About Chuck and Diane Elliott

Our romance began in 1961 when Diane came to Carmel to be a 4th grade teacher at Carmel River School. She met Chuck who had just left the Navy's Blue Angels and was enrolled in the Naval Postgraduate School. In 1964 we were married and began a life together. Through the years, as a Navy family, we lived many places, but always returned to Carmel to visit our old friends and to bask in the beauty of the area. Of course, we always wished we had bought a place when we first lived here, and never really thought we would ever live in Carmel

Chuck and Diane Elliott purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Chuck and Diane Elliott chose Central Coast California

In 2004 we fell in love with Sundance, a rustic and secluded home on a half acre overlooking Hatton Canyon. We immediately bought it, sold our home in Del Mar, and became Carmelites. We love it here and have never looked back. Our family and friends enjoyed staying in the guest cottage, and after our son built a magnificent deck around it we christened it 'Moonglow' and decided to offer it as a vacation rental. As you can see from the guestbook, it has been very popular.

What makes this cottage unique

Moonglow is close to everything in Carmel, the Monterey Peninsula, Carmel Valley and Big Sur, yet secluded and quiet.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you Chuck & Diane - what a sweet & serene place this is. We loved the artistic details of the architecture and the garden. The trees are very peaceful and beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay.

Perfect getaway for a couple!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose Moonglow for our honeymoon, because we wanted to stay somewhere private, picturesque, conveniently located, and affordable. Moonglow was absolutely the perfect choice for us! It's secluded enough to feel really woodsy and lovely, but still walking distance to town and the beach. We could store snacks and even prepare simple meals in the kitchenette, which was a great money saver. The bed and couch are comfortable, the Internet is speedy, the bathroom is well equipped -- and of course, the hot tub is a HUGE perk. Best of all, in our opinion: the house comes with free passes to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which saved us $100 and was an incredible experience. Chuck and Diane were gracious hosts and we really enjoyed meeting them. I hope we can return to Moonglow in the future and get to know them even better! Thank you, Chuck and Diane!

Enchanting cottage

  • 5 of 5

Chuck and Diane are great hosts and thought of everything from the welcoming note to the "Moonglow" bathrobes....

The place is absolutely enchanting and I would have stayed a month if I could have. It is spacious and the terrasse is spacious as well, perched in the middle of the forest.

We had a wonderful and magic stay at Moonglow.....

Outstanding in all respects

  • 5 of 5

Like other guests, we found Moonglow to be outstanding in all respects. The property is exactly as described online, only better. The lovely setting, attention to detail, closeness to town and the Sur, and warm hospitality of Diane and Chuck made for a terrific stay. Five stars are simply not enough. We would welcome the opportunity to return many times over.

Very unique, charming guest cottage.

  • 4 of 5

A beautiful space which included a bedroom, sitting room, bathroom and a kitchenette which uncomplicated meals can be prepared. Access to a gas grill made cooking even easier. The owners provide perks such as access to sports equipment and Aquarium passes which were used and enjoyed, along with a hot tub, which was a great way to relax at the end of the day. Nestled among the trees, you almost feel make you are in a tree house. The cottage is only a short drive to many of the area attractions. It is obvious the owners enjoy sharing this part of their home and treat you as a guest with all the nice touches.

Beatiful location

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was very nice quiet location, about 10- 15 minute drive to the Carmel beach, and convenient to Monterey. The small kitchen is adequate for drinks, snacks and sandwich fixings. Unfortunately, the hot tub is no longer working. As that was one of the primary reasons for selecting this location, we were rather disappointed. Even so, it is a nice, affordable location, easily accessibly (just beware of local traffic).

Owner's Response: Unfortunately, the hot tub stopped working while these folks were here. It has now been repaired and is working perfectly. Chuck and Diane Elliott
