Our loft is now available for vocational rental. It's situated in the heart of downtown Pau, on the most popular pedestrian street of Maréchal Foch, which is packed with stores, restaurants and cafés. A Museum, movie theatre, a playground, a casino and the famous mansion of King Henry IV are all within walking distances. The loft sleeps up to 8 persons, fully furnished, with a modern kitchen, French antique furniture from Louis Philippe era, a HD TV, internet, computer, etc - please feel free to contact me if you would like to spend your next vacation in France.
We guarantee you a comfortable, relaxing, cost-sensible vacation, with unforgettable and rich experiences in French culture and French living. You may do grocery shopping at Les Halles, a 10-minute walk from the loft, where locally produced organic vegetables and fruits are available at very affordable prices in addition to the best cheeses made of milk from free-range cows and sheep raised in the Pyrénées. Local mouth-watering French pastries and desserts can be bought in boulangeries at every corner of the street around the loft.
There are certainly lots of shopping opportunities within walking distance. In addition to the large European chain stores such as ZARA, IKKS, Pimki, Galeries Lafayette, etc., visitors often take pleasure in shopping at the local public market at Verdun Square, a 15 minute walk from the loft, for the latest French fashion at incredibly affordable prices. One may walk to visit the old churches and Châteaux, i.e. the Henri IV Château, St. John Church.
If you decide to rent a car during your stay, you'll find lots of attractive places within a 2-hour drive: toward the south, you'll cross the French-Spanish border and arrive in Spain to experience another culture altogether; toward the east, you'll find the world-famous ski resorts as well as lots of nice hiking routes in the heart of the Pyrénées; toward the west, you'll reach the beaches in Biarritz and St-Jean-de-Luz where Hollywoodiens choose to vacation, and toward the northwest, you'll arrive in the wine city of Bordeaux, where you'll see some breath-taking mansions, miles of vineyards, and be invited for wine-tasting.
Our 5th floor apartment in Pau was exceptionally well located – in the middle of town with fabulous views of the Pyrenees. As time passed we realised how lucky we were to have found the apartment which was well equipped, warm, and modern. A high-speed internet connection meant that my husband was able to do a couple of hours work each morning and that was critical to his ability to enjoy the holiday experience. He is also an excellent cook so the gallery kitchen was fully used. Whilst I rested and read, my husband entertained me by his piano playing. Having a piano in the apartment was a very pleasant surprise.
Everything one needs for a rich French experience is available in Pau and all were within walking distance. It was only a step this way to good cafes, a supermarket, a couple of boulangeries, and Galleries LaFayette and a step the other way to caves, fresh food markets, chocolate and cheese shops. And it helped that we were there during the ‘Soldes’.
We hired a car and with Pau as our base, did side trips to many of the communes of the Hautes-Pyrénées.
Daisy, the owner, helped us get settled in and ensured that all was in readiness for our stay. I have already made a tentative booking to have another stay in our apartment in Pau. When you have tasted it all, why would one look for anywhere else?
The communication with the owner was super, and aside from the bathroom facilities and strange bedroom layout, I'd say that the apartment and especially its living room and kitchen areas is excellent. The main bathroom is an en-suite bathroom with no curtain on the window and no door separating it from its adjacent bedroom...mmm. This also means that other occupants must enter this bedroom to use this bathroom. There is a seperate WC and shower room (2 seperate rooms) outside the main apartment door in the stairwell, and although this is the only apartment on this floor, it does feel a little strange to leave the apartment, and enter a 6-figure door-code to use these unheated rooms. While the 'en-suite' bedroom was nice, the others are only average: you must walk though one to reach the other, and one only has a single bed while the other contained a mattress on the floor. The floor-mattress room was overly cluttered with bits and pieces, and should be cleared up. Please also note that I was only told of the additional cleaning fee and deposit payable on arrival after I had paid for the apartment rental ... this information should have been disclosed with the rental fee, as the cleaning fee in particular is excessive given the apartment's size
I have stayed at this apartment for 2 months and I can say I enjoyed the large living room and spacious
modern kitchen. I especially enjoyed the location (in the centre of Pau). Communication with landlord was always pleasant and helpful; she was always there at hand to assist whenever needed. I can highly recommend this property.
We stayed in the apartment for several nights during the 2011 Tour de France. It was a wonderful location. We found the small grocery store across the street had everything we could possibly want. The apartment was very clean and comfortable.
If we were ever to be in Pau again, we would definitely stay here.
We were on a relocation visit to Pau. The loft was a perfect place to stay for all our city needs. We loved the cheerful decoration and the large living area of the flat. The owner provided a very informative and timely reply and the key keeper provided a warm and informative welcome. The apartment was fully equipped and felt like a real home for us. I think that the hidden secret was a gorgeous little view of the fabulous Pyrenees mountain chain. We hope to come back again…
