About Julie

I started fishing our local rivers in 1982 & immediately fell in love with them. Over the years I've fished many other areas in B.C., Oregon & California which I have also enjoyed but the rivers here have always been special for me due to the diversity of the watersheds & fish. The rivers here hold very large steelhead & salmon. It's one of the few areas in the U.S. that still has good numbers of native steelhead, fish that go over 30 lbs! After many years of fishing with friends & family I was able to move here in 2004 & become a full time guide. I love my job & really enjoy meeting people from around the world

Julie purchased this lodge in 2007

Why Julie chose Olympic Peninsula

My day job is as a fishing guide so naturally I also wanted acquire a location for my guests to stay at while they were fishing with me or just enjoying the area.

What makes this lodge unique

We are currently staying here and can't say enough about how it exceeded our expectations! First of all the photos are beautiful but they do not translate the size and spaciousness ! Clean, comfortable, inviting and simply what you want from a true lodge on an amazing river! Fishing!!!! You will love it for that proximity alone. This is the best Christmas we can remember! All the amenities you will ever need. Steelhead fishing on a sunny day... December 25th! What more can we say... We will be back!

Wonderful House in Beautiful Surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Our only regret was not being able to stay longer. This house is wonderful. The location is very picturesque, with the Sol Duc river below. We really enjoyed all of the high end furnishings, the outdoor decks and the soaring ceilings. Location is great for the Olympic National Park (Hoh Rain Forest, coastal beaches near La Push, Lake Crescent). Would definitely recommend the house to others looking for a comfortable place to relax after enjoying activities in the nearby wilderness areas.

Spacious and Comfortable for Two Families

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely lovely time in Larry's spacious home. For two families of four it offered tons of space, including a lower level TV room. The great room had a gas fireplace and two large facing couches for conversation plus three cushy recliners for reading and screen time. Unfortunately, there was a burn ban so we did not get to enjoy the fabulous fire pit. Probably the nicest feature was all extra touches -- stacks of plush towels, professional waffle iron, and matching ceramic dishware that made it possible to set a beautiful table. I accidentally broke a coffee cup in the sink and they were so understanding and gracious about it. The kitchen is so well equipped. Tons of empty closets and drawers so it would be easy to stay here for weeks. Finally, the lodge is such a great base for exploring the area. There is a big grocery in Forks. We kayaked and swam at Lake Crescent and we saw magnificent grey whales and a bald eagle at Cape Flattery. We also got the chance to meet Larry in person and he was super warm and friendly. We could not have enjoyed our time there more!

Great Family Getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family was nothing but satisfied with our stay at the Blue Heron Lodge! It was an excellent fit for our large group with the addition of the cabin on the property. We had four adults, 6 teenagers and 1 child. The lodge offered everything we had expected and more. All of the little things were taken care of from extra linens to laundry soap and awesome waffle iron. We enjoyed cooking in the beautiful kitchen as a family and utilized the grill on a daily basis. The property was beautiful. Our first morning on the deck we spotted a mamma and three baby raccoon, so adorable. This became the morning ritual (and a great way to get the kids out of bed) to check on the babies and watch them play in the tree. Down at the river the kids waded in the water after a hot afternoon of sightseeing. In the evenings we played games at the spacious dining table and had a blast. The only downfall of our stay was that it ended too soon! What a wonderful place to make lifelong memories with my family.

Excellent

  • 4 of 5

This is the second time we've stayed at the lodge and have very much enjoyed the location and the lodge. It's on the Sol Duc, close to other rivers, within 30 minutes of the coast, and a plethora of hiking/fishing/boating opportunities.

The lodge itself has most everything you need...pots, pans, knives, roasters, kettles and bowls. Bring what you might feel as essential, but the rest is there.

The management company and owner are extremely responsive and helpful. They want your stay to be first class, and they do their job.

We'll be back again.
