Restore yourself at La Luna Vista, your luxury Bali home offering complete privacy and a 360 degree view of a lush, eco protected valley from every room in this modern custom built home. It's a modern Shangri La, yet a 2 minute drive into one of Costa Rica's loveliest towns, with it's 5 markets, restaurants, English speaking emergency room, orchid trees and church overlooking the central square and, according to Natl Geographic, 'the best weather in the world'. Centrally located, La Luna Vista is a 'home base' for your entire Costa Rican vacation and easy drives to volcanoes, cloud forests, beaches, river rafting, fishing, surfing, coffee farms, ziplining, monkeys and bird watching. For an active or relaxing vacation
It's 'pura vida' as you sit by the pool overlooking the neighboring farm while the butterflies dance around you. Open the pocket doors entirely to the world outside while cooking in the in the completely modern gourmet kitchen or BBQ on the deck. House is on one level with modern convenience.
The Best of All Possible Worlds: Our brand new home La Luna Vista really has all the modern amenities but is surrounded by nature. The Costa Rican government has chosen to preserve our gorgeous valley because of it's great natural beauty. You see only trees and mountains from the terrace that surrounds the house no matter where you look. At night, nature provides a light show in the clear skies, and sometimes you can watch lightening dance over the mountains beyond the valley. There is complete privacy yet on the other hand there are neighbors close by. Our little town of Atenas has wonderful restaurants, many supermarkets with Chilean and Argentinean wines, even pizza delivery and modern American kitchen necessities. A farmers market where all the surrounding farmers bring delicious mangoes, veggies, colorful fruits a local specialties happens every Friday in the park.
Activities? Or not!: You can relax poolside, sip smoothies or a glass of wine and completely remove yourself from the stress of contemporary life. But if you want to check your emails, we have wi-fi, and your Blackberry /iphoneworks in Costa Rica.
If you are looking for a more active time away from home, butterfly farms, volcanoes rain forests, river rafting, horseback riding, are all an easy drive.
If you want to hang ten or simply stroll on the pristine Costa Rica Beaches or swim in the warm Pacific water of famous surfing beaches like Jaco and Playa Hermosa which are only 45 minutes away.
Pura Vida!: It's no accident that Costa Ricans' motto is 'Pura Vida.' They are lovely, well educated, warm, and welcoming people.
"I have the difficult task of explaining what it feels to live on a cloud, literally, because the clouds swiftly surround this piece of land from time to time for just a few moments and you exist for a small time with the sky. The rolling hills that extend into the horizon from the property's backyard spoil your appetite to taste other adventures Costa Rica has to offer...why visit a cloud forest when you live in one? And, the beauty of this home absolutely ruins your patience to stay in any other vacation home less exceptional than this house. This house sits furthest out on the best slice of land in the community so no other rooftop adulterates the view of the magnificent Atenas mountains. You feel like you are the only person in the world with the safe satisfaction of a small, friendly community of home-owners right behind you. The decor of the house is minimal and craftful and every turn offers another opportunity to enjoy the goodness of life. And that's all before leaving the house!
The drive from Atenas to San Jose offers panoramic views of Costa Rica Pura Vida and you find yourself downtown in less than an hour. The drive to the Pacific side (Jaco/Manuel Antonio) provides equally impressive views ending in beautiful beaches and national parks less than 90 minutes away. Local fruit and vegetable stands abound in either direction, so there is always a chance to buy the best avocados on your way to and from home. The location of this house gives you the best chance to experience Costa Rica's coasts, volcanos, and local life and still be home to grill yourself a nice steak and take in the gorgeous city lights from a far, far distance. The stars and moon at night, are of course unparallel.
I should stop here for fear of seeming unauthentic, but it's all true. Come experience it for yourself. You'll leave a different person."
Thanks so much for opening up this sweet serenity to my family Diana, and best of luck with future renters.
The property is in a secure electric gated community and all other homes are just as large as this one. the views from the property are breath taking and hours can be spent on the balcony. The home is fabulous with quality furnishings throughout. The local agent (Leticia) is very welcoming and friendly and only a phone call away if needed for anything. The caretaker is also located on the property grounds - but you don't see him unless needed - he respects your privacy. He has a very friendly dog and an adorable disabled cat called Romeo - both come to meet and great you each morning.
The two bedrooms are external to the main living area and you do need to go outside to enter them. The master bedroom has a covered porch way from the front door, and the entrance to the second much smaller bedroom is next to the pool - so completely opposite sides of the house.
There is no television or safe at the property, but good Wifi connection.
The sliding doors on the main living area and also the two bedrooms do not have locking facilities - they just slide back and forth, which we were alarmed at for our first night sleeping there. This is only because we lock our property up each evening - but maybe pura vida life is different!!
We chilled out from the next morning and no locks was no longer an issue. It's beautiful and would recommended it.

This house exceeded our expectations. Reading the listing and viewing the pictures on VRBO made the property sound like it was impossibly beautiful. Well it was that and more. It sits looking out on this beautiful agricultural valley. We sat every day and watched the weather roll in. We loved it. What we enjoyed most of all was taking walks on the road right outside the gated community. We felt like we were seeing a slice of Costa Rica we would have never seen up close. People biking up the steep hills. People out walking and running. We saw a rural school, right next to a small farm! People were all incredibly friendly and helpful. After a walk it was perfect to come back and jump in the pool. I wish I could do that right now! Finally the property manager, Leticia, was always helpful for any questions or things we needed. Very well run property!!!
Our experience at La Luna Vista exceeded our already high expectations. The home is beautifully set on a hillside with a 240 degree view of orchards, fields, and mountains. (It backs on a steep incline that protects it and its occupants from neighborly eyes). The sense of peace and privacy is undisturbed. The house is well maintained and managed with attention paid to guests' needs. The owner, manager, and caretaker were pleasures to work with. My wife and I enjoyed having the sun streaming in in the morning accompanied by the songs of the many birds who feed in the area. (Guests who prefer to sleep in may want to come prepared with eyeshades). In the afternoons after full days of excursions, we enjoyed relaxing in the black-bottom pool; the purchase of an inexpensive blow-up tube in town just added to the fun. Contrary to the experience of some reviewers, we did not find the water too cold once the sun had been up for a few hours and did not need to ask for the optional supplementary heating. For those visitors who (like us) enjoy driving, La Luna Vista proved to be an excellent place to have a car. It is not difficult to find and the road leading to it is in good condition. We were only a 35 minute drive from either San Jose and Sarchi, 75 minutes from Jaco Beach, and under 90 minutes from Vulcan Paos and La Paz waterfall gardens. Our excurisions were fun, the vistas magnificent, and the driving surprisingly easy. (Just be sure to have GPS). We would certainly recommend the property to friends and relatives and look forward to enjoying it again the next time we visit that part of the country.
My husband and I spent our anniversary, kid less and without distractions in this absolutely beautiful paradise secluded from everyone. It was FABULOUS! We couldn't have picked a better spot and are already planning another trip.
Diana, I can't thank you enough for opening your home to us nomad vacationers. No hotel could compare to your person jewel. Big thanks to the best support team we've dealt with thus far, Leticia and Jaime were so helpful.
Thank you again, for the best anniversary trip we could have had!
p.s. I thought we had submitted a review already, but I couldn't find it. So sorry for the delay or if this is a duplicate review.
Wow! What a home--the views of the valley and hills are amazing, day or night. Most nights we'd sit on the expansive patio enjoying a drink and nature's peaceful sounds. Open up all the pocket doors and you feel like you're living in a luxurious tree house, no one around to disturb your day. The home is beautifully decorated and is located away from other homes in the area--you can't see or hear anyone else.
This home was easy to book, the owner is responsive and Leticia the house manager is lovely and helpful. The home is an easy drive from the San Jose airport and a great home base for exploring Costa Rica. From the home we drove to the Poas Volcano, Sarchi (quaint artisan town), Jaco and Puntaranus (beach towns), Zoo Ave and so much move. The pool is great and you can hike from the house to coffee and mango farms.
The climate truly is perfect in Atenas, beautiful in the day (even in the green season, just an occasional afternoon rain) and perfect at night (no air conditioning needed!).
We were visited by a wonderfully sweet cat, with a physical disability that will win your heart over in a minute. She stays outside and is very courteous.
We would love to come back and likely will--a perfect vacation!
