This park is located in the Minho region of northwest Portugal, about 100 km from the port, in Viana do Castelo districts, Vila Real and Braga. The park is home to more than a hundred granite villages that have changed little since the founding of Portugal in the twelfth century.
The oldest villages are mainly concentrated in the Serra da Peneda and stay away from modern life.
Oxen are dressed along the streets by women in black and observing pastors.
In remote areas of the park, where some wolves still live, you will also find wild boars, badgers, otters, deer and wild ponies. You can also find snakes and sometimes venomous black snakes.
