Hayloft Apartment: old world charm and privacy meets modern convenience

Bedrooms 2
Space 2,000 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

2 bedroom, 2 full bathrooms, LR, Eat-in Kitchen, 1800s.ft. converted hay loft

A charming location at the end of a very long driveway, offering great privacy, safety for children and pets, rich birdlife, and a feeling of being a million miles away. Renters are a short walk to Singing Beach and other beaches. Renters can walk or bike to Manchester town and harbor for sailing, shopping, and groceries. Vacationers can enjoy themselves without ever getting in their car their whole visit. AND yet we are extremely conveniently located. Manchester is only a short 40 minute MBTA ride to downtown Boston. By car, renters are only a few miles to Rte 128, and less than an hour to Logan Airport. We also make a great base from which to explore Massachusetts' North Shore. Cape Ann is full of historic towns, great beaches, wonderful seafood restaurants, art colonies, sporting opportunities.

The "Hayloft" is a charming apartment created in the 1910s out of the old hayloft when the Carriage House was converted for the automobile. It sleeps 4 comfortably with the option of fitting in an extra couple if need be. In addition to the Hayloft Apartment, there is also a separate attached building "the Cottage" that is available to rent separately or together.

The Hayloft Apartment is a 2 Bedroom Short-term Rental sleeping 4 with the capacity to expand to sleep 6 and offering a large eat-in kitchen and living room, almost 2000 s.ft. As a short-term rental 40 minutes from Boston, in the heart of Cape Ann, and near the MBTA, it couldn't be more convenient. But the setting and privacy offer the feeling of getting away from it. A perfect combination.

About Carol Bundy

The Carriage House, which I inherited in 2007, was part of an estate built by my great-grandmother. I spent every summer of my childhood on it as did most of my extended family. We've just finished a renovation which has updated the infrastructure but preserved the original charm. I live nearby in Cambridge where I am a historian of 19th century New England and the Civil War.

Carol Bundy purchased this apartment in 1890

Why Carol Bundy chose Manchester-by-the-Sea

This is a great overflow apartment for those who want to visit family but also want privacy. It's also a great get-away spot for a couple.

What makes this apartment unique

In addition to all the obvious benefits of Manchester, you get privileges to our private beach.

I have stayed in Carol's cottage a number of times over a number of years. In all my years there (7?), in all seasons, all things I need--a warm pellet stove, cozy, clean linens, cookery, utensils, beautiful paintings, huge windows--and then, the light... the ocean through the trees, the crashing of waves on rocks, the wind through the trees, a walk to the beach and town, and an easy commute via train into the city, or 10 minutes into Gloucester, the Rocky Neck Art Colony, Rockport and all the N. Shore beaches. A fabulous, wonderful place to curl up, or into, or around, and then, expand.

Amazing and cozy place... welcoming, and tastefully appointed. All amenities you'd need for a great week or month. Beach and village (like a NE movie set), just 5 and 10 minute walk. Grounds are gorgeous. Private cove a walk along wooded trail, and neighborhood beautiful. Very safe. Very convenient (train to Boston in village and a 3 min. car ride or 10 min. walk). Gloucester/Essex etc. all nearby w/ great restaurants, tourist activities... And SINGING BEACH 5 min walk and gorgeous. Just a perfect place to stay!!!!!!

An extremely private setting with wonderful wildlife we are only 5 minutes on foot from Singing Beach, and the village of Manchester-- great restaurants, shops, and the 40 minute MBTA ride to Boston. Cape Ann is full of great beaches, fun sports and cultural adventures celebrating early American history. Modern convenience with old world charm.
