I live in NYC and love to escape upstate to the Hudson Valley. It is a beautiful area, and the perfect distance to make weekend getaways from the city.
Amelia purchased this house in 2006
The Hudson Valley is simply spectacular. Close to NYC, but scenic and rural, the towns in the area all have their own unique charm, which allows an escape from the large, chains stores now ubiquitous in NYC. It is one of my favorite areas to explore and relax. There is always a new experience awaiting.
The house is located about 5 minutes from Lake Taghkanic state park, which has 2 beaches (one with a concession stand) and great hiking trails, one of which circles the lake for about six miles. Boating and kayaking can also be done on the lake.
15 minutes from the house is the city of Hudson, which has dozens of antique shops, bookstores, art galleries, cafes & restaurants, and a couple of movie theatres. Warren street is the highlight.
Also about 15 minutes away is Frederic Church's estate, Olana, which has beautiful views of the Hudson and the Catskills, gardens, and a museum of his home.
Also about 15 minutes away in Ghent, NY, is the Fields Sculpture Park at the OMI International Arts Center with internationally recognized contemporary sculpture thoughtfully curated over 100 acres of farmland.
About 20-25 minutes away are Red Hook and Tivoli, which both have local shops and restaurants, and are close to Bard College, where the Fisher Performing Arts Center is located. 25 minutes away is Rhinebeck (5 minutes past Red Hook on Route 9), which has excellent restaurants, shops, a farmer's market on Saturdays, as well as local artists, and an art house movie theatre.
Directly across the river are Catskill, and the Catskill mountains with incredible hiking trails, and Woodstock.
If you like classical music, Tanglewood, the summer venue for the Boston Symphony Orchestra is about 40 miles away. It is a favorite for the cheap lawn tickets to outdoor concerts on summer nights. Well worth the drive.
I have to second all of that!
It is a truly wonderful house and the views are beyond stunning.
I particularly like the way the mirrorball catches the early afternoon sun.
The house was perfect we had a very relaxing time!
Our stay at the home was for a short weekend over Christmas and it was truly magnificent. The house was well decorated and had anything that you needed or may have forgotten to bring! The space was just beautiful and we really enjoyed our time.
Amelia is also very responsive and left a binder in the home with really useful information about activities in the surrounding area, restaurants, etc. Everything is very well planned out and it made our stay seamless!
Thank you so much for an amazing get away !! the house is very clean , beautiful comfortable and cozy. There was absolutely nothing missing in this house. The owner thought about everything !! From high chair and toys for the little ones to blender and tea pot for the grown ups.
We will definately come again and highly recommend it.
Thanks again !!
Everything was as advertised. A beautiful house on a secluded hill in the woods. We were grandma, grandpa and three adult children spending a rare long weekend together. We will be going back, which is probably the best recommendation I could give.
My friends and I were looking to escape hectic NYC for a weekend upstate, and this was an absolutely perfect location! The cabin is exactly the sort of atmospheric, cozy spot I had romanticized in my mind that we would stay in. I didn't expect to find a place that fulfilled my ideal, but this exceed it. The cabin was clean, beautifully finished, and spacious enough for all of us, and also felt perfectly intimate at night when we cooked together and gathered around the table near the log stove for dinner and games. The view from the living room out over the Catskills in the morning and in the evening is beyond stunning. We were there in mid-December and I can't even begin to imagine how phenomenal it must be in the summer and fall. My friends and I can't wait to go back! The location of the cabin is also incredible. It is set in a tranquil wooded area (I had the most peaceful nights of sleep), and is a quick jaunt into Hudson, which was a charming town. There were endless great surrounding hiking trails to take advantage of. The owners were so friendly and helpful in all of our interactions, and even graciously mailed me a shirt I had accidentally left behind. I can't say enough about this place, you will have a wonderful visit if you stay here. I am looking forward to a sunset G&T on the deck post-hike, looking out over the mountains, come this spring.
Our family spent a relaxing, fun-filled week here. The house is spacious with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms across three levels. The kitchen is well stocked with top of the line appliances and staple items. Plenty of linens are provided and the washer and dryer come in very handy. The view from the huge deck is gorgeous and the sunsets over the mountains are spectacular! The house is convenient to supermarkets and local stores, and is also pet friendly. We really enjoyed antiquing in Hudson and touring in Hyde Park. There are plenty of hiking trails nearby as well as water sports. The owner is extremely easy to work with and provided easy to understand and accurate directions and instructions. I highly recommend this house to anyone who wants relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the city!
