Crane Hill House Rental Photos and Description

Super House, 5 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 25)

Welcome to 'Magnolia Manor' in Crane Hill, AL in Cullman, Al near Bremen. We named it this because the area has abundant 'cowcumber' magnolias growing everywhere. The physical address is 128 County Road 327. On Google Maps just across the lake (West Side) from the Bridge at Trident Marina next to the peninsula. Boat Dock in place! Dock Fishing and site-seeing excellent. 15-20 minutes from Interstate 65, the major highway artery from Mobile, AL to Chicago, IL. See smith-lakehomes dot com

We are on the Western side of Cullman County, the East Side of Lewis Smith Lake across the water from Trident Marina, formerly called Ryans Creek Marina, near Bremen, AL. To go by land, it is just 2-4 minutes away. We are 8/10 of one mile from the Trident Marina, formerly Ryan Creek Marina. Our spacious, non-smoking home, will help you get away from city life and enjoy the easy-going pace of the Northern Alabama countryside in the foothills of the Appalachian chain. Whether you choose to stay in Spring, Summer, Winter or Fall, you will feel at home while only an hour away from Birmingham and Huntsville.

Perfect for family, family reunions, church meeting, conferences, corporate meetings, professional continuing education courses, and/or company retreats. To find us on Google Maps, just find Ryan Creek Marina (now Trident Marina) on County Road 222. Magnolia Manor is 2/10 of one mile West of the Marina by land or by boat, just across the lake next to the peninsula that juts out on the map. Coming from I-65, we are 7.1 miles West of Interstate 65 down State Highway 69. After driving 7.1 miles on Hwy 69 South towards Jasper, one turns right or West onto County Road 222 at Hwy 69 mile marker 228. Head West on Cty Road 222 up the hill 1.5 miles where you will find a 4-Way Stop sign and a grocery/gas store called 'JD 4-Way.' Keep straight on 222 another 5.2 miles and you will come to Ryan Creek Marina. Go 8/10 mile further on 222 and turn right onto Cty Road 327 into Sunrise Pointe Estates Subdivision (there is a sign there). We are 1/10 mile on the right, the first drive on the right (Lot 2) with a concrete drive leading down into the front of Magnolia Manor. You have arrived!

Magnolia Manor is a hide-away overlooking Smith Lake placed upon a rolling hillside about 270 feet from waters edge where we have 140 feet of water frontage and plenty of parking at and around the house.

The upper deck/balcony is perfect for sunbathing, just hanging out, BBQ's, cooking relaxing, boating, fishing or skiing. Put in your boat just across the Lake at Trident Marina (Ryan Creek Marina), tie down your motor boat or pontoon at our boat/swim dock after a day of swimming, water-skiing or fishing for large mouth bass, spotted bass, striped bass, bream, and crappie, and enjoy the beautiful sunset over the lake. Tie up at our boat dock. We are in a cove and there are no rough waves coming in.

Broadband Internet -WiFi from Wild Blue Satellite internet.

A newly opened 1455 Acre plus OHV (Off Highway Vehicle Park) is only 15 minutes away. The County of Cullman, AL built and maintains this Park called 'Stoney Lonesome.' Very popular with folks driving in from AL, TN, and MS. According to the Birmingham News article on June 12, 2008, ' The Cullman County Commission bought the land - seven miles southwest of the Interstate 65 exit at Dodge City - in 2012 for just more than $1.8 million. Much of the money came from an Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs grant designated for an OHV park. 'By the fall, when we plan to be in operation, we'll have some of the basic trails open for the ATVs, the motorcycles, the mountain biking,' Sellers said.....rock crawling, so 4x4 vehicles with oversized tires can crawl over large boulders or up steep inclines, Sellers said. The county plans to get rock crawlers to help design and build that section from quarried boulders.....When we bring it out, we want it to be of a standard that there is not anything to compare to it...An expert in trail construction will be brought in to teach county workers how to build the trails, so in the future they can maintain them or make changes, Sellers said.

Magnolia Manor bedding is as follows: 1 King Bed (sleeps 2); 2 Queen Beds (sleeps 2 per bed);2 Twin Bed sleeps 2; 2 Futon Sofa/Beds (sleeps 2 per futon); 5 Bunk Beds (sleeps 10 total in Bunks); 1 New Leather Sofa folds out and sleeps 2. Total of 24 can sleep in beds! Extra couch available as well, would make 25!

Lewis Smith Lake is a Southern Company reservoir in North Alabama. The three-fingered lake was created by Alabama Power to produce hydroelectric eco-friendly power and improve river traffic conditions on the Black Warrior River, as well as to provide recreation opportunities.

Besides fishing the lake offers excellent opportunities for other water sports, including swimming, boating, jet-skis, and water skiing, as well as non-water related activities like camping, picnicking and just plain relaxing. This Lake Home is about 1 hour North of Birmingham and about 2 hours South of Nashville, 2 and 1/2 hours from Atlanta, just 15 minutes off Interstate 65. Lewis Smith Lake is located between Birmingham and Huntsville, and is nestled among the pastures and rolling hills of northern Alabama. Lewis Smith Lake serves as a perfect get away for individuals in both Birmingham, Atlanta and Nashville.

'We visited Magnolia Manor in June and had a wonderful time. I have four

kids and 7 grandchildren. The house is wonderful for a big family.

Everyone had their own rooms and the kids loved the bunks. The kitchen

is adequately furnished for cooking large meals. We loved the outside

decks. There is lots of parking for several vehicles. We enjoyed our

time at Magnolia Manor and would recommend it for a family vacation.'

......Dianne Holloman, Quitman, MS

'Marvelous time with all the kids and grandkids. We hope to come back next year!'

The Fifes in Hoover, AL

"Thanks so much so allowing our family to spend time in your beautiful home. We spent a lot of time in the house since it was raining a lot during some of our stay here. You have a lovely home. We will look into visiting again. We love how much room there is! Thanks again." The Howards

"This weekend we celebrated our mothers 50th birthday with family and friends. Everyone 'ooohed and aaahed' over how beautiful the house was. Everything we needed was here! (The WiFi was great for the laptops!) We watched the Olympics on the big TV in the living room. It also snowed outside! The weekend was delightful! Thank you for letting us stay here! Hopefully we will get to come back again!" Davis Family

Our guests come from as far away as Santa Barbara, California and as near as right here in Alabama.

About Rickey Harris or Ulvia Harris --USA and Salinas Ecuador

Growing up at Crane Hill, I watched as the Lake was built in the early 1960's. Some of my family owned land that is now 'lake front property.' I worked on the family farm where we raised cows, and lots of chickens 'broilers.' I thought everyone got up at 4 AM to work before they went to elementary school!! I 'retired' at age 15 or so when we moved to the 'big city' of Cullman, Alabama!!

My wife and I have 5 grown children and we enjoy Smith Lake boating, skiing and just cruising around in the boat on the lake. The Smith Lake and Crane Hill area is good for relaxing in the laid back foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain and has over 500 miles of shoreline. Great for bass fishing although personally I enjoy just riding around in the boat and seeing the scenery. We are local business owners (insurance agency) who live in nearby Jasper, AL which is 30 minutes away on Hwy 69.

Lewis Smith Lake is the best fresh water lake in North Alabama. Full of Stripe and Large Mouth Bass and other great tasting fish! Great for family get togethers as everyone can drive in from nearby Interstate I-65. Several Bass Masters Classic Fishing Tournaments have relished being on Smith Lake in the past 7 years.

What makes this house unique

Relaxation and Tranquil Time.

Boating. Nature Watching. Fishing from shore in the Cove. Big Bass there! Can be seen in the early mornings. After a good rain, listen to the rushing stream run into the lake while sitting out on the top or bottom deck.

Water Skiing with the family. There is a slalom course just down the lake from us.

Watching the deer walking across the property. Convenient to I-65, just 15 - 20 minutes away.

Beautiful Comfortable house, with great view of the lake

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time. This is our second time renting this house for our Writers Retreat. The house is more than big enough for the ten of us. There is plenty of space for writing and workshops. The kitchen is fully loaded and a joy to cook in. We would definitely do it again!

Perfect for large Family

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for letting us stay at your beautiful home. For years, my grandfather has wanted our family to get away together and spend a week in a cabin. We all enjoyed our time together eating, fishing, hiking and eating some more. The layout of the home is perfect for a large family and we'd love to return some day.

Thanks again

Underwhelming - more like a camp

  • 3 of 5

I like to provide positive feedback, but all I can come up with is that this house is clean and roomy, situated on a lot with pretty trees. We rely on honest opinions with VRBO reviews as we're considering properties, and were disappointed upon our arrival to find this place not nearly as nice as the photos (and previous reviewers) suggest. It's as if we rented a completely different house! We arrived late on Friday night, ahead of 3 friends, and the back door was wide open, which may explain the active hornet's nest attached to an interior window of the living room. House smelled very musty - perhaps that's why the back door was left open? The main floor master bedroom (referred to as Master Bedroom # 2 in photos on this site) bears no resemblance to the photo - artwork is minimal, bedding is not nearly as nice as the photo would suggest and inexplicably there's a kitchen hutch in the master. A master bedroom closet contains bedding atop a thin foam pad (I presume to be used as another bedroom?) Our 2nd floor bedroom was large but the bedding was too small for the King-size bed, and not in great shape. This bathroom had no shower, only a tub, so we had to go to basement to shower. There is another bedroom on this level, but it opens directly into the main bedroom, so that anyone staying there would have to walk through the main bedroom to use the bathroom or to access the stairs. The remaining bedroom on the main floor (next to kitchen) has access to a very small half-bath, which does not contain a shower. Only 1 closet in the house has a pole on which to hang clothes - we had to use door knobs instead.

The kitchen and first floor living areas are spacious; there are many, many beds but only 2 showers (one in the main floor master bedroom, one in the basement next to the washer and dryer). I suppose a family with teenagers would appreciate the rec room with pool table and foosball table; we did enjoy having coffee on the large deck in the mornings. But overall this was a disappointment - furnishings are pretty scruffy (leather sofa in living room is torn along the back, for example). Perhaps the owners are unaware of the condition of the furniture, bedding, etc. There are nicer properties available within this price range. We'll book elsewhere next time.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. These deficiencies HAVE BEEN corrected! Wasp nest (hornet nest) is gone! Wasps tend to build anywhere and we were not aware of that one. Sorry! The mop was left inside and that was where the "musty smell" came from. New sofa and bedding now in place. That was not a mattress topper was in the closet. It was for the grandchildren to play on! Our grandchildren like to play and hide in there! Please see some of the prior reviews such as this one here..... "We had a wonderful weekend at this beautiful lake home. Home is well equipped and very well maintained. We had a large group ranging in ages from 3 to 90. Description of home is accurate and even better than described. Also, Mr. Harris was very pleasant and easy to work with. Would recommend this home to anyone! Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Girls Getaway, Families with Teenagers" _______ Thanks again for your stay! RIckey and Ulvia Harris
