This place had an awesome view, and the pool area was really nice and private (also with an awesome view). The owners gave us a ride to and from because it's a pretty tough hill to go up and down (which was a nice feature)
Marigot Bay was one of our favorite places on the whole island if we come back we will probably spend the majority of our time in this village. I highly recommend chartering one of the boats it's worth it.
Had a wonderful stay in Marigot Bay
We spent one night in the lower 2BR unit here, somewhat by accident - we had arranged to stay at one of Frank's other places, in town (prop 251845), to avoid having to rent a car again, and it wasn't available the first day. We had arranged a day on the boat with Frank's company (Bateau Mygo) - which was a lot of fun for a reasonable price, by the way - and Frank had offered us to spend the night on the boat. Once we were in St. Lucia, he quite graciously offered us to spend the night here instead of on the boat.
We had seen the listing, and this place definitely exceeded what we expected - it's very spacious, with beautiful views overlooking the bay, a nice patio to eat at, a gorgeous pool which we had to ourselves, very nice kitchen, lots of details (like an iPod docking little stereo, flat screen TV, etc.). We really enjoyed it, and it's hard to decide which of the properties we would choose first next time. Driving in St. Lucia is pretty nuts, and I was quite ready to give back the car keys and relax for a while without driving once we got to Marigot Bay, so the other property was perfect for us. If we were in car/exploring mode, it would be hard not to choose this place. By the way, while the drive up is pretty steep, it is pretty typical by St Lucia standards; we had plenty of steeper and much rougher drives elsewhere on the island. Anywhere in St Lucia, I think a small 4WD (and nerves of steel and a tall drink at the end of the day) is the way to go.
Frank was very nice to deal with and is clearly very busy. In our case, we found him to be very hospitable. He personally shuttled us between the boat and the 2 apartments; he arranged transport to the airport for us; we saw him at the restaurant several times; and he and his charming wife even drove us down from this place to have dinner and back home, since we didn't have a car. He's an interesting to guy to chat with, so strike up a conversation if you see him around and you both have a little time.
Regarding the restaurant, I don't think it's overpriced - it is normal Marigot Bay pricing on an island where food is generally not cheap. Doolittles is the same price level, I would say (I preferred Chateau Mygo, but both are good). Neither are 5 star restaurants, but this restaurant exceeded my expectations - it is nicer food, certainly, than your basic by-the-sea tourist-area restaurant normally is. We had several meals here.
Hope to make it back!
Great Value for Fabulous View
Chateau Mygo is a great value with a million dollar view. We stayed in the lower 2BR unit (by accident--more on that later). The view is spectacular and the pool is the envy of many local hotels. The units are fairly clean, the furniture is a little worn (couch needs a good cleaning), but overall a good value for the money. Housekeeping is limited, but they did a very good job and were accommodating. As most indicate, the drive to the villa is pretty vertical. It rained a few times during our stay and we were grateful for 4WD. A vehicle is a must--the walk down is steep and the walk up would be hard-core. Additionally, there are other parts of the island well worth driving to.
We made our reservations with Frank by phone and followed up by e-mail. Good thing, as he promised us the "Sunset Villa" and when we arrived he ended up putting us in the 2BR unit--and wanted to charge us the 2BR rate. Thankfully we had an e-mail indicating he promised the Sunset, so he charged us the lower rate even though we had to go into the 2BR unit (another couple who showed up later in the week were also promised the Sunset unit by Frank, but ended up in the Sunrise). The lower unit has a smaller balcony and no hammock (dang). Frank is a nice, but obviously very busy guy. Like some others, we were promised a local cell phone that never appeared, and other than when he took our money, we never saw him, even at the restaurant. We ate at the restaurant three times--good, but not spectacular food and it is a bit overpriced (but we reckon you're paying for the view). For a seafood restaurant, there were not many seafood choices on the menu the times we ate there. Additionally, the staffers could sure use some lessons on how to smile and make patrons feel welcomed.
All-in-all, we had a nice stay, thoroughly enjoyed our time in St Lucia, and would very likely stay at Chateau Mygo again when we return.
The Perfect Holiday!
Two couples rented the two bedroom apartment at Chateau Mygo Villa in Marigot Bay from February 18 - March 1, 2010. From the moment we arrived, the owner greeted us and transported us and our luggage to the villa. The owner, Frank was most hospitable making himself available daily if needed and accessible by telephone to all questions or concerns that we had regarding our accommodation and other sites in St. Lucia. Frank provided exceptional customer service and was a tremendous host to our party of four.
The listing description and the actual property, location and amenities exceeded our expectations. The property was superbly cleaned every third day by Lavina who was friendly and most accommodating. The pool overlooking Marigot Bay was well maintained and provided an outstanding view of the bay and a welcome relief from the hot sun.
A rental car was recommended, however, we chose to traverse up and down the steep hill to and from the restaurants, daily trips for delicious cafe lattes and baquets at Rowley's, the marina market, and sites around Marigot Bay. Strenous, but great exercise. We enjoyed taking the local bus transportation to and from various towns and the city of Castries.
We prepared and enjoyed many of our evening meals with our neighbours who also rented single apartments in this villa. We could not have asked for nicer people to share good food, lots of laughter, and the stunning views of the bay.
We arranged a full day of sailing and snorkelling with Bateau Mygo, occasional meals at the Chateau Mygo restaurant, and a lovely Saturday dinner at the Rainforest Restaurant with great music and dancing on the otherside of the bay.
One minor disappointment was the need to travel down the hill to the marina or the Chateau Mygo restaurant to access wi-fi internet on our lap tops as it was not available at the villa.
All in all, we had an amazing vacation. Thank you to Frank and his staff and family for making our first but not our last visit to St. Lucia most enjoyable.
