About Amelia

I live in NYC and love to escape upstate to the Hudson Valley. It is a beautiful area, and the perfect distance to make weekend getaways from the city.

Amelia purchased this house in 2006

Why Amelia chose Elizaville

The Hudson Valley is simply spectacular. Close to NYC, but scenic and rural, the towns in the area all have their own unique charm, which allows an escape from the large, chains stores now ubiquitous in NYC. It is one of my favorite areas to explore and relax. There is always a new experience awaiting.

What makes this house unique

The house is located about 5 minutes from Lake Taghkanic state park, which has 2 beaches (one with a concession stand) and great hiking trails, one of which circles the lake for about six miles. Boating and kayaking can also be done on the lake.

15 minutes from the house is the city of Hudson, which has dozens of antique shops, bookstores, art galleries, cafes & restaurants, and a couple of movie theatres. Warren street is the highlight.

Also about 15 minutes away is Frederic Church's estate, Olana, which has beautiful views of the Hudson and the Catskills, gardens, and a museum of his home.

Also about 15 minutes away in Ghent, NY, is the Fields Sculpture Park at the OMI International Arts Center with internationally recognized contemporary sculpture thoughtfully curated over 100 acres of farmland.

About 20-25 minutes away are Red Hook and Tivoli, which both have local shops and restaurants, and are close to Bard College, where the Fisher Performing Arts Center is located. 25 minutes away is Rhinebeck (5 minutes past Red Hook on Route 9), which has excellent restaurants, shops, a farmer's market on Saturdays, as well as local artists, and an art house movie theatre.

Directly across the river are Catskill, and the Catskill mountains with incredible hiking trails, and Woodstock.

If you like classical music, Tanglewood, the summer venue for the Boston Symphony Orchestra is about 40 miles away. It is a favorite for the cheap lawn tickets to outdoor concerts on summer nights. Well worth the drive.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I have to second all of that!

It is a truly wonderful house and the views are beyond stunning.

I particularly like the way the mirrorball catches the early afternoon sun.

Absolutely delightful house and setting. The house is spacious, very clean and well-equipped.

  • 5 of 5

We’ve rented many places for vacation stays, and this place was without question our best experience yet. The spacious, very clean and well-equipped house comfortably accommodated three generations of family, and also worked well when our group numbered four or two. Large and comfortably furnished two-floor open living room. Great views and sunsets from ample deck overlooking the Catskills. Separate small cabin and sitting area on ridge in the woods was great fun for grandkids. Secluded and quiet, yet easily accessible to grocery-shopping, excellent swimming at Lake Taghkanic State Park, and the myriad attractions of mid-Hudson Valley. The HomeAway listing photos give an accurate sense of what the house is like, and we concur with other renters’ enthusiastic reviews. The owner was exceptionally responsive and assured that we had a splendid time.

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

My daughter was getting married not far from this location and we couldn’t have been happier with our stay. Amelia is amazing. She was in contact with us and so helpful. She went out of her way to find a location for a brunch the next day which was wonderful. I recommend this house for anyone who’s looking for something homey and comfortable.

Stunning home in stunning location!

We enjoyed our trip very much. The house is spacious, airy, and has beautiful views of uninterrupted forest with mountains off in the distance. It is wonderfully quiet and peaceful outside. A refreshing and rejuvenating respite from the hurly burly of city life.

Great Weekend away from it all to celebrate my 50th Birthday

  • 5 of 5

Hi Amelia,

Thank you so very much for the use of your magnificent home, our weekend was everything that I had hoped for, and we did not want to leave. The pictures of your home on the listing were incredible, but once you are actually here there are no words or pictures that could possibly do it justice, it is perfect. The great room and the wrap around deck is where we spent the majority of our time, absolutely amazing and peaceful! The view was truly breathtaking and it was my favorite part of the house. The home is so lovely, your taste in decor is incredible, the furniture is all so comfortable, and the home is thoughtfully stocked with everything you could possibly need to make sure that you wanted for nothing during your stay. We visited a few of the farm stands, and had a wonderful afternoon at beautiful Lake Taghkanic, but honestly did not need to leave the property because it was just so amazing and tranquil. I am so grateful to you for allowing me to have the perfect weekend getaway with my family to celebrate my birthday here, it was everything that I had hoped for. We would highly recommend your home and are already looking in to booking our second stay here. Thank you for everything!

Best wishes,

Anita
