Located on Maui's southwest shore in the heart of beautiful Makena Bay, this single story oceanfront cottage is an island paradise. Built over 40 years ago and remodeled with vintage Hawaiian decor, guests are provided with all the modern conveniences for an incredible vacation.
The large sliding glass doors in the family room open to a deck with a panoramic view of the neighboring islands of Molokini, Kaho'olawa and Lanai. The ocean's high water mark is a mere fifteen feet away! From the spa and the lanai one can enjoy the famous Maui sunsets while watching the large green sea turtles frolicking in the surf. During the winder months, the humpback whales can be seen as they migrate along the coast.
For five years Maui has been named the 'World's Best Island' by the readers of Travel & Leisure Magazine. Conde Nast Travel Magazine has rated Maui the 'Best Island in the World' for twelve consecutive years. Some of the islands best diving and snorkeling are directly in front of you while close by one can enjoy world famous restaurants, golf, tennis, shopping and white sand beaches. The sound of the waves lapping on the rocks plus the star studded nights make this quaint oceanfront cottage the perfect tropical paradise!
Thank you so very much for sharing your piece of paradise with us! We enjoyed every minute here and got the R&R we were seeking.
My wife and I have rented Makena Cottage a couple of times, and it's really incredible. Sea turtles graze on the rocks below the lanai in the evenings. During whale season you can spend your mornings on the lanai sipping coffee and evening sipping wine, watching dozens of humpbacks breaching, tail-slapping, and pectoral fin-slapping. The snorkeling just for the fish in the cove is superb, but if you snorkel just beyond the rock reef you can hear the whales singing—blew me away the first time I heard it. It used to be priced such that it was a push renting the cottage vs a bland hotel room at one of the mega-resorts—affordable for a teacher and a biologist. Alas, with popularity comes booked-out schedules and higher prices. Fondest of memories, though.
What an absolutely gorgeous property! The view from the lanai is so beautiful! We spent a lot of our time outside enjoying the scenery and the hot tub! The kitchen was fully stocked with all of the gadgets we needed to make meals which was great! The area is quiet and there are beaches within walking distance. We snorkeled off of Makena Landing and got to see so many sea turtles! This property is truly a gem and I hope to stay there again soon! Thank you again, Camille and Eric!
This is the most private and romantic place we have stayed at, the cottage was perfect for us the views were spectacular and Eric and Camille were the perfect hosts would recommend this to anyone
We wanted privacy for our 25th wedding anniversary and you couldn't ask for a better place it is the most romantic place we have ever stayed and had the time of our lives. Eric and Camille have thought of everything you could want the home is beautiful and the most amazing setting we got up every night around 2:00 am and sat on the deck and listened to the waves hit the shore a vacation we will never forget
This was our 4th time staying at Makena Oceanfront Cottage. That sentence alone should tell you how we feel about the property. The location is great. The cottage is simple but has everything you could want, from the fully equipped kitchen to the hot tub on the lanai. And you get spectacular sunsets every night. If you are traveling to Maui you should definitely consider staying at Makena Oceanfront Cottage.
We had a fantastic two week stay at this wonderful piece of paradise. The cottage is as described by the owners and is one of the few remaining "authentic" Hawaiian properties available for rent on the beautiful coast alongside Makena. The cottage is a simple style and has everything you need for a peaceful, relaxing stay. It is close to some of the best snorkeling beaches on the island and the turtles feed along the shore right in front of the property. Although the daytime brings many other tourists to the area for snorkeling and kayaking, the evenings are your own. The sunsets are stunning, with the backdrop of the waves hitting the rocks and the sun dropping below the island of Kahoolawe.
This is definitely on our short list for future vacations.
Thanks Camille and Eric for sharing your lovely Hawaiian escape.
