Parks Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 7-8)

Beautiful Rocky Mountain Retreat is located halfway between Flagstaff and Williams, AZ at 7500 ft elevation surrounded by 3 secluded acres of tall Ponderosa Pines. This immaculate cabin is beautifully decorated and fully furnished with all the modern amenities. There are 2 bathrooms, two queen-size bedrooms, and a third room with a bunk bed with a full-size on the bottom and twin on top. There is also a pull-out queen sofa-bed. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the modern appliances you could need and full sets of serving and cooking utensils for entertaining. Free wireless internet is available (hopefully for fun not work :-). There is also a full-size washer and dryer. Hair dryers, curling irons and basic toiletries are included. There are plenty of cozy pillows and blankets . You can curl up in front of the stone fireplace and watch the wildlife outside. Rocky Mountain Retreat has all the comforts of home.

Outside the Cabin: The large wraparound deck is great for outdoor family meals. Then relax with some marshmallows around the campfire or watch the swaying trees or bright stars as you lay in the hammock. Children will love the tree house with slide and hammock, swing sets, horseshoes, or playing basketball in front of the 2-car garage. There is a huge selection of board games, videos and DVDs as well as 3 satellite TVs. Nearby hiking and off-roading trails abound. The Grand Canyon Deer Farm/Petting Zoo and Oak Hill Snowplay area (in winter), and Bearizona are only minutes away. There are several small lakes nearby, as well as the Lava Cave and breath-taking Sycamore Canyon hiking/rock climbing area. The area around our cabin is abundant with elk.

The Area: Rocky Mountain Retreat offers a true sense of being away from it all, yet the town of and Flagstaff with over 200 restaurants, great night life and shopping is only 20 mins away. The historic Route 66 town of Williams is only 10 mins away, where you can catch the Grand Canyon Railway or Polar Express (in winter). The Grand Canyon is a 60 min drive, and fantastic Oak Creek Canyon/ Sedona is about 45 mins. There are two downhill ski resorts 30 and 45 mins away and a cross country ski trail just a couple minutes away. Snowbowl resort is at 11,500 ft elevation and offers 32 trails of great skiing/snowboarding; in the summer you can take the skyride to the top for panoramic views that include the Grand Canyon, and fantastic hiking. Rocky Mountain Retreat has something for everyone. Why stay in a hotel room or rent a house in a subdivision when you can create the special memories of a real get-away vacation in the cool pines at Rocky Mountain Retreat!

About Dawn

My husband and I have always loved the mountains. He grew up in the city (Chicago), but I grew up in rural California camping in Yosemite most weekends with my parents, wonderful memories... We wanted to own a special mountain retreat where we could build our family memories while our kids were still young (the above picture is 13 years after we built our cabin ;). We love our time in the woods and our cabin has become very special to our family. We truly enjoy sharing our cabin with our guests.

Dawn purchased this cabin in 1999

Why Dawn chose Arizona

We searched a lot of mountain areas and decided that the Flagstaff area had the most to offer - beautiful pine tree covered mountains, close access to skiing, the Grand Canyon and Sedona, a great historic town with tons of restaurants and shopping, and temperatures 20-25 degrees cooler than Phoenix. The town of Flagstaff has a wonderful mix of small-town quaintness and great energy from the young university population. There are fantastic family-owned restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques, as well as all the convenient chain stores we're used to. We knew we wanted acreage with lots of trees (we have enough of 'subdivision life' in Phoenix). We found some beautiful land just 20 mins outside Flagstaff and built our cabin. It was a dream come true for us. We hope your family enjoys this peaceful getaway as much as we have!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We did have a great stay at Rocky Mountain Retreat. It was very comfortable and we had everything we needed. We especially loved the outdoor fire pit. We had a campfire in the snow and made snowmen at night. The kids thought that was really fun! If we come back to Arizona we will definitely stay again and we are telling our friends. Happy New year! Wonderful cabin, location and host

  • 5 of 5

This is our 2nd stay, and for sure NOT our last. We came in January to play in the snow (was thrilled to see sleds in the garage and you can literally sled in the backyard + there's a big hill about 5 minutes away) but this time we came to see fall colors. We love the extra touches provided by the owner, including a welcome basket/bottle of wine. Pretty much everything we needed was provided including DVDs, games and extra towels. Tons of outdoor seating, including a relaxing hammock, fire pit and tree house for the kids (we didn't have kids this time but climbed up it just to check it out; very cute). I would recommend this cabin for families or a romantic getaway. Or, an "extended family" retreat like we did. Just be sure to have 4 wheel drive and/or chains if there's snow to get up the driveway. The owner was easy to deal with and everything was as promised.

The cabin is about halfway between Flagstaff and Williams. Last time we visited both, and the Deer Farm which is super close, but this time we just went to Flagg (loved Black Bart's Saloon; thought the Arboretum was OK). Didn't see much fall color so we drove back to the valley down 89 A though Oak Creek Canyon/Sedona and it was spectacular!

Perfect family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We loved Rocky Mountain Retreat! The home is so comfortable and peaceful. Every year, my husband and I spend a week with my sister-in-law, niece and grand-nephew, and this year we decided to go to the Grand Canyon. We also enjoyed the Planes of Fame museum in Valle, we did some strolling and shopping in Williams, and though we'd planned to go to Sedona, my husband was thrilled to learn that Meteor Crater was not too far away, so off we went. Wow, if you have the time, spend an afternoon out there. We did get to pass through Sedona on the way to Phoenix, but I guess we'll have to come back to spend more time there! Our location was ideal for all of our adventures, and the home was perfect to return to after our long days. The couches and beds were so comfortable, and everything we needed was provided.

Our entire family had a fantastic time, and our consensus was that everyone's highlight was the evening we spent sitting around our own campfire, roasting hot dogs, making s'mores with the fixings so graciously provided, listening to the elk bugling to each other, and just being together. We all wished we'd had enough time to just spend a day relaxing at "home".

My advice is this: if this home suits your needs in terms of location, bedrooms and price, look no further. This is the place to stay.

Cabin for active people.

  • 4 of 5

The pull in garage was nice when we had a day of rain. The living/dining area was spacious so we could play games or relax when we were done with the day's activities.

Would not recommend for people that have difficulty with stairs or walking on uneven ground.

For us, it was excellent.

Incredible retreat for our family!

  • 5 of 5

Rocky Mountain Retreat was truly a chance for our entire family to press the reset button! Its quiet location in Parks, AZ was perfect for us. Our 4- and 6-year-old children absolutely loved going directly out the back door into the woods or to the treehouse & swings. They even tried their little hands at horseshoes and chilled in the hammock. Devout fans of Disney/Pixar's Cars, they also were totally overwhelmed with the fact that we were traveling Route 66 and I'm pretty sure they think that the town of Williams is actually Radiator Springs :) Since we arrived home, the part of our trip they keep talking about is...the BUNK BEDS! Really, we couldn't have asked for more from a cabin rental for our little ones! Our ten-month-old was very safe crawling around with no indoor stairs, and it was easy to supervise thanks to the open floor plan including the kitchen, dining area, and living room. We grown-ups loved the quiet wrap-around deck, where we felt like we had the best of both worlds ~ camping solitude & scenery augmented by the amenities of home. The WiFi worked reasonably well, but we relied on the cabin's landline since we couldn't get cell service. We quickly got used to the idea, and ended up very glad for the chance to disconnect with technology in order to reconnect with each other. In the kitchen, we prepped food for five over the course of ten days, and always found that the cabin was stocked with everything we needed. The welcome basket of snacks was a pleasant addition to the clean, cozy environment that greeted us when we arrived. We thought that we'd venture out to the many awesome attractions that are within close range, but we were so happy just hanging at the cabin that we decided to stay there most days. Thanks to the McCraw family for making Rocky Mountain Retreat available!

Wonderful Family Spot in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

Oh my goodness! This home was more amazing than what I could have imagined! Roomy enough for our family of five and outdoor activities galore. Very private, even though neighbors aren't too far away and are very friendly if you do meet them. Dawn was extremely helpful with any questions or requests we had. Just an absolutely gorgeous place to stay. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!
