off from the heat. Noa was a great hostess and was available by phone any time you needed her.
Cabuya itself is nice. The restaurants there all serve great food. We did not have one bad meal the entire visit. The house is centrally located to Montezuma, Mal Pais, Santa Theresa and Cobano. A 4x4 vehicle, while not necessary to get around, would be an asset. The roads around Cabuya are not paved and can be quite bumpy, even at slow speeds. We would highly recommend exploring all the area has to offer. It is a truly beautiful area.
The only negative thing I have to say, and again it is no reflection on Noa, we were robbed our last night in Cabuya. Someone cut through the metal bars on the window in the second bedroom, and stole all of our electronics and money while we were out for supper. Thankfully it was our last night there and not our first or second. Noa came to the house as soon as we called her, and was there for us every step of the way for the next 18 hours or so. She translated for us with the police and helped fill out all the reports that were required. My suggestion for the house to hopefully help prevent this in the future would be for a safe to be installed where valuables could be stored.
We were so impressed with this house, the area, and the owners. The house had everything you would need and the owner checked in with us a few times to see how we were enjoying our stay. The local village is wonderful and friendly. It is a trip we will remember forever! We are coming back again soon! Thank you!!!
During the summer of 2013 my wife and I spent one month at the Newville Pool House and we were delighted when it was available the following January for another visit of ten days. The property is very nicely situated within easy walking distance to the shops, markets and restaurants of Cabuya and yet, since it is very secluded, affords a high level of privacy. The ocean is near enough that it can be heard at night. We enjoyed the richness of nature which surrounded us; a troop of howler monkeys often took up residence in a pochote tree next to the house; agoutis played in the back yard while iguanas fed on fallen hibiscus blossoms; flowers draw a multitude of butterflies and hummingbirds; birdlife is profuse. The house itself is beautifully designed, very light and airy, and a genial place to spend time when we were not out availing ourselves of the region's many natural attractions such as the beaches, the Rio Lajas, the Montezuma Waterfall, the nature reserve of Cabo Blanco, and more. We occasionally dined out at any one of the area's excellent restaurants but more often we prepared our meals in the well equipped kitchen and ate in. The bathrooms are more than adequate and the shower in one of them is particularly good. The husband/wife property management team is very gracious and no effort is spared to assure that our stay is as pleasant and comfortable as possible. I would enthusiastically recommend this property to a friend or a relative and we look forward to our next visit.
House was really comfortable and a great place to relax. Noa and her husband were quick to reply if we needed any assistance.
The pool is perfect for kids as it is not too deep and just right for cooling off on a hot day.
Located in a lovely village. Would go back again if we return to Costa Rica!
I did a ton of research on the Montezuma and Cabuya areas before we booked the Newville Pool House. That research definitely paid off, as I believe we ended up in the perfect place for our family.
We are a family of four (kids ages; 2 and 9). We wanted a quiet and peaceful location with a pool. We wanted access to beaches that were toddler friendly. And lastly, we wanted good food and culture close-by. We found all this in Cabuya and Montezuma. While Montezuma is buzzing with (mellow) energy and has a more tourist vibe, Cabuya feels like the end of the earth - a quiet fishing village bordering the Cabo Blanco Reserve - yet had wonderful restaurants and well-stocked markets. Make sure you get to La Panaderia, as well as El Coyote Cafe!
The house is cool and clean, bursting with creative construction, which we really appreciated. Due to the design of the home, the daylight floods in, eliminating the need for artificial light until sunset. The beautiful polished concrete also serves a functional purpose, keeping the house much cooler on the inside - it is also extremely easy to keep clean. Of course, the air-conditioned bedrooms were a welcome bonus. Having two bathrooms was very convenient; one had the more Tico-styled electric heated shower, and the other seemed to be connected to a hot water tank. Both provided nice warm showers! The furnishings and layout of the home was extremely kid-friendly, making for a very happy toddler our entire stay!
Noa and Jacob were very friendly and accommodating. Noa was available by phone at all times, willing to answer questions and address problems right away. When we arrived the pool pump had a leak, which Noa remained on top of until it was fixed. She also invited us to a local event at a beautiful yoga resort, which was a very sweet gesture.
I could go on and on. But perhaps the best testament would be that we plan to return in a couple of months and stay for six weeks! Our family is literally counting down the days!!
On Costa Rica’s ocean side, just between Mal-Pais, Santa Teresa and Montezuma, lies village of Cabuya. A wide unspoiled 3km beach reaches up to the first reserve in Costa Rica, Cabo Blanco. The water we drink in Cabuya comes from the reserve and its the tastiest water you will ever drink. Because the beach in Cabuya is a bit rocky, most of the time you will find the beach very private. You might see the fishermen go out to fish or someone walking in the send and looking for sea glass, shells and colorful stones. Almost everything is in a walking distance. Within 2 minutes walk you will find a bakery, a sushi bar, a lovely Internet cafe, two small local groceries where you will find anything you need from fishing gear to lovely organic fruits and vegetables at very low rates. Several local fishermen sell fresh fish. there are two surf point near by, one for beginners and one for more advanced surfers. Entering Cabuya is the beautiful river 'Rio Lajas' with water falls and swimming pools
