About Don Flake

William Jordan Flake and James Clark Owens, my great grandfathers purchased the ranch that became the town of Show Low, Arizona. William J. Flake was the pioneer founder of Snowflake.

We have 12 children and an ever growing number of grand children who love to come to the cabin as often as they can.

We know you will love the property as much as we do.

Don Flake purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Don Flake chose Pinetop-Lakeside

The property is right next to beautiful open forests yet it is within two miles of the center of Lakeside and three miles of the center of Pinetop.

Perfect for big groups. Mothers with sleeping babies can be in one end of the cabin while big, happy, boisterous groups can be in the other end.

Mountain lakes, great hiking trails, sledding, skiing, fishing, etc. are all within minutes but with almost 4 acres you don't need to leave the property to have a fabulous time.

What makes this cabin unique

For larger groups or special events we offer discounts for renting both our Woodland Lake Cabin and our home on Bald Eagle Point on Rainbow Lake two miles away. Ask us for details.

With stables, a coral and an arena on the property, you are welcome to bring your own horses.

If you prefer white mountain stables is near by and they provide great horseback riding adventures.

Perfect Place for Family Reunion

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was a perfect setting for our family reunion with different areas inside and outside to sit and share. The front deck and back porch were perfect places for the kids to play as were the grounds around the cabin. The spacious cabin provided room for our eight different family units that attended with room on the floor for the young children in their parents' rooms. Grocery shopping is close by, lake and playground/picnic areas and places to hike are also near by. Several family members commented that it would be a good place to have another reunion some day. Thanks. Karen for the family

Really nice cabin.

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was a great size for our family reunion. We never felt crowded. Having private bedrooms and baths gives everyone personal space. It’s in a perfect wooded setting. The outside deck was spacious. There are a few maintenance problems. Many of the window cranks are broken or missing. The windows have to be pushed from the outside by one person while a second person latches the locks. The lock to the bedroom at the end of the hall by the secondary laundry is broken. There were 6 dead flies and a moth on the tub deck in the master bathroom and we arrived a day after the last guests so clearly not cleaned properly which makes one wonder if the tub was cleaned. One of the mattresses was so hard two adults slept on couches. When removing the sheets, a couple of the mattresses were filthy and need replacing. The kitchen faucet has to be jiggled just right to stop a small stream running. The skylights in the living room leaked during a rainstorm, we had to line the couch with pots and bowls to catch the water. Barry caulked them the next day and they did not leak the second night of rain.

The gold tabby cat that was left on the property to catch mice has a terrible abscess on his back and needs veterinary care. He is too scared to come to people so we could not catch him to help.

I rated 4 stars only because of the maintenance issues. The cabin has the potential to be 5+ stars. The nightly rental price is fair given how many people it sleeps but it is also enough to be maintained better.

This is a great house for a large party. Six of the bedrooms have their own bathrooms.

  • 3 of 5

The location is perfect. Fishing, hiking, grocery store are all very close. The house worked great for our family reunion. It is a well used house, in need of some maintenance but a great property. With a little love this could easily be a 5 star getaway house.

Perfect For Our Family

  • 4 of 5

We had four households represented during our vacation in Lakeside/Pinetop. The property size was perfect for our family; we even had two bedrooms that were not needed as some family members were unable to come. We enjoyed the quiet, especially in the evenings with our bonfire. There were a couple of things that needed repair in the kitchen, but did not affect our stay. The property manager, Barry, was very nice and available to take care of any needs that we had. I would recommend a couple of things to the owners... Due to the ability to sleep at least 16 people, there really needs to be more seating in the eating areas; you could easily supply the property with four to six folding chairs that can be brought out at meal times. Also, it would be great to have patio furniture (including a table) on the back porch; we spent most of our time there as it was shaded all afternoon (fortunately, we had brought our own camp chairs). The only other thing would be to upgrade the bedding as most of the sheets and bedspreads were pretty thin and dated. The location is close to hiking trails and fishing lakes; we also spent one day at the Fun Park riding go carts and playing mini golf. It was the perfect property for our group due to the number of bedrooms with private bathrooms! Overall we had a great experience and would stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. We appreciate your comments. Since your stay we added 2 long benches for the tables, 5 folding chairs and 8 patio chairs. We have also changed out some of the bedding and will continue to do so. We hope to see you again.

Great cabin for large groups!!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The cabin was well equipped for large groups and was in a beautiful area. It was perfect for our group. We had 3 children under two years of age and we were able to put them at one end of the cabin so they weren't disturbed by any noise going on in other areas. It was clean and well maintained. Barry, who lives on the property, was outstanding!! He answered all our questions when we arrived and was always available if we needed something during our stay. Barry was also very helpful with information about the surrounding area and places to visit. We will definitely return for our next family get together!!!
