The Davis Victorian Farm house is 1892 landmark home. It is located in beautiful Glen Ellyn, known for its quaint down town and Vintage Homes. The Davis House is located on a very quiet cul-de-sac. Set back from Davis Terrace, its front garden adds to the grandeur of this beautiful home. Steps from Babcock Grove Park as well as Lake Ellyn Park.
The home has many original features and has all hardwood floors on the main level. In the family room you will find the fireplace and large Plasma TV with surround sound. The home is nestled amongst large trees and beautiful gardens...truly a wonderful place to call home while visiting Historic Glen Ellyn and neighboring towns as well as Chicago and all that it has to offer.
Please note: Per Glen Ellyn Village ordinace, single family use only. No large gatherings or events.
One of our other passions is music. I was involved with the Guardsmen Drum and Bugle Corps for 26 years, as a marching member for 10 years and 16 as a choreographer and director. My whole family was involved in one way or another. My sister Celeste and Paul were members while sisters Claudia and Regina, followed and helped with management. My father was very active as director and my mother sewed flags and followed us every where.
My son has followed in music and was a member of the Green Thunder Percussion Ensemble and has been taking piano lessons for 15 years.
I am currently president of Ray's Hvac, a heating and air conditioning company that my father Ray started in 1956. My mother and brother Paul work for the company as well.
My son and I have 3 dogs: Minnie Pearl, a Jack Russell/Pomeranian, Magnolia, a Fox Terrier, and Mr. Conrad, a Border Collie. Both Minnie Pearl and Mr. Conrad were rescued from visits to Ireland.
We are involved along with my sister Claudia with Young at Hearts, a senior pet rescue and adoption organization. My son also volunteers at the Animal Care League of Oak Park.
My son and I are parishioners at St. John the Baptist in Winfield, and I am also a member of the Human Rights Campaign.
We starting doing vacation rentals in 2001 with our thatched cottage in County Kerry, Ireland. Cottage Mary Rose is named after my mother. She went with me on my first trip there and has been back many times. My son Sergius has been there many times as well. I even had him help me white wash it.
- William Harty,
The Davis House,
William purchased this house in 1999
Our last old treasure is the Davis House in Glen Ellyn, Il. It is a 1892 historical land mark. I fell in love with Glen Ellyn as a young man working for the family business. I would come down Main Street to make pick ups from some of our vendors.
When I first saw the Davis House, I knew this home was a diamond in the rough. The house built in 1892 originally owned all of the surrounding land...consisting of around 8 acres. Originally built by a German family, it is considered a Gambrel style home. We found German Chicago newspapers in a wall in the basement.
The Davis family from England were the 3rd owners. In 1929 they began to sell off the land and put a short road in behind the existing home. They built 3 Sears bungalows for their children and named their new street Davis Terrace.
The house originally faced Western Ave. so when we moved here there was no real front and the old garage was in what was now the front yard. The original clapboard siding had been covered over with aluminum siding. We had all of this removed and duplicated the original cedar. We added the front porch an turret to give this wonderful landmark home the grand look that it deserved.
Winner of renovation of the year 2002. Granted Landmark the same year!
The house is nestled in a great historical neighborhood off of a quiet street on a cul de sac. Walking distance to parks, town and the train which will get you to the heart of Chicago in under 30 minutes. Woodfield Mall, one of the largest in the states is a 20 minute drive away. The house is embracing and has the spa like feel with the whirlpool tub and rain shower. Beautiful private gardens and gracious indoor and outdoor entertaining areas.
Stayed here for extended weekend for a Horse Show at Lamplight Equestrian. Love the house. This is a classic awesome VRBO experience. Amazing, wonderfully restored house. It makes you feel special just to be in it. Blah, blah blah, everyone loves the kitchen. It IS all of that. We were there late August and the back deck and grill were terrific too. It's just a trace far from Lamplight. But we traveled from Kansas City. Just not a convenient trip back for lunch is all. Recommended and not too far from Chicago. I go to the Chicago Music Exchange whenever I'm in town and it works for that too. We will be back again.
This is a beautiful, spacious house! Spent most of our time in the kitchen area which was a nice space. William was also very responsive and helpful during the whole process. If you are goIng during the winter, the front steps get VERY slippery when it snows.
Our family met up at this home to celebrate and relax and we were all incredibly delighted with this home! Highly recommend!!!
This was a great location for our family to meet, some coming from as near as Winfield and Chicago, others from as far as Florida and Canada. The home is historic, with interesting antique furnishings. The piano was especially enjoyed by our family. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen well-supplied for our purposes. There is a park with playground just a block away. William responded quickly to our needs, i.e. sending a handyman with a refill tank for the grill. The only negative was actually my own fault, in that I didn't consider the fact that William owns dogs and that pets are welcome in the home. Some of the carpets and furniture showed signs of pet hair, and unfortunately, two members of our family suffered mild respiratory discomfort during our stay. Had we stayed longer than 3 nights, this would have been a real problem. Again, I wish to stress that William was friendly and helpful, and it was my own error in not recognizing the fact that pets living in the home would create problems for us. In summary, this is a great place for people without pet allergies, but those with respiratory issues may be more comfortable elsewhere.
This was a great house! The neighborhood was fantastic and it was the perfect location. Close to everything. Downtown Glen Ellyn and Downtown Wheaton are both really fun little towns with lots to do. The kitchen and the master bath was the highlight for me. I will definitely stay here again!
This was the perfect home for our family vacation and William was the perfect host, his arrival instructions were clear and access was easy. He left all of the instructions that we needed for everything, thermostats, appliances, internet, Etc. No worries, No problems & No questions. The neighborhood is gorgeous and safe, perfect for taking walks. Downtown Glen Ellyn is quaint with small shops and delicious restaurants . The gardens at the house are well manicured with little seating area's tucked around every corner, wonderful places to relax with a cup of tea. This home is unique, charming and beautiful with amazing historical details in every room. The house is very clean and well maintained, the beds were all comfortable, the showers had great water pressure and being able to take clean clothes home was a bonus.
Originally from Chicago and relocated to California, staying at the Davis House provided us with the perfect place for visits with our relatives. Very special family memories were made here. William, Thank you again for sharing so many of your personal interests and experiences. Especially your Drum and Bugle Corps memorabilia, articles and books. They gave my father great enjoyment as he read them and reminisced about his own time (during the mid 1950's) in the Corps.
We will highly recommend The Davis House as a destination to all of our friends and family who are visiting the Chicago area.
