Please look at my last photo.
Our family of 6 owns & operates the vacation rental. We live 1 mile down the road. We met while serving in the US Navy and moved to Viroqua because of a business opportunity as well as the beauty of the area and it was within a 1 day drive to both sets of our parents.
Nancy Henckel purchased this farmhouse in 2009
We purchased the property so that we would have more pastureland for our flock of sheep and the house and location seemed ideal for a vacation home rental. Nancy grew up on a family owned & operated resort in NE WI and this is a return to her roots.
It is set in a beautiful peaceful valley. Relax on the porch and watch the sheep graze in the pasture. Tour the area and discover the beautiful coulee region
This was our second visit. Took our 9 year old granddaughter on this visit. She loved feeding the farm animals, hiking the grounds, playing in the playlot, soaking in the hotub, and making brownies with her grandmother in the beautiful kitchen. We also went tubing down the Kickapoo River, and took a 2 hour Mississippi River. We were not sure how our grandaughter would react to this 4 night vacation stay, but she loved it and wants to return.
we had a wonderful time, the four of us just loved your place. we would like to stay the same time again next year. that Thursday and Friday and leave on Saturday. we went fishing and the women went to Viroqua and did a little shopping. was the most relaxing place we have ever stayed at. and we plan to make it yearly mini vacation. Thank you for letting us enjoy your property. We all give it a five star. thanks Nancy. Dan.
Had very high expectations for this vacation and was NOT disappointed. My wife and I took our four kids (ages 1 - 6) to get a taste of farm life, and we could not have been more pleased with how much they enjoyed this trip. From sun up to sundown every day, they played with the animals, ran around in the yard, toasted marshmallows at the fire pit, hiked the trails, fished, biked, played in the clubhouse, and just generally spent every waking moment getting dirty and exhausted outside. We grown-ups had just as much fun as we put away all wi-fi devices and soaked in the hot tub, took walks around the property, relaxed in hammocks and porch swings, and snapped a million photos of the kids interacting with nature.
We've only been gone a week and already the kids are begging to return. They say they liked it better than Disney World… which at a fraction of the cost, is just fine with us!
Nancy is a fantastic host. The fresh cookies, the beautiful home, and the peace and quiet make for the most cozy, relaxing getaway I've experienced in years. Even the drive on winding roads through the Viroqua hills to town was a pleasure.
If you want to tear your kids away from iPads and the television – or if you want to remember what it was like to be a kid, yourself, and play outside all day long – this is the place. The scenery is breathtaking in all 360 degrees, the donkeys are friendly, and the house feels like a secluded getaway. You won't want to leave.
This house and the location are beautiful! We waded in the river, hiked around the grounds and barbecued on the deck. At night, the fire pit was roaring and the hot tub was soothing. Our group has been visiting this area every year for over 30 years. This was our first year at Purdee Valley and we will be back.
I'd prefer to be brief, but that's difficult. Everything was too awesome! The inside of the home is updated and fresh... and BIG. Two huge bathrooms and two out of three bedrooms - also huge. The open concept kitchen gives plenty of room to cook and no one is stepping around each other. The complimentary eggs, jam and cookies made it even more inviting. (Thanks Nancy!) We loved the fire pit, as we are night time people. In fact, we never tried the television! The animals in the barn and stable gave this vacation a whole new experience. Take advantage of the well marked hiking trails right on the property. It is beautiful. And if you crave privacy, this is the place. I'm hoping to book this one again next year. There's nothing I would change!
Our 3rd stay and it is just as good as the 1st two, eggs, jam and cookies are the treat, super clean, kept up like new condition, quilts are super warm. We enjoy ourselves with the Ski Championship and the country driving, away from the big city.
A big Thank You for having this place available for us.
