About Michelle Mancuso

My home is in Baton Rouge, Louisiana but quickly fell in love with the Mentone/Lookout Mountain region. I never tire of the beauty or the people and I hope you fall in love too.

Michelle Mancuso purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Michelle Mancuso chose Alabama Mountains

We have traveled to Lookout Mountain for many years and decided we wanted a vacation home in this unspoiled area. It is so convenient to many other destinations and we often have intentions of using Hawk's Nest Hideaway as the headquarter for further adventures, but we end up falling in love with what the area has to offer in views and outings so we stay and never venture any further than a days drive away. Any time of year, any season we have never been disappointed.

What makes this cabin unique

This area is unique in that there is a little known fact that Little River Canyon is the deepest river canyon besides the Grand Canyon the USA and the river flows entirely on the top of the mountain. This area is so pristine, clean, uncluttered and unique. You will truly fall in love and want to return many many times. I welcome you and your family to my home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Beautiful home. We married in Mentone and we come back every year for our anniversary. 6th year now. We have stayed in several different places but think we have found the "ONE" from now on. Great place to reconnect and leave behind all the worries of everyday life. We hate to leave.

Nice place, owner out of town and unfriendly

  • 3 of 5

We were unable to check in our first day because of no phone signal at the cabin, contacted the owner by text and she didn't respond, called and left a message and when she did call back, she was rude to me. It was after dark before I got the key code and I had my children with me so we didn't go back because we didn't feel confident on the roads out there at night. I was very upset with how we were treated, and we missed out on an entire night of our rental and were told that it was our fault and our responsibility and that we should not have delayed contacting her until after we drove away, after it had been explained that we had no way to contact her because our cell phones didn't work. It rained all weekend, so we spent the whole time indoors. There were 2 garbage bags and three dishwasher tabs in the house for a three day stay, no laundry detergent, and overall we were not very happy with our stay. The house is nice, and we made the best of it for the kids. If you don't mind roughing it a bit, and you don't have any problems where you have to contact the owner, it is a decent property with nice features. I won't rent it again because I felt that this owner doesn't care that much about customer service or satisfaction, but she did allow us to check out a few hours late our last day to make up for the night we didn't stay so that was better than nothing, I suppose. Also, there was a stray dog hanging around and my kids loved him so they cried when we left because they were told by a neighbor that his family had abandoned him. We tried to contact the dog's family, and my son was eventually successful, but they cried about leaving the dog there all alone because he didn't have anyone to care for him.

Owner's Response: This guest arrived at the cabin apparently using the directions that I emailed her days before arrival. The email also contains the code assigned to each guest for entry. The email also states to please save to your phone or print as the cell service on the mountain is spotty. This guest arrived, then left and drove to visit her mother over an hour away before calling to ask me to extend another night. I asked why she waited hours to call instead of driving under a mile to call me regarding entry. Something just didn't seem right about this entire situation. I offered another night with check in at 4 next day or arrive early and check out at 3 instead of normal 11 check out. I never had a response on any of my offers. I never had any contact with this guest except her request for free night. I can't control the weather either. The dog was reported to me from a guest with children the weekend prior and they played with it for days so he decided to hang out but he does have tags with a phone number and is not a stray, just likes kids. Overall this guest just wants to complain, 3 dish washer tabs for 3 days stay...oh no! I knew I would have an awful review from this guest. Even in all her misery she admitted a decent property with nice features. Not sure who the neighbors would be as there are no neighbors so another reason to wonder? Please take this person's review as having no merit. Just looking for free time. Thanks, I'm nice this guest just made me snorky.

Serenity

Hawk's Nest Hideaway is in a quiet and serene location, but still convenient to Mentone, and DeSoto Falls. The house is very clean and well appointed. Everything necessary was provided for a relaxing stay - very easy to unplug, unwind and relax!
