About William

One of our other passions is music. I was involved with the Guardsmen Drum and Bugle Corps for 26 years, as a marching member for 10 years and 16 as a choreographer and director. My whole family was involved in one way or another. My sister Celeste and Paul were members while sisters Claudia and Regina, followed and helped with management. My father was very active as director and my mother sewed flags and followed us every where.

My son has followed in music and was a member of the Green Thunder Percussion Ensemble and has been taking piano lessons for 15 years.

I am currently president of Ray's Hvac, a heating and air conditioning company that my father Ray started in 1956. My mother and brother Paul work for the company as well.

My son and I have 3 dogs: Minnie Pearl, a Jack Russell/Pomeranian, Magnolia, a Fox Terrier, and Mr. Conrad, a Border Collie. Both Minnie Pearl and Mr. Conrad were rescued from visits to Ireland.

We are involved along with my sister Claudia with Young at Hearts, a senior pet rescue and adoption organization. My son also volunteers at the Animal Care League of Oak Park.

My son and I are parishioners at St. John the Baptist in Winfield, and I am also a member of the Human Rights Campaign.

We starting doing vacation rentals in 2001 with our thatched cottage in County Kerry, Ireland. Cottage Mary Rose is named after my mother. She went with me on my first trip there and has been back many times. My son Sergius has been there many times as well. I even had him help me white wash it.

Why William chose Illinois

Our last old treasure is the Davis House in Glen Ellyn, Il. It is a 1892 historical land mark. I fell in love with Glen Ellyn as a young man working for the family business. I would come down Main Street to make pick ups from some of our vendors.

When I first saw the Davis House, I knew this home was a diamond in the rough. The house built in 1892 originally owned all of the surrounding land...consisting of around 8 acres. Originally built by a German family, it is considered a Gambrel style home. We found German Chicago newspapers in a wall in the basement.

The Davis family from England were the 3rd owners. In 1929 they began to sell off the land and put a short road in behind the existing home. They built 3 Sears bungalows for their children and named their new street Davis Terrace.

The house originally faced Western Ave. so when we moved here there was no real front and the old garage was in what was now the front yard. The original clapboard siding had been covered over with aluminum siding. We had all of this removed and duplicated the original cedar. We added the front porch an turret to give this wonderful landmark home the grand look that it deserved.

Winner of renovation of the year 2002. Granted Landmark the same year!

What makes this house unique

The house is nestled in a great historical neighborhood off of a quiet street on a cul de sac. Walking distance to parks, town and the train which will get you to the heart of Chicago in under 30 minutes. Woodfield Mall, one of the largest in the states is a 20 minute drive away. The house is embracing and has the spa like feel with the whirlpool tub and rain shower. Beautiful private gardens and gracious indoor and outdoor entertaining areas.

It was a very nice family friendly home.

  • 3 of 5

We had just the right number of people for the available beds. I was disappointed that the tv in the living room was not at all easy to use. I consider myself as technically savvy and after trying to get anything on the tv, I gave up. We really enjoyed the nice big kitchen and the outside table and chairs. The master bath shower was wonderful.

Owner's Response: As always we want our guests at the Davis House to be comfortable and of course satisfied. As we state in our check in letter we are always a phone call away if needed and unfortunately never heard from these guests to walk them through the TV set up. We are looking in to simplifying the TV set up. How ever we are very glad that the kitchen, deck and master suite were a hit. The Davis House as you can see in many reviews has been enjoyed by many..........We look forward to having you as our guests! Yours Sincerely, William Harty, The Davis House,

Unique, comfortable, and convenient

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Davis House for a long weekend in May and had a wonderful experience. (We have a 2 year old and an infant, so staying in a hotel was not a great option for us.). We had zero complaints! Everything we needed and more was provided -- awesome kitchen to prepare our own meals, spacious outdoor area for our toddler to run and play, comfortable beds and linens, washer and dryer, very responsive owner, and convenient location close to downtown Glen Ellyn and a park. The owner, Bill, was available to answer our questions over text and phone. I would love to stay here again.

Fits My Family

  • 5 of 5

The property was the perfect place for four nights with grandparents, parents and small children sharing space both inside and out. It also happened to be about three blocks from the home of our relatives in Glen Ellyn and we could walk between houses to visit. The kitchen was a pleasant surprise with all necessary accouterments including a mix master for my daughter in law who made her famous cakes and cupcakes. There is a park, essential for small children, about one half block away and the neighbors were very friendly. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a family friendly and quiet location.

Great location - fun house - plenty of room for family!

  • 4 of 5

We needed a place for extended family (our grown son and his wife and toddler) to stay with us - there was lots of space, comfortable beds, huge supplied kitchen and all amenities provided - just had to bring ourselves and groceries. One suggestion to add to list of conveniences - hair dryer available. I didn't see that so brought one, would have loved the extra suitcase space.

Beautiful Historic House that felt like home!

  • 5 of 5

This lovely historic home was just what we were looking for as a place for our family to stay while visiting our Son at Wheaton College. The character and charm of the house and furnishings are unmatched. To our surprise, we realized while we were there (William gave us a heads up), Halloween trick or treating would occur. We took our two youngest and visited all the houses within a couple of blocks. We took pictures of many of the homes as the architecture was interesting and the neighborhood is very well maintained. The older kids stayed at the house and gave out candy. It was easy to pretend it was our home for several days. We were able to prepare a few family dinners and enjoyed all the cozy nooks and crannies of this home.

William was helpful with the questions we had before and during our stay. Also, William was kind about the fact we accidentally broke a glass shelf above the master bath sink. The price to replace the shelf was fair and we would have done it ourselves if we could have while we were there. We were able to easily access the house and as frequent VRBO users, we were pleased with our experience at the Davis House. We hope to return again.

Delightful Stay in Welcoming Home

  • 5 of 5

This house was just what we were looking for. Plenty of comfortable sitting rooms with conversation pieces that our guests loved and commented on. Spacious kitchen, showers, and bathtub were a real treat, as was the nicely tuned piano. Our dog Annie loved morning walks downtown to see commuters off on the morning train, visit Lake Ellyn, and meet friendly neighbors. Happily recommended to friends and relatives who visited us there for their other out of town guests.

The large French Farm table seats 6. There is a library directly off of the kitchen. A grand piano graces the music room which has French doors overlooking the large deck. Most of the lighting has been imported from Europe. The turret of the house enables you to see all four directions from the parlor or upstairs Master bedroom sitting room. The master suite also has an ensuite bath with large walk in rain shower and separate Ultra Bath Whirlpool. The south facing windows fill this room with lots of natural light.
