About Don Flake

William Jordan Flake and James Clark Owens, my great grandfathers purchased the ranch that became the town of Show Low, Arizona. William J. Flake was the pioneer founder of Snowflake.

We have 12 children and an ever growing number of grand children who love to come to the cabin as often as they can.

We know you will love the property as much as we do.

Don Flake purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Don Flake chose Pinetop-Lakeside

The property is right next to beautiful open forests yet it is within two miles of the center of Lakeside and three miles of the center of Pinetop.

Perfect for big groups. Mothers with sleeping babies can be in one end of the cabin while big, happy, boisterous groups can be in the other end.

Mountain lakes, great hiking trails, sledding, skiing, fishing, etc. are all within minutes but with almost 4 acres you don't need to leave the property to have a fabulous time.

What makes this cabin unique

For larger groups or special events we offer discounts for renting both our Woodland Lake Cabin and our home on Bald Eagle Point on Rainbow Lake two miles away. Ask us for details.

With stables, a coral and an arena on the property, you are welcome to bring your own horses.

If you prefer white mountain stables is near by and they provide great horseback riding adventures.

DISGUSTING - BE AWARE!

  • 1 of 5

We DO NOT recommend this home. The home is amazing and has lots of potential but it shows obvious signs of neglect. Be aware, that the GUESTS ARE REQUIRED TO CLEAN and the cleaning fee only covers laundry. They expect guests to sweep, mop & vacuum the floors, & scrub sinks & toilets in the bathrooms and leave the home ready for the next guest. One of the rooms had black curly hairs on the sink & toilet, and another room had dirty sheets on the bed. We stayed in the master bedroom. The bathroom smelled so bad it was almost unusable. Then on the third night we found a decaying mouse behind the toilet. It was disgusting and unacceptable. We had 15 adults with us, and there were only 8 forks, 4 coffee cups, and zero wine glasses. Barry (the manager) did bring over some forks & cups for us, but you may want to bring everything you want to use. There is no patio furniture to relax on; we had to move the kitchen chairs outside to sit on them. The ice maker doesn't work. There are no hangers (none), no blow dryers, the towels are like rags, we had to use bungees to hold the shades up, lightbulbs were missing (and of course you don't find that out until it's dark and you can't see), and there is NO CABLE, we couldn't even watch the news. One of the couches was so stained nobody wanted to sit on it. One of the guests got locked in a bedroom because the door knob didn't work and was falling off. Luckily someone was there to help. The windows look like they have never been cleaned, they are gross, with missing screens & broken knobs. How hard could it be to give this place a little TLC for guests?

Needs some serious updating and a complete disinfecting/cleaning

  • 3 of 5

If I could give two ratings I would. I'd give 5 stars for the layout of the home. However, when it comes to the cleanliness and the repairs that need to be made inside and out I would say 2 stars. There needs to be disinfecting done every time this home is rented and it certainly wasn't done in a really long time. I did contact Don after our stay and he did refund our cleaning deposit. Will we go back? I will check to see if the furniture has been replaced (a must- and not just because it's old but because it's falling apart and looks like it came from a yard sale. Definitely, not to the caliber that this home requires) and will check the reviews to see if improvements have been made.

THIS IS YOUR PLACE TO GO, IT HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED:

  • 5 of 5

This is my third visit to this cabin in the last 3 years. I have decided we have to go back next year again. It gets better every year. The cabin is located in a very private area, that gets rid of all the noises from downtown. This cabin can sleep just about any group of people. We have just enough people to enjoy the whole place very comfortably. The rooms are very private with your own bathrooms. The kitchen is one of the highlights of the place. You can cook a full course meal and then sit a very large group of people at the two kitchen tables. There is a fire[place room for those who just want to get away, read a book, talk privately or just hang out and relax. When the evening comes there is a beautiful place to sit and have a campfire. There is also a very large porch out front, if you wish to shoot some hoops, or just sit there and watch the wildlife in the woods. If you wish to venture away from the cabin you can go to the local Casino, take a trip to Sunrise. During the summer months Sunrise has lift gate tours to the top of the mountain or if you are someone who like zip lines they have one of the largest zip lines in all of AZ. If you need groceries, there are Safeway's - Wal Marts - Home Depots all within driving from the cabin. It really is a beautiful place. The only negative is we have to leave and go back home. Check this place out you will not be sorry. There is a Caretaker, his name is Barry, he will go out of his way to make your visit well worthwhile. Good luck and yes ENJOY THE PLACE.

Nice Time with Family

  • 5 of 5

Ever year our Family rents out a Cabin and Love to relax in the woods. This year we wanted to try a new cabin and we came across this cabin. This first thing that caught our eye is how big the cabin is. The Cabin has 8 spacious bedrooms and 7 baths. The property Manager Barry was awesome!! Barry was always available and was willing to help us with anything thing we needed. Thank you Barry. This cabin is perfect for large groups for family and friends. Our only suggestion would to get screens on all the windows and the 2 doors need screen doors. The weather was beautiful and we would love to open the windows and door to feel the breeze. We look forward to visiting the cabin again next year!!!!

The property was large

  • 4 of 5

Loved it! The property had a basketball hoop for father and son bonding. The fire pit was great for smores and story telling. Everyone had their own room to still have some alone time. My parents had a great time having all of us in one house with our own families. Thank you for opening up your house to us.

Perfect for a large family

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful four days in the Ponderosa Pines. We had plenty of room since the bedrooms are large and plentiful, especially loved the master suite. Enjoyed hiking while we were there or just plan relaxing. Thank you Barry and Pam who always made sure everything was okay. The only suggestion we have is a good dusting would really help. Loved the cabin and definitely would return!!!
